A cuban here. The training in the cuban army for conscripts is very poor. I only went once to a shooting field, to fire less than one mag. Cubans go to Russia for 2 main reasons: its visa free and the economic situation in Cuba is very bad. Annother thing is the admiration for Russia and many cubans go because they dont know what is going on in Ukraine.
I have been to your country and noticed the poverty, but the people were truly lovely alone with the landscape and the cities. I hope not too many are fooled by ru.
What would you say, are Cubans more poor than rural Russians?

Why is it that CNN, Fox News, BBC and other media outlets are allowed by youtube to post war footage, show bodies, etc. without being "de-monetized". But if a private channel like Combat Veteran or others do it, they come down hard. The enforcement of "terms of service" seems a total disaster. This is not a company I'd ever invest in.

Do you know if those media outlets are monetized? It doesn't really matter to those channels, so you won't hear them asking for patreon etc. For them youtube is basicaly cheap publicity. They already have the footage from the broadcast, so all they need is a few ppl to cut it into smaller sizes and post it, if that isn't already automated. That being said, everyone should be treated the same.
@capusvacans Those channels are conglomerate media networks that existed for decades and have hired "credentialed" employees or those that had academic experience. However, recent years have shown that small channels can compete and deliver objective news or at least less edited. Bit for now what still dominates, and will continue to dominate for foreseeable future, is the advertising revenue behind those big networks and their connections to politics and such. At least that's my take.
These channels essentially being their own ads via network. So it's not monetized by RUclips. It's somewhat self monetized.

I work with Cubans and the lack of food situation is real. My coworker said that Cuban authorities caught a gang who was selling dog and cat meat to people that make street food.

I'm an American who was able to take advantage of a thaw in relations to travel to Cuba about 5 years ago. It was one of the best trips I've ever gone on. It was COMPLETELY different than I expected. The people are wonderful, Havana is a beautiful Spanish colonial town, the countryside is lovely, great food, incredible old cars (like one giant cruising rally), and I was really impressed by the lack of crime. I'm definitely a free market capitalist, but feel if we continue more outreach the government would possibly moderate their stances and the place could begin to attain its potential. On the other hand, certain politicians here benefit by maintaining this "enemy". BTW, they make the best mojitos there are! The secret - they use Yerba buena instead of mint 👍
I loved it there too, but I was fully aware the whole time I was there of the abject poverty, and that I was not allowed to go everywhere. You have to go on a special type of trip. It is a lovely country and Cuba has fantastic doctors. It’s not all bad, but.. worldwide leader in executions and child prostitution for a long time, among other things. Nowhere is perfect, but it is important we see things as they are, which is hard to do when on a trip that makes sure you see only the best parts of a place and don’t notice the others. I’d go back for sure though. One of the best trips of my life.
What was your favourite city? Mine was Cienfuegos. Havana was great, but the one night I walked around alone the entire city was dark! Santiago was neat too. I was happy when Obama started normalising relations and sad Trump reversed it. What is the status now? I understand why it happened initially… the whole Cuban missile crisis and all.

Fragging is a term originally coined during the Vietnam War. It's a way disposing of your superior officer, traditionally with a fragmentation grenade. Very few soldiers were actually convicted of the crime, even though it was more common than the US military like to admit.
Usually done as a last resort when a new officer came into country knowing nothing and hungry for contact, and got people killed by sending them out needlessly just to get contact, according to the vets in my family.
No dude we are having a conversation about what happened in the 1960s in the war in Vietnam. This guy might be taking a dig at the U.S., who knows, but it is something that happened, though definitely not an everyday occurrence and not ok.

corruption is rampant in the russian army and government. the problem is they recruited from the ghettos in cuba where most of those men are in gangs. you steal from a street gang you get street justice.
Cuba is in a really bad way at the moment. They used to get all their oil free from Venezuela along with a lot of dollars to prop up the regime. As Venezuela has gone broke, they are dragging cuba down too (12% of gdp was Venezuelan aid).
Well, Cuba could have been the crown jewel of the entire Caribbean, the Las Vegas of the Gulf, if they never followed Castro into Soviet rule in the first place. Miami is everything Cuba Havana could have been if Cuba hadn't been such a bunch of major cunts in the 50's, and I say that with love for their culture. But they wanted independence from the USA, and boy did they get it. Me personally, I wish Cuba and Puerto Rico had become the 51 and 52 state of the USA. The embargo would never have happened, the Cuban missile crisis would have never happened, both places would have gotten a lot more USA federal support if they had US Senators and US representatives working for them. They could have had a much closer economic relationship with Florida, and each other, and the other gulf states, decent trade access to Mexico and Trinidad and many other English and Spanish nations of Carribean, and they could have been the Hawaii of the East Coast. They could have been a stabilizing force in Latin America by being places to migrate to, instead of places to flee from. But instead, Cuba became a place under perpetual embargo, and a host to a hostel navy base imposing the embargo / US prison for the kind of prisoners the USA doesn't want anywhere near the mainland. Every fucking time I think about it, I get mad about it. I don't even know why I'm mad about it, because thanks to Castro, now we have Miami, and I'm pretty sure Miami wouldn't have become what it is without Cuba doing what it did.

My uncle who visited Cuba I’m the last year told us some of them are being told they are there to dig trenches and would not see combat then we’re given rifles and told it’s a war zone if Ukrainians come you have to protect yourselves master find them self digging in the front line in combat.

Well, Paul, as a person who worked in setting up production lines, I know it is frustrating but it does take long to set up a production line. Safety, storage etc. are not even questions. They are baked into the process and it does not really affect the outcome in any conceivable way. Maybe 1-3 %. Not more. But it is always better than your whole artillery stock going up in smoke, taking along with your production capacity in an accident. - Russia saw that at the beginning of the war and came to the same conclusions.
What is more important is the supply chain management. Everything you divert to artillery round production is going to be taken from the civilian market. - Remember, during WWII, people were asked to donate their aluminum kitchenware to industry to build planes. Likewise, the brass, steel and explosives that go into the production of shells is the brass steel and nitric compounds not going to the construction, machine building, car production and fertilizers for agriculture.
Russia can get away with less construction, machine building and car production as they don't have an increasing and prospering population now. Likewise, they can divert some of the nitric compounds from fertilizer production to TNT production as they are one of the largest, if not the largest producer and exporter of nitric compounds in the world.
On the other hand, precision rounds from NATO countries, even if they are dumb rounds, showed to be much more effective than the soviet rounds that Russia is using. Required less rounds to get the job done than the massive barrages of Russia.
So, to cut it short, numbers matter but it's not an apple to apple comparison.

I went to Cuba 15ish years ago & it was great. All the 1950s cars still going n the restaurants were fantastic plus the beaches & resorts. Recently Cuba seems to be off the map for tourists

I think it is disgusting that RUclips censors your coverage, an experienced combat vet! I appreciate your insight and experience that comes across in your coverage because you break it down so that people like me who don't have any military experience or particular knowledge (other than reading history books) about military tactics, etc. can understand what's going on in the Russian war against Ukraine. I, for one, thank you for making this understandable for me.

She said "Pokrovsk" direction because that's how both sides identify parts of the front. Basically, "direction" means "next goal". Pokrovsk is a major defensive hub for Ukraine. I’ve been to Cuba and it was great! Admittedly, this was 7 years ago, but it was incredibly cheap, very safe and the food, accommodation and hospitality were amazing!

There was a case of a battalion commander being assassinated by his troops because he was embedding the battalion budget. The russians have been working hard to control corruption in the armed forces, there have been multiple high profile trials for corruption in Russia, not just low level officers but high level too, colonels, generals and civilian officials.

Even the presidential ceremonial guard is using SKS's that are falling apart in the hands of the soldiers, and they're the guys who any visiting foreign dignatary will see first during their stay. The difference lies in tactics, morale, strategies and logistics - That is how wars are won.

At one point Russian was taught in Cuba. My brother's wife's mother is from Cuba and knows Russian.
the russian commander was stealing the money they were sending home to support their families. most are from poor ghettos and are in gangs. was a bad career choice to steal from gang members. they delivered street justice on the russian commander for stealing from their families.
It probably became seen as unnecessary after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Before then, the USSR was subsidizing the purchase of Cuban sugar and was really keeping the economy afloat. They were also instrumental in supporting Castro's government internationally.
They'd be happy to sign her to a contract and send her to Ukraine!

Russia have been using Cubans as cannon fodder for years. During the eighties South Africa was fighting a war in Angola. Russia was paying Cuba to send troops to back up the Angolan communist government and supplying them with equipment, from tanks to Mig fighters. We had Spanish speakers from Venezuela and Peru listening in the radio net to translate.

Castro was not a puppet at all, actually he went at the beginning to the African and Latin America wars and guerrillas by his own initiative (knowing of course Russians later would backed him) he sold to the Soviets the idea of open many fronts in the third world vs USA. URSS sent to Fidel Castro more money that the US sent to rebuild Germany, all to expand socialism and internationalism around the war, He became very rich during the process, but did militarized Cuba and trained terrorist from everywhere and really put in check the Americans...Cuba was not really a colony, Cuba was a parasite of URSS until the colapse...

Not yet militarily, but in terms of overseas assassinations, cyber warfare, hacker attacks, conducting sabotage on sub-water installations etc., they have been quite busy for some time. Cuba are sending troops and doctors around the world to make money to all the politic elite
North Korea sends it's workers out of country to other areas to work. The NK Government gets the wages (in hard currency) after accommodation and keep expenses.... the workers are supervised in-house and only get an allowance....

Hi Paul. Been enjoying your content for a long time now. In regards to holidaying in Cuba; my wife’s parents ( we live in Australia) went to Cuba for a holiday about 15 years ago. They found the people to be very friendly and resilient. Resilient in respect to being able to achieve, in spite of their government of the time. Their tourist driver was also a surgeon. A lot of Canadians go to Cuba for a vaction. Pre COVID my daughter and son-in-law went there and they had a great time. They were on a coastal island which allowed for the separation between the tourists and the locals.

Australia's two artillery shell plants are working around the clock as well as military grade TNT plants. Currently capable of about 100,000 rounds per year. Probably scope to double.

Around 80% of Russia's production right now is pulling stuff from storage and making it combat ready, so they will run out of tanks and artillery around 2026, and f.e. Rheinmetall will build 4 new factories for different weapon systems, and europe should be able to outproduce Russia in 2025/26, even before russians storage is empty.
F.e. Russia produces around 120 tanks per month, but just 15 are new, 105 are upgraded T-72 or even older models. Rheinmetall will build 4 factories, and 1 of them in Ukraine alone will be able to produce around 35 new Panther tanks a month, and it should be ready 2026. It's basically the same for all weapon systems. Around 2026, the west clearly could outproduce Russia, if they want to.
Also the 3 million number isn't accurate. It's all calibers Russia has combined, not just 152mm. Russia produces around 1.8 million 152mm shells per year, the west around 1.2 million 155mm in 2024, and europe alone aims for 1.8 million in 2025.
So around 2025/26 the west will outproduce Russia, but still, the west should increase the production further, because Ukraine alone would need 3 - 4 million shells a year. So the whole west producing 3 million in 2025/26 isn't that much.

Maybe but how many are functional because after 10 years artillery shells just go poof and stop working properly so many of the shells in reserve are probably older than 15 years and need replacing so maybe only 1/4 is still working properly

And Russia doesnt concieve of the corrosive effect on readiness of the rampant corruption of Russian society.
Back in 90 we used left over stocks from the 60’s and 70’s for dumb munitions.

Cuba seriously needs to think about its future. I know the old Cuban Americans can be problematic when it comes to what would happen if the island would ever decided to abandon it's current political system, but this needs to be put in the hands of young people. Old people on both sides are still stuck with grudges, which can drag the progress of a nation like Cuba.

I have been a Union worker most of my life and to listen to a gum salesman deride Union workers for whatever political bent you have was my own red line. Unions built our middle class and brought our country endless improvements in the way workers are treated and the benefits that most workers (including most non Union) is due to sacrifices Union workers have made for generations. So I'm done - there are other channels I can show my support for that don't piss on American Union workers.

5:40 Cuban here, just because we all get drafted, we don't all get military training. The training is somewhat of a joke and a lot of people find ways to get out of it.

Good point about the complete lack of regard for safety in ammo production for the RuZZian rulers (guys on the floor may make feeble attempts to avoid getting themselves killed, management certainly won't when faced with the diktat from the owners or the Kremlin)- but there's a point at which constant excess cost due to poor QC, bad production standards, and losses from fires and explosions in house (not even including what's raked off the top) that makes the "3 million a year" less impressive).
