Bobs casting workshop ~-~~-~~~-~~-~ Please watch the latest from Life Inc "Appleseed and magic castles in the sea My Homeless Journey #64" • Appleseed and magic ca... ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
I have found the clay and im wanting to make a wax seal ring, how would you recommend going about this? Should I try and cast the carving in it or should I cast the ring first and carve the pattern into it? also this was the most helpful video ive found thank you for it :)
Ah, I was watching without sound, for some reason I just assumed it was aluminum sorry 'bout that. Even still, I'm curious as to what the purpose of the flux would be.
Nothing to be sorry about; As to what the purpose of the flux would be, I'm not sure...I guess it may be to prevent the metal from sticking to the crucible keeping impurities away in the process... again, I'm just guessing, hope he can answer that ;)
the delft clay flasks are not the best they are too difficult to part, better off using a more professional style flask with alignment keys on the outside
Haha 6 vents is the standard to have when molding? Wow Didn't know that. Everyone else I've seen has been doing only 2. Or technically 1. 1. The pouring site 2. A vent.
Can you use a normal Aluminium like the one you buy in grocery stores? And did you use a Hair Dryer or something else? And can you use and metal cast to melt the Aluminium I want to try this someday but I want try it he right way otherwise I wasted a lot of time. Have a nice day!
+NerdCore GreekFan A hair dryer is definitely not hot enough; he was using a propane torch and melting Reclaimed Pewter..(as he noted himself earlier), not aluminum..BTW you can't use aluminum foils nor recycled aluminum cans as they aren't casting well...aluminum pans. trays etc is the way to go.
I thought at the beginning you were cutting up red rock opium lol.
He uses that credit card like he's been to Morocco.
First minute only and i feel like watching a cocaine addict :D
+Okto Putsch me too
We use the same product and love it, but we use a mullamatic/grinder to do the cutting of the sand so much more practical and faster.
eelguy flux us used to get rid of oxidants. you need to also use flux in your crucible to "season" it
Thank you very much
Google search "cooksons delft clay casting rings" there you should find some packs including rungs and clay
Hope this helps
liked for the dog

Heat your metal til it "rotates" in the crucible. Also use flux
Julie Graham Would you put flux into the molten aluminum? Is it to help it pour better?
+eelguy95 He was just melting Reclaimed Pewter..(as he noted himself earlier), not aluminum.

1. The pouring site
2. A vent.
First time seen ayone use those vent lines or that many vents. Very informative, great video.
What the hell? Are you using a hot air blow gun or a flame torch gun?
Also is that baby powder? Or what did you call it? Can I just use baby powder for that.
Onepower he called it talcan powder...and it is baby powder but some prefer the actual name so yes you can use baby powder
That's not talc he is using between the two halves by the sound of it.
Also, what type of metal did you use?
do you have metal fume fever? or thats just flu
The bottom half looks like a Hershies Kiss
Interesting to read comments for this video. lol
