Mihawk not using named attacks means nothing when he launched an attack at Whitebeard, who is a Yonko, and that wasn't a named attack.
Unless you think Mihawk is ao strong that he doesn't need a named attack to hurt a Yonko, him having named attacks doesn't make sense.
Also, that attack didn't even damage Jozu, who is a Yonko Commander, and Kidd is shown to be high Yonko Commander level. So if Shanks can 1 shot Yc+ Kidd and Yc2 Killer but Mihawk can't even damage a YC with an attack meant to hit a Yonko, then there is a decent gap in their power.

@@kdawgtb lol, Mihawk himself states he was merely testing the waters to gauge the gap between them. The attack was so incredibly telegraphed even cannon fodder were able to dodge.
"hE DIdNt hUrt DIaMonD JozU.." no duh. The guy can turn to Diamonds literally one of the hardest materials known to man and Mihawk's attack was little more than a casual slash for him. so even if Mihawk can cut Diamds, not saying he can calm down buttercup, that attack wasn't meant to.l

Concerning Mihawk's Toilet, I MIGHT actually have a explanation for that! I was reading through the manga Dungeon Toilet and they mentioned that a old Japanese general had a special toilet made specifically so that he could swing a sword around if any enemies attacked him while he was using it. So, since Mihawk's sword is so HUGE...the room he needs to swing a sword around would ALSO have to be huge. So, that's why we have this huge room with a toilet in the middle of it, its so Mihawk can use his sword while he's using it...maybe.
It’s in Dungeon Toilet volume 1 page 72 in the text-based “Toilet Time: Fourth” segment. “…Takeda Shingen…when he made his war plans, he’d lock himself away in the bathroom. (…) It’s said the bathroom was very large, around the size of a average bedroom. (…) The idea was that if someone infiltrated Shingen’s toilet, he’d still be able to swing a katana.” It’s actually a surprisingly educational, if hyperfocused, manga, really.

I've always had a weird idea/theory about Mihawk's eyes, which was also part of a larger Haki theory
Basically my Haki theory is that there's a third level of Haki, which is the final stage after Advanced Haki. I'm currently calling "Mastered Haki" / "Perfected Haki". The idea/theory is that Mihawk (And also Imu) have ringed eyes as a result of having Mastered/Perfected Observation Haki.
My current idea of what that does is either:
    A. It adds a boost to the foresight ability by accelerating your senses so that everything around you appears to move slower as you look into the future, allowing you to basically see the vision as a projection in front of you rather than just an image in your mind (similar to that weird thing King Crimson does in Jojo, but without erasing time)
    B. It allows you to quickly scan the surrounding area and people, which can identify people/objects around you find/identify weak points and maybe even read minds
Thats all the important stuff related to Mihawk in the theory. It also suggests that that theorized fourth elemental Haki is Mastered/Perfected Armament Haki, basically giving the Ryuo emitting from your body a proper shape in the form of natural elements, which would be predetermined based on the will of the person. Example: It takes the form of fire for people with an intense will like Kinemon or Luffy)

Rememeber when Perona was leaving Mihawk and he said it was good she was leaving because he was able to see what was going down at the Reverie in regards to the abolishment of the Warlords? That's some serious observation Haki if that's what that was.

OK divine departure is an armament + ACOC haki mix into his sword attack RIGHT? how did zoro fight against king? a mix of armament haki + ACOC into his swords... same way he gave a scar to kaido.... the student that mihawk taught about haki fights exactly like shanks who is a CONFIRMED swordsman (sbs101, red databook, zoro novel, ch1058 etc)
law is classified and confirmed to be a swordsman (usopp gallery, sbs 101) and fujitora too so if these 2 who have such a wide variety apart from sword based attacks and ablities are classified as swordsmen then WHAT CAN SHANKS POSSIBLY DO? rayleigh who used kicks is also a confirmed swordsman (sbs101)
the set of abilities does not matter as long as you re classified AND CONFIRMED BY THE AUTHOR TO BE A SWORDSMAN then theres no pure and this and that....
oda never categorized the types of swordsmen he only announces if they are or not and about shanks he confirmed him to be a swordsman multiple times already, he is categorized as SWORDSMAN and he never categorized swordsmen as pure, or semi, or pseduo and this and that etc.... this is HIS STORY dont play with it, this pure and pseudo blah blah is a FAN MADE HEADCANON started by 1 of the biggest shankstards Kingoflightning who i respect but the lad cant powerscale even if his life depended on it
OHH and lastly haki is an upgrade of its user's already existant fighting style not a style apart from it if u can comprehend what im saying u can see the truth here which is an obvious one UNLESS u think shanks has gryphon as a decoy and he defeated kidd with a secret fart technique
what shankstards mostly say is "i think" or "i feel like" or "maybe" or "probably" or "if" which is ALL a personal interpretation and quite forced towards your personal desires NEGLECTING AND DENYING the canonical information that has already been presented by the literal creator of one piece multiple and multiple and multiple times ALL for the sake of your fragile emotions just to delay the inevitable outcome
FUN FACT: i also was a firm believer that shanks not only is stronger than mihawk but also the top 1 and i admit i feel ashamed about it but now im cured and free proving that i can be 100% unbiased taughting myself this way bcz powerscaling doesnt care about our emotions, its the judge and the executioner period...

When Shanks lost his arm and showed up for a duel with Mihawk Mihawk won the duel decisively, cementing his status but to Mihawk it was utterly hollow. Since then Mihawk has mostly capped and hasn’t had anyone to train with as he doesn’t want to train with Shanks anymore as he only fights for the blade, while Shanks continues to train and fight to improve himself for the sake of the people he loves, and is thus more powerful now than Mihawk but doesn’t want the status of greatest swordsman so he won’t duel Mihawk anymore.

They used to fight all the time back when Shanks had both arms. Shanks was not yet an Emperor at the start of the show and him losing an arm stripped Mihawk's will to fight him. It's entirely possible that Mihawk and Shanks were equals at the start of the series but growth rates among characters in One Piece are often pretty sporadic. Mihawk seems somewhat detached now that his primary dueling partner is "no longer fit" while Shanks has only seemed to grow increasingly powerful. Could it be the case that they were equals at the start of the show, Shanks losing an arm temporarily put him behind Mihawk but Shanks later passed him in strength since Mihawk hasn't had the motivation to keep pushing himself because he's already the world's greatest swordsman?

@@phantomgrent5750 It's absolutely head canon but I think could be viable at the same time. What have we seen or heard of Mihawk doing in the story? Seems he largely spends his time on his secluded island up until his warlord title was stripped and he joined Cross Guild. The other things he's done we've seen. We probably haven't seen him go all out yet but we won't know until his duel with Zoro comes.
Meanwhile, Shanks was not a yonko at the start of One Piece. He was likely a notorious pirate by this point, especially considering his duels against Mihawk, but since he became a yonko four years after leaving East Blue it stands to reason that he only continued to get stronger. Since he reached a new height of infamy even after losing his arm his strength could potentially correlate to that.
It feels as though one's ambition is unlike the other. We've yet to see Mihawk really push himself. That's probably to show the gap between him and everyone else but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that once he acquired his title he didn't have the same level of ambition to gain strength like he once had. It's almost like he's been waiting for someone to come and take the title from him aka Zoro.

@@defiantlydefiant its valid reasoning but once again quite unquantifiable.
We don't know how much weaker Shanks got right as he lost his arm. We do know that current shanks is at least equal to before he lost his arm because its stated he hasn't lost power, but its headcanon to assume he's stronger than with his duels. I could just as easily argue that Shanks all the strength he accumulated during his time as a yonko was just closing the gap to the power he had with both hands.
(I personally believe Shanks and Mihawk are stronger than when they had their duals but of course I can't prove it)
As for Mihawk, we know he has no competition and he is less active than others since shanks lost his arm, but there is nothing that implies he doesn't train or get stronger. He's said to Zoro that he will stand at the top until Zoro can fight him again, I highly doubt Mihawk would sit around until someone beats him.
(Although it is equally as head canon to assume he did get stronger than he didn't)
This is why people don't bring this up during Mihawk vs. Shanks debates because it is filled with so much personal interpretation for knowledge that we just don't have

While Mihawk is probably the better sword-fighter because of his title, here’s how I’d guess a serious fight would go.
    Mihawk: *draws Yoru*
    Shanks: *draws Gryphon*
    Mihawk and Shanks: *attack*
Mihawk: *knocks Gryphon from Shanks hand*
    Shanks: *punches Mihawk’s head off*

I think what this comes down to is when Zoro fights Mihawk. Shanks isn't Luffy's final opponent, barring some wild shifting of how the story has played out so far, but Mihawk would seemingly be Zoro's. So if Zoro is observable stronger than Shanks, and his fight with Mihawk is close/difficult, it would make me think Mihawk was stronger.

I feel like Mihawk wins, why? Because they both use the same fighting style, swords. And in this area Mihawk is the best in the world having way more skill, meanwhile Shanks uses his sword as a way to fight as he isnt a brawler, so he is probably more of a haki master, (wich Mihawk will also be) meaning that in a fight, Mihawk, having a huge skill advantage, at least for me, he wins.

I think I have an idea about the identity of the D clan, in chapter 1066 shaka told robin that the empty century is the history of a war that was between 20 kingdoms and a specific kingdom which had an advanced civilization and after the 20 kingdoms victory they have formed an organization called the world government and then deleted everything that has something to do with that advanced kingdom from history, and shaka said that he thinks the ohara incident happened because they found out about that kingdom’s existence, and then in chapter 1085 imu said that D was the name of our enemies, what if the people who used to live in that advanced kingdom are the D clan? I think they were so powerful and dangerous and they were a serious menace since 20 kingdoms had to cooperate with each other just to face that specific kingdom I mean wow!

It could be that shanks and mihawk competed at swordsmanship in a way similar to garp and his battleship bags. Maybe their rule was that they were not allowed to use haki during the fight, and therefore mihawk beat shanks based purely on his skill as a swordsman, not his general strength as a fighter. Which would also explain why mihawk was curious about attacking whitebeard in the first place, as he's not used to fighting top tier opponents with devil fruits on top of haki. I think we need to ask oda if I'm right or not to get the real answer

    1) I think giving Mehawk the bointy point was unfair. Even if Shanks is an Emperor, its not like he alone holds the bounty for everyone! Every individual holds a bounty of his own and hence it seems WG keeps things simple by assigning bounties individually.
    2) If you make the same two polls for Shanks and WB or Shanks and Roger, you would see that results of the two polls would be quite opposite!

Mihawk lays out what a swordsman is in his fight with zoro chapter 51 I think? It requires that you never accept defeat even in the face of death. Shank giving up his arm and hat for Luffy is him giving up on his dream disqualifying him from Mihawks swordsman criteria.

Mihawk once said to zoro that a skilled swordsman can gauge the level of another before unsheating their sword. If he saw shanks during the war, and is still looking for an opponent stronger than shanks (according to mihawk's vivre card) he is stronger than shanks

I think the most important thing to consider is this: although it isn't fully elaborated upon in detail, all throughout One Piece it's been constantly implied that being a swordsman is its own unique talent and that there's a rich mythos of swordsmanship we only see glimpses of because the story is about pirates, not swordsman.
Mihawk holds a distinction as the world's greatest swordsman. Mihawk's blade Yoru holds notoriety as the legendary black blade. "Black blades" are themselves an entire phenomenon where swords used in battle continuously will eventually become black as if they are always coated in haki. There's a special name for named weapons of note. There are grades of swords/weapons, supreme, great, skillful, and grade. These grades are so exclusive we know the names of the weapons in these grades and how many weapons exactly are in each grade. Like that Yoru is one of the 12 supreme grade swords. Swordsmen's styles are recognized by other swordsmen, on more than one occassion another character has described Zoro as "a user of *the* three sword style" rather than "a man who fights with three swords" for instance. Even when Zoro doesn't fight with his swords, it's described as "no sword style" in the same manner as his three sword style. Characters who do fight with swords but also have additional powers to back them up like Brook or King aren't called swordsmen.
Shanks is a yonko who has no special abilities aside from haki (something any person can use provided they're trained in it) and swordsmanship. However he is never described with any of the mystique previously mentioned. He's rarely ever referred to as a swordsman. His sword and the fact it's named, Gryphon, is an afterthought and of little significance to other characters including other sword wielders. It's weird to say but Shanks is *not* a swordsman despite the fact he exclusively fights with a sword and no other power. There's a certain level of dedication and reverence for the way of the blade other swordsmen characters have he doesn't have or at least we haven't seen from him. Perhaps because he is first and foremost a pirate. In much the same way that Mihawk is rarely if ever actually described as a pirate, exclusively being a true swordsman. When Mihawk and Shanks clash it doesn't ever appear that the title of world's strongest swordsman is on the line because Shanks isn't one and so can't hold the title.
All of this is to say that, Mihawk being the world's strongest swordsman doesn't necessarily make him stronger than Shanks even in a swordfight. Shanks could be well and above Mihawk perhaps by an appreciable amount even, but Mihawk could still be the strongest swordsman despite that because in One Piece "swordsman" is a special class of individual Shanks just isn't part of.

  • @Starlesslight
    @Starlesslight Год назад

You brought up some questions I have myself. How would Mihawk fare against the world's strongest axe user? Is a sword by default the ultimate weapon in the One Piece world? Being strong with a certain weapon doesn't necessarily make you the greatest or most powerful fighter in the world. It makes you the best at fighting with that weapon. I have to assume that means he knows all the sword styles as well, because weapon and hand to hand combat have various forms of fighting styles that go along with them. Also, being the greatest with a weapon doesn't mean a god can't just stomp you out of existence and laugh at you while you wave your sword around crying, "But I'm the greatest such and such weapon user!" Power level difference definitely matters.

The main thing is just that Mihawk was used early on, meaning he matched up against characters that are mostly relatively fodder by now. He then hasn't shown anything much in recent times. Which means he kinda feels like a chump for not just rolling all the fodder from back then, and then hasn't shown anything concrete to show he can still step to the world cap. Meanwhile Shanks didn't do shit for most of the story, but at least all the top tiers shat their pants at his presence. Then he did show he could easily slap an enemy even Big Mom had trouble putting down. So...Mihawk needs to actually do stuff soon.

Mihawks bounty might be that high since he used to be the a marine hunter before his bounty was frozen and now he's the strongest person associated with cross guild who the marines do find to be a sizable threat.
