This conversation between Mulder and Scully had a double meaning. By calling her out on her lying to him, he's telling her not to deny what's really going on between them. He's telling her that her fear of dying in cancer is linked to her attachment to him. That's why she keeps denying the fact she might die from this. Because to her it means that by facing her mortality, she would also have to admit how she really feels about Mulder. And she's not ready for that. This shows Mulder knows Scully even better than she knows herself. Maybe the only thing she's even more afraid of than death is her love for Mulder. Even when she was pregnant, she was clearly more afraid of the possibility of Mulder being the father of her child than it being an alien fetus. What she feels for Mulder is something she's never felt before in her life. Before she met Mulder, her greatest fear was death. Now the thing she's afraid of the most is her love for Mulder.
I really enjoy this episode, but I don't like the conversation between them at the end. And Scully seeing Harold's ghost was terrifying. We know now she'd be ok. But that wasn't the case in 1997.
