I love the car in the background. BMW 850. Very soft riding car, given that it looked like a sports car. And the song, like a lot of Prince songs, is hilarious. Cream is another funny bop. So is P Control, my favourite of his later songs.
This came out during one of the more prolific periods (1989 - 1994) in Prince's career when he introduced a new band, The New Power Generation, and dropped the Grafitti Bridge, Diamond & Pearls, Symbol, and The Gold Experience albums. He started experimenting and infusing his own style of rap/hip hop into his Funk/Rock/R&B music. Prince's ego was on 10 at this point as well as his creativity. Some of my favorite Prince songs were born in this period. He was also ahead of his time with use of technology during the time introducing AI concepts within his albums. One of the promos for "The Gold Experience" album was actually a desktop computer game similar to 1st Person/Role Play games of today. If you have noticed, Prince loved featuring his actual personal love interests in his bands, movies and music video. This started with Vanity and lasted through much of his career. In this video, his love interest at the time was Troy Beyer, who is featured as the main girl in the white see through top.
This was Prince before the Jehovah Witness conversion, saw him perform this live in 2014 and he censored the MF part with the horn section playing notes instead of the words which was cool but he had stopped using any profanity by this time so a lot of his older songs were changed a bit when performed live. In any case..still one of the best concerts ever

So this was actually accompanied by random stuff from the radio, and it took me a long time to find which was the correct music for this hilarious video. I simply remember having thought that this was kind of cartoony and that, even without sound, those guys were utterly funny ( and at this point I had no idea that this was actually the same person who sang Girls and Boys, When doves cry or Kiss a few years earlier). I was waiting to see your face when he, ahem, do mimes with this gun-microphone. Btw I’m french, and as no one here really cares about the lyrics, the songs were aired without any censorship, because the vast majority of listeners didn’t unterstand the lyrics or simply didn’t care about it. For instance, during these times, I took classes of modern dancing. My teacher used to let us warm up on Cream, and we did a routine on ”Get off” at the end of the year that same year. Like, imagine it: 15 girls, between 12 and 18, dancing on stage on lyrics about a wild number of positions during a one night stand. The music was catchy, no one understood, we had a very fun time, and not a single parent complained, because nobody payed attention to the lyrics. I’m not sure that it would be possible yet, even in France, people speak english more decently than before 😂 But at about the same time, there was a popular TV quizz in France, and the host had the very same gilded microphone gun. And THIS caused a scandal, because anything reminding a gun in a familial show was a big No Way. It was a clear reference to this music video, since the host was an avid rock and pop fan, but it seems that almost no one caught the reference and they complained to the TV channel until they get rid of the microphone. And to end: 15 years me reminded the sexy half naked girls and funny guys. So naive me. 45 me: " wait, I’m too busy to drool while looking at the sexy half naked man to see the other people. My, he stays sexy wearing a kind of trousers, that would look absolutely unsexy on anyone else." But I like the stylish jacket.
