We are going through this right now. My daughter’s friend saw a guy throw a dog out his car. They brought him to our house. He’s maybe 1 1/2 or two years old. We found out he was used as a bait dog and he was completely emaciated and malnourished. We got him on March 24th. I have 2 other dogs one is almost 11 he’s part German Shepherd and wolf, another dog we rescued when he was a pup. And the other is 4, a mixed pit with boxer. They all got along great until this last month. All of a sudden my 4 year old and the new one just started fighting out of nowhere! We didn’t plan on keeping the new dog we just was going to nurse him back to health and find a good home for him, but then we fell in love with him. He’s really the sweetest most loving dog we ever had. He’s a German Shorthaired Pointer dog. I’m trying to find information on how to train the dogs to stop fighting because I just can’t get rid of the new one. He’s part of our family now. And we love them
Your video was extremely helpful… my girl and my boy dog have been together since babies then all of a sudden they started fighting here and there… then she was in heat and they were having puppies and she would be on defense towards him but they were fighting for the kill… I tried your method and so far everything has been good… thank you
very similar situation. Both girls got along fine before they both went into heat at the same time. Since then, it's been a challenge. Right now, I am thankful for this video since they are in different rooms.
Thank you for this video. I recently adopted a new puppy, and brought her home. My older dog who is generally a peaceful dog started acting aggressive towards the puppy. One incident was during feeding time, and the other was while I was trying to play with both of them. The new puppy tip toes around her now, and my older dog feels ashamed of her behavior; however, she is not completely comfortable with the new puppy in the house. For the most part, they can be in the same room with each other, and I can now shower without having to worry about them, but I'm still looking for ways to break the tension in the household. I'm glad I found your channel so I can apply what I've learned in my household.
My livestock guardian puppy has started resource guarding me in the evenings before i go in to retire for the night, when i put the older dog out to keep him company and help him guard because hes only 5 months old. He also will guard food, so i feed them separately. I can't stand over their interactions all the time because the puppy is a working job, and he lives with the poultry and goats, but i want him to have his doggy play time because even working puppies are still puppies, and otherwise he adores his older mentor, but the mentor is a house dog, not a livestock guardian type, but still in the working group and a giant. The bigger issue is that both are giants, the 5 year old is 120 lbs and rather passive, a very good boy who is really trying not to cause issues, but gets super nervous about setting off this 100 lb 5 month old puppy. The puppy is projected to reach 200 lbs at his current rate of growth, and outside of this resource guarding over my attention in the evening, he is actually a really great dog. He could become very dangerous to my older dog if i can't nip this, but he's too young to go without a partner in the fields, and my 2 year old livestock guardian died so the house dog is his only dog friend. I do express verbal displeasure when he actively growls and lunges, and this usually makes him pause and look at me, usually hanging his head. Often, I'll bring in the house dog inside for a while after any incident for cool down time. Reintroduction is usually met with reservation on the older dog's part and excited muzxle licking on the younger dog's part. I do spend separate time with both boys so they don't feel left out, but the working dog is expected to be spending most of his day tending to his charges, especially at night when i need him most to be active. So far, the goats have grown to accept him, and he likes them, although hes too young to be left full time alone because he's not mature enough for full time unsupervised guard duty without a mentor dog. My house dog is a good stopgap, but not a true replacement. He never attacks any of the livestock or even chases for fun, so that's why he's the mentor when i can't be outside. I will still continue rewarding good behavior and discouraging bad behavior, but its just a little more complicated with the outdoor dog.
I found this video helpful because I’ve already watched the fight and talk videos and resolve now I’m watching your videos because honesty I prefer audio talking and discussion just as much as videos with dogs so he’s I’m subscribing and liking both types of videos are helpful.
I agree with your consensus. However, few owners have the where with all to tackle the underlying issues. Unfortunately in many cases, just to save a dogs life, they have to make the heart wrenching decision to rehome one of their dogs. This was my situation and I can honestly say, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.Two hundred lb dogs, siblings raised together since puppies, four years later trying to kill each other. At first it was the occasional scuffle, but soon progressed to the point that they could not be together inside or outside anywhere without fighting. It made our life a living hell. After several costly trips to the vet to have them sown back up, and myself trips to the emergency room, I had to make the most difficult of decisions.I had trainers come to the house and exhausted my research online, doing everything I could to resolve the issue, but nothing worked. I would have done anything to keep my dog, and can't even bear to look at her photos to this day.
I am in the exact boat and feel like I'm failing my girl so bad and can't seem to find her a home that will work for her 😢. I am saying she needs to be the only dog in home, and people just can't seem to understand that !
Props for being courageous enough to change the landscape before you (and the dogs) ran out of options. Some situations simply require so much work that it isn't reasonable to expect improvement based on your resources... some, though rare, are beyond repair. Reputable trainers will tell you like it is, and promise you nothing. Beckman, Krohn & Cabral are three guys that have a realistic lens you can look through readily on RUclips. They show actual footage in tough scenarios - and it gives you a chance to watch not only the body language of the dogs, but of the handlers as well. If you're ever in a situation where you feel genuine fear to handle your dogs, it is a recipe for disaster - get professional help immediately.
Im Australian and to get help like this, its very costly and I only found one behaviourist who services my area so l've had to do a lot of research then stumbled across this and its the most helpful information I have come across so far and the techniques work! You're very clear with your information which gives great perspective to make it easier for overwhelmed owners like me to feel confident and have an action plan in place and see where i have gone wrong too, to be more mindful etc Thank you sooo much beautiful lady! I am trying to foster a female dog that has been living wild and scared for at least several months and she only likes me and my granddaughter. She is aggressive toward other animals and people. I recently adopted a dog from a rescue who apparently got along fine with the other dogs at the rescue home. He didn't do well with the other dogs at my house. It was bad. He was only 6 pounds but was attacking my sister's much bigger border collies. My little guy had pretty much every behavioral issue you can think of, as well..... resource guarding, agression towards humans, towards small animals outside like squirrels and birds (more of a high prey drive), barrier aggression, leash reactivity, separation anxiety, and more. It was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do, but after 2½ months, I had to return him to the rescue. I don't feel the rescue really knew the dog very well. I understand they are trying to help many dogs at once, so I understand to some degree. At the same time, it's hard to imagine that he didn't demonstrate any of these behaviors with the rescue. Maybe if he had more time to adjust to the rescue home before being adopted out, or maybe if I had known better how to help him, or if there weren't other dogs in my house, or maybe I was doing something wrong....I don't know. But I love that dog and my heart is broken for him. I feel like bringing him here was too traumatizing for him. I am hoping he finds the right person who will work with him with the right techniques. I worked really hard using positive reinforcement, and tried to gently desentize him. He just had SO MANY difficult behaviors and triggers. Aggression between dogs in the same house cannot be taken lightly. I'm glad you are putting this information out there. This can help a lot of dogs and their owners. Thank you for helping dogs.
I’m going through a very similar situation with a dog from a shelter. He’s got my sisters dog so upset and scared. I love him though and he is sooo awesome in so many ways.
Our 2 dogs who have been living together just around 2 years have started fighting. My pointer pit has started attacking my pittie. We’ve had them separated for 4 days since one accidentally bit my mom during us separating them and required her getting stitches. We brought them out tonight on leashes and the anxiety between the two dogs were very palpable. I have a vet appointment tomorrow for the aggressor to make sure nothing is physically wrong with him causing him to be aggressive. Also should note all of our animals are fixed. And the point pit only attacks the pittie, he is fine with the other two dogs in the house. We’ve been so overwhelmed and worried and just researching what to do to help them.
@@MyLifeInTheDesert no it hasn’t. We’ve had to keep them separate and tonight in fact my pitbull busted out of his metal kennel ( broke it) and attacked the other dog who was the original aggressor. I don’t know what to do. We’re fixing to sell our house so i have planned on using some money from that to put them in a 6 week program “inpatient “ to see if that helps. If it doesn’t, we’ll have to rehome one and I really really don’t want to do that
My boyfriend and I are trying to integrate our two packs together (I have 5, he has 2). It's going really smoothly so far, even the only two males are just ignoring each other and coexisting together which is awesome. The only problem that arose was with my male poodle (who's not a fan of other dogs and just wants to go about his day) and my boyfriend's female gsd mix. She's incredibly friendly, even too much sometimes so she really wants to play with my poodle. He's not having it and he tries and tell her he needs more space by removing himself from the situation or growling. I think she never met a dog that didn't like her so she barks at him from a distance all the time. It's not aggressive I think and she generally barks a lot anyway (the gsd genes are strong). We noticed that the more we took them boh on walks together the less this behavior occured
Same exact problem with my german shepherd puppy and my older and much smaller dog. They did pretty good when the gs was smaller. But when he started getting too heavy for the other dog, the other dog just quit playing. Now he just fights the gs for a min until he backs up. Then the barking begins.
What if one dog has just become OBSESSED with another dog? After 6 months of living together, our newest dog just decided that if our little dog is out, she's laser trained on her and won't let up. Previously they had zero issues. I can't seem to find any videos or info specific to this.
Currently going thru it at my house my Irish wolfhound male and 2 year old border collie fighting over my female wolfhound. Border is on edge now and they are separate constantly. Hard to deal with because they are best friends normally. I’m running and training the collie extra to work some of it out hopefully we get back to normal soon.
I have 3 dogs, a 3 year old female chiweenie, a 4 year old male black lab and wolf mix, and a 6 year old female coonhound. The two females have gotten into fights a few times and it always seems so random. One second everything is fine then the next they're at each other's throats. I don't know why they fight at all. I know that the 5 year old has some toy aggression and the 3 year old has some problems with new dogs, but most of their fights have nothing to do with any of that, no toys and they've been living together for over 2 years. Example: me and my parents were doing setting up stuff and cleaning outside, the dogs were running around and just being dogs. Then, out of nowhere, the two females get into a bad fight. I don't know who attacked first because I wasn't watching, but they were both being very aggressive and biting at each other. Lucky there was no blood shed, but it was still scary and so random. I don't know how to fix this problem because I have no idea what's causing it to begin with.
I’m not shifting blame, but you said it yourself, you weren’t watching, so how can you know it’s out of nowhere? I’m no expert and you can’t watch 3 dogs 24/7, but dog behaviour, although subtle, can be understood and predicted when you know what to look for. It’s all in the body language as they can’t tell to us “who started first” 😅
My dogs were fine for 3 years, but when my puppy turned 3 he started to resource guard my attention, or whoever is with them. he got really aggressive with my older dog. we played catch for years and then they suddenly just didn't get along. They only fight when I'm with them or someone else is with them. When they're alone they are fine for the most part. (Except lately my youngest one seems to get upset when the older one approaches the door) I have to separate them to walk or play time or anytime I'm with them. This has been going on for 3 months. Everything I do seems to make everything worse. I really thought that with time they would forget and get along again, but that was definitely wishful thinking. They "fight" with the young one being the dominant and aggressive one. I'm going to put muzzles on them and try to finally deal with the situation
Same issue with mine. They're 6 months apart and I've had them since they were 6 weeks old. Out of the blue the oldest one just started attacking the other one! My rotty could literally just walk into the house from being outside and sit on the couch. My boxer will slowly walk up, stand over the rott and just attack! No growling from the rott or anything. He will literally be very sub and not fight back until he's had enough after a couple min of the boxer being an ass. Or I could walk into the gate, my boxer is at door of gate and rott is across the yard and the moment I walk in he will run across yard and attack him. I just don't understand it! I've tried everything and my last resort is rehoming one. The crazy thing is the boxer will not attack any other dogs outside of the home at all. He doesn't even attack our 3rd dog. But I'm worried he will start like he did after a couple years with the rott.
@@tysonharrell9395 I'm sorry to hear that you're going through the same. How long has it been going on and does the boxer draw blood when he attacks? My doberman puts his mouth over my other dog's head but doesnt bite, on occasion he drew blood by simply doing that and other times there's no blood. So at least I know that he's not really trying to harm my other dog. This happened every day for 2 weeks until I finally realized that they only did this when someone else was outside with them. I then quickly took myself out of the equation and did/do everything separate with them. I've been doing this for 3 months. I really hoped that the issue would resolve on its own but that was definitely wishful thinking. The problem is still there. My uncle had an issue with his older doberman and newly acquired female doberman, but that seems to have resolved on its own. Resource guarding is no joke.
@@SukiSuki2 it's up to the owner to learn the behavior patterns and learn how to deal with them. We can make it so much worse by not knowing how to react accordingly.
Thanks for the video, I have an 8 yr old terrier girl and just got a 6 month old English bulldog girl and when they 1st met they were barking and growing ready to tare each other up, then they got along somewhat but they have been fighting more lately and I'm afraid the bully is going to end up hurting the terrier even though the terrier is the one who is very moody.
My girls get excited when I come in the house last night my big was too rough n bite my small dog she was bleeding n crying rushed to the vet thank God it was a small puncture my little one is older now she not been herself since last night I have the completely so scared to bring them back together 😥😥 it was traumatic don’t know what to do
My husband has just had to leave for a deployment and each of our dogs love attention, but since it’s just me I’ve been have a rise in aggression due to my main dog getting upset at my husbands dog trying to get attention. And it’s only when the attention is what is happening that he attacks , every other time they are fine. I just feel terrible cause one there is a significant size difference and that my smaller dog is beginning to not want to be inside the house.
I have two dachshunds, mom and sister. My daughter has two also, dad and brother. We moved in together about 6 months ago. We have escalating aggression. Brother has bullied dad for years, but sister won’t tolerate it. Now she seems to be escalating. Dad, who is very passive, is a target for her now, too. She doesn’t want another dog playing with me, sitting by me, near my bed, etc. she even attacked the mom dog…first time ever. In the meantime, brother snarls and growls at her in the house, but will be ok outside with everyone. Sister is becoming more pushy toward brother, outside too. We give them all cbd oil. Supervise closely as possible but we have work to do! If you’ve never had a dachshund, you have no idea!!!! I’m afraid I’ll have to rehome my sister dog. “Raining treats from the heavens” when she looks at brother and dad never worked( 5 weeks of dog trainer advice.)
7 years my 2 dogs best mates. Last week the younger one started random attacking the older one. It's getting worse like you say. The older dog is naturally tinid and never fights back.. Only hides or scream when the other one attacks it. Usually happens when I am out of the room. Now the older one is scared to be alone with the other. 😢
My problem is, my attacking dog will attack any dog in my home if they get in his space when he’s aggravated. Usually when I’m at the fence talking to my neighbor, if any of my other dogs come to the fence he will attack them. PS my attacking dog loves my neighbor, he’s not trying to protect me, he just don’t want any of my other dogs out at the fence. He will attack the other dogs if they happen to step on his foot or play with his ball. My other dogs are terrified of him. He’s a frenchie, and he’s insane crazy! I will have to rehome his if I can’t get this under control. I even had a dog training come to my home. Never helped a thing! Wasted money.. I love this dog, but I can’t do this much longer.
Thank you for your video. As soon as my pup turned 6 months he and the 2-year-old dog started fighting. At first, it was around mealtime, then it progresses to space. Now they are completely separate since when they make eye contact, one or the other will growl and then they will go at each other. This has been so stressful since they have gotten along well up until the pup has gotten more mature. I want to wait to neuter him until he's a year... but now I'm wondering if this could be part of the cause. They are both male and I figured that wouldn't cause an issue. Now I just feel stuck and am scared to train/ desensitize sometimes, since anything can be a trigger.
I am in a very similar situation and really feel for you. I have a 8 month old puppy and we live with a housemate and his almost 2 year old British bulldog. We got our puppy desexed over one week ago and have separated the dogs ever since our puppy kept attacking the other dog. We have a trainer coming on the 15th august so we are truly hoping this will help us. They were best friends up until our puppy matured, it’s super disheartening and I have to lose work hours to petsit my puppy right now which is not ideal.
I have a 4 year old basenji mix female and a 2 year old flat coated retriever mix with chow chow and after my 2 yr old had turned 1 I had to start crate training so they can be away from each other from time to time. Now they cannot be out of the cage at the same time. They will fight until blood is everywhere then they will stop :( I’m so stressed out and want to get them back to how they used to be
my older dog (5 years ) started getting being aggressive with my younger one (3 years)(father and son) and it started with growling and just two days ago they fought for the first time and it wasn’t deadly but they made each other bleed. I have two female dogs (a mother and daughter) who have hated each other ever since they both went into heat at the same time and there was a new boy dog in the family. However, one of the dogs is also very possessive and will look at her food bowl not eating and growl at other dogs and will pick up toys and go after dogs trying to play with her. I'm having to keep her separated but it's very inconvenient. The two fighters seem to have no times when they like each other.
i have a 5 year old chihuahua dachshund mix and we, two weeks ago just adopted an 8 month old Old English Sheepdog. they got along well for the first 4 days but on day 4, they were getting ready to go outside and the little guy growled at the oes and she attacked him and shook him in her mouth. she hasn’t done anything since and i am keeping them mostly separated while i’m at work and will let them in the same room while i’m home for a little bit just to have them get used to each other. my family is saying we need to rehome her and it’s not going to work because he is scared shitless, when she’s in the room he is visibly shaking and wide eyed. he’s afraid of her. i understand but i’m really hoping we can fix this over time. can someone help please

Lately my 3 year old poodle attacks my 7 year old, her grandma when she has a barf episode. I don’t get it she literally longes at her then gets aggressive with me when I tried correcting her. Pebbles the grandma retreats doesn’t react she goes and hides. I am getting concerned leaving them alone now. What could be happening? Normally I can figure out their behavior like for instance when Bam Bam the 3 year old hides a snack (which I stopped leaving around if I step out).

Same thing's happening with my 2 female dogs, they're not siblings but one of the gets jealous when you give the other one affection. The one who gets attacked then gets aggressive but wong attack dirrectly until the attacker attacks.
Ok my dog (dog a) is new to being around other dogs. He was an only dog for the first year of his life and for the past few months I moved in with my mom who has a few little dogs, dog b(is a small and slow/dumb dog) who stays in my moms room most of the day and causes no problems. My dog is very aggressive towards that dog and I can’t figure out why. These contexts don’t really apply here other than food my dog is very territorial over food but dog b doesn’t get near his food. His aggression outburst are random.
I learned alot from your video. However I find the example pairs of dogs you use are male female I didn't see any male male dogs. In this situation. I have two male intact dogs that are father and son used to have great relationship but now they actually look for each other when bring walked in a ready to attack mode. There have been times that I would be walking the younger dog and his father wouod get a glimpse or sniff of him and push his way out the door and come running into for the attack without any idea he was coming. It's horrendous . I dont want to give up either dog but I Don't want them to fight to the point one of them ends up dead. I'm not sure I could attemot any of these techniques on my own.
I have 3 pups Brought up together, same breed,similar ages..1 is attacking when a toy is involved. She was okay sharing before so I'm confused.she is fine if a human is near her toy. If 1 of the other 2 pups comes near her toy she's playing with she will attack..I'm not sure what to do.. or how 2 respond..I want to stop this before it evolves.they are all fine arround food ,treats etc.. My basset hound and my malador fights. What happened is, when my female basset hound see my male malador dog laying down or around with me or my husband, my basset hound go crazy, she gets mad and start a fight. Im so scared coz my malador can actually hurt my basset, but my basset always starts the fight. Don't know what do anymore 😭
Hi, my dogs usually get on and do not fight. Yesterday they had an aggressive encounter, when I interviened to stop the fight my female went to attack me twice which resulted in my male then attacking the female. I put my female in time out which ended the event. Today my male is on guard around her and two more fights have occurred today. I think My male has lost trust with the female and is now attacking her because of her attacking me. I feel stressed around them now and can't relax. Both dogs are intact, my male is just over 2 yrs old, my female is 15 months old. My male is so soft, caring and loving and has never shown any aggression prior to yesterday and im worried that my females aggressive tendency my ruin his temperament. Should I separate them or just deal with the fighting as it happens. Pls help im so miserable because they usually are good friends.

Thank you for this video. I have a question. We have a 3 dog household, 2 females and 1 male. 2 of them are fixed, except for the younger female (20 months). During her heat, she attacked the older female 2 times. (When she was a puppy, to older one would “bully” her a lot). We separated them and slowly brought them back together. They did fine for almost a week, a few growls here and there, but we had control of the situation. My dad left a chew toy on accident in the backyard and chaos happened. I was sitting at the table when I started hearing growls, I stood up and before I could see them, the younger female was biting the older one. This was a pretty big fight, I therefore a blanket on them, threw cold water, but none worked. At the moment I had guests over, but they weren’t of any help (who understandably were afraid). I tried lifting the hind legs of the younger one, but as soon as she stopped biting the older one would come back to attack and I didn’t have anyone to help me hold the older one. My older brother reached home (the older one is his dog) and started punching my dog (which I don’t think was appropriate, since I told him to hold his dog while I manage mine). The older one was brought to the vet the next morning and had been bitten in the throat area and ears. More context about the dogs: the younger one is usually non reactive to dogs, other animals and humans, while the older one is very reactive towards every animal who isn’t one of the 2 other dogs in the house. She used to kill cats and other small animals before my brother moved in with her. Taking her anywhere outside the house is hard. She resource guards food and toys, while the other 2 dogs don’t. I understand that ny dog bit his dog, but he is telling me to move out with my dog and that my dog needs professional help (my dog has been to obedience school) while his has never met an outside dog without reacting towards it. How can I best handle the situation? Is my dog really the problem here even if she doesn’t react to any other dogs? (We’ve separated them since the fight)
Same with my situation 😢 It is really sad to see my dogs fight. We have 4 dogs in total. 3 males 1 female. The older male which is 7 years old already always insist the fight to the other one which is a 1 year old. Then we have the other male which is the younger one that is also aggressive that also fight. They always "bully" the 1 year old dog. I don't know the reason but it feels like the reason for their fighting is to determine who is the alpha or something like that since we have 3 males. Some sort of competition. Both of them are aggressive but the older one have too much. They also killed a cat before with my female dog... When they fight, (it is always a big fight too and it scares me that one of them could actually die.) It wasn't just a normal fight though since they really won't stop unless they are seriously injured. I do everything like making loud noises, trying to get the other one but no one help me. They said that I should just let them fight cause they will stop on their own. I want to at least change their behavior cause I can't just let them be used to that fighting and I don't want them to hurt other animals. It is exhausting also don't know what to do.
I have two dachshunds. One gets aggressive only around us (our attention) and food. I’m thinking it’s that she’s food aggresssive. We control the food. She wants to claim us.
I have two Great Pyrenees (Charlie, 6, and Hakkeyoi, 2). Charlie is my gf's dog, and Hakkeyoi is mine (she had charlie about a year before we met, and hakkeyoi spent the first year and a half of his life going to work with me so a lot of time together). Any time my gf comes into the room, they become aggressive toward each other. They've legitimately fought very aggressively before, to where Charlie inadvertently bit my hand. It's generally Hakkeyoi that initiates with a stiff body language and standing sideways and side-eying Charlie. How should I go about helping them lose their tenseness when gf is around?
My 2-year-old female pitbull gets along great with almost every other boy dog. But if it's another female dog she will almost always become very reactionary and snap at them.
There's nothing that my 2 dogs like to do together. There was always competition between them. They both have very different personalities. They both are females. When it started they both was pregnant, now the one dog had her puppies but they all died, the 2 dogs are still fighting.
I would like to know if two unfixed male dogs can be socialized…I live in an area that doesn’t have vets around. And I really don’t want to hafto beat my mom’s dog’s head open if he attacks my pitbull again…he learned his lesson with my Tosa Inu mainly because she doesn’t take his shit but the pitbull is not even a year old.

Beckman walks the walk, so does Krohn and Cabral. "Talking about talking" trainers really need to step up and walk the walk. If you haven't been, or aren't willing to work with big strong dogs that have issues...you really have no grounds to speak as an expert on the subject, or give advice. Post videos showing yourself actually using your methods successfully in dangerous situations, or stop arguing with those that do. And no, doing that Zak thing with a Corso PUPPY doesn't count unless you do a follow up 100 pounds later. Treating big strong dogs like babies doesn't work, isn't realistic, and isn't practical. Bitches don't treat the litter like a bunch of fragile butterflies - it wouldn't serve the species. Nature is cruel and unfair (but balanced), and not acknowledging how it works by sugar coating domesticated canine/human relationships is a disservice to the animals we all want better lives for. We are going through this right now. My daughter’s friend saw a guy throw a dog out his car. They brought him to our house. He’s maybe 1 1/2 or two years old. We found out he was used as a bait dog and he was completely emaciated and malnourished. We got him on March 24th. I have 2 other dogs one is almost 11 he’s part German Shepherd and wolf, another dog we rescued when he was a pup. And the other is 4, a mixed pit with boxer. They all got along great until this last month. All of a sudden my 4 year old and the new one just started fighting out of nowhere! We didn’t plan on keeping the new dog we just was going to nurse him back to health and find a good home for him, but then we fell in love with him. He’s really the sweetest most loving dog we ever had. He’s a German Shorthaired Pointer dog. I’m trying to find information on how to train the dogs to stop fighting because I just can’t get rid of the new one. He’s part of our family now. And we love them

Thank you for this video. I recently adopted a new puppy, and brought her home. My older dog who is generally a peaceful dog started acting aggressive towards the puppy. One incident was during feeding time, and the other was while I was trying to play with both of them. The new puppy tip toes around her now, and my older dog feels ashamed of her behavior; however, she is not completely comfortable with the new puppy in the house. For the most part, they can be in the same room with each other, and I can now shower without having to worry about them, but I'm still looking for ways to break the tension in the household. I'm glad I found your channel so I can apply what I've learned in my household.

My livestock guardian puppy has started resource guarding me in the evenings before i go in to retire for the night, when i put the older dog out to keep him company and help him guard because hes only 5 months old. He also will guard food, so i feed them separately. I can't stand over their interactions all the time because the puppy is a working job, and he lives with the poultry and goats, but i want him to have his doggy play time because even working puppies are still puppies, and otherwise he adores his older mentor, but the mentor is a house dog, not a livestock guardian type, but still in the working group and a giant. The bigger issue is that both are giants, the 5 year old is 120 lbs and rather passive, a very good boy who is really trying not to cause issues, but gets super nervous about setting off this 100 lb 5 month old puppy. The puppy is projected to reach 200 lbs at his current rate of growth, and outside of this resource guarding over my attention in the evening, he is actually a really great dog. He could become very dangerous to my older dog if i can't nip this, but he's too young to go without a partner in the fields, and my 2 year old livestock guardian died so the house dog is his only dog friend. I do express verbal displeasure when he actively growls and lunges, and this usually makes him pause and look at me, usually hanging his head. Often, I'll bring in the house dog inside for a while after any incident for cool down time. Reintroduction is usually met with reservation on the older dog's part and excited muzxle licking on the younger dog's part. I do spend separate time with both boys so they don't feel left out, but the working dog is expected to be spending most of his day tending to his charges, especially at night when i need him most to be active. So far, the goats have grown to accept him, and he likes them, although hes too young to be left full time alone because he's not mature enough for full time unsupervised guard duty without a mentor dog. My house dog is a good stopgap, but not a true replacement. He never attacks any of the livestock or even chases for fun, so that's why he's the mentor when i can't be outside. I will still continue rewarding good behavior and discouraging bad behavior, but its just a little more complicated with the outdoor dog.
I found this video helpful because I’ve already watched the fight and talk videos and resolve now I’m watching your videos because honesty I prefer audio talking and discussion just as much as videos with dogs so he’s I’m subscribing and liking both types of videos are helpful.
I agree with your consensus. However, few owners have the where with all to tackle the underlying issues. Unfortunately in many cases, just to save a dogs life, they have to make the heart wrenching decision to rehome one of their dogs. This was my situation and I can honestly say, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.Two hundred lb dogs, siblings raised together since puppies, four years later trying to kill each other. At first it was the occasional scuffle, but soon progressed to the point that they could not be together inside or outside anywhere without fighting. It made our life a living hell. After several costly trips to the vet to have them sown back up, and myself trips to the emergency room, I had to make the most difficult of decisions.I had trainers come to the house and exhausted my research online, doing everything I could to resolve the issue, but nothing worked. I would have done anything to keep my dog, and can't even bear to look at her photos to this day.
I am in the exact boat and feel like I'm failing my girl so bad and can't seem to find her a home that will work for her 😢. I am saying she needs to be the only dog in home, and people just can't seem to understand that !
Props for being courageous enough to change the landscape before you (and the dogs) ran out of options. Some situations simply require so much work that it isn't reasonable to expect improvement based on your resources... some, though rare, are beyond repair. Reputable trainers will tell you like it is, and promise you nothing. Beckman, Krohn & Cabral are three guys that have a realistic lens you can look through readily on RUclips. They show actual footage in tough scenarios - and it gives you a chance to watch not only the body language of the dogs, but of the handlers as well. If you're ever in a situation where you feel genuine fear to handle your dogs, it is a recipe for disaster - get professional help immediately.
Im Australian and to get help like this, its very costly and I only found one behaviourist who services my area so l've had to do a lot of research then stumbled across this and its the most helpful information I have come across so far and the techniques work!

I recently adopted a dog from a rescue who apparently got along fine with the other dogs at the rescue home. He didn't do well with the other dogs at my house. It was bad. He was only 6 pounds but was attacking my sister's much bigger border collies. My little guy had pretty much every behavioral issue you can think of, as well..... resource guarding, agression towards humans, towards small animals outside like squirrels and birds (more of a high prey drive), barrier aggression, leash reactivity, separation anxiety, and more. It was the most difficult thing I've ever had to do, but after 2½ months, I had to return him to the rescue. I don't feel the rescue really knew the dog very well. I understand they are trying to help many dogs at once, so I understand to some degree. At the same time, it's hard to imagine that he didn't demonstrate any of these behaviors with the rescue. Maybe if he had more time to adjust to the rescue home before being adopted out, or maybe if I had known better how to help him, or if there weren't other dogs in my house, or maybe I was doing something wrong....I don't know. But I love that dog and my heart is broken for him. I feel like bringing him here was too traumatizing for him.
I am hoping he finds the right person who will work with him with the right techniques. I worked really hard using positive reinforcement, and tried to gently desentize him. He just had SO MANY difficult behaviors and triggers. Aggression between dogs in the same house cannot be taken lightly. I'm glad you are putting this information out there. This can help a lot of dogs and their owners. Thank you for helping dogs.

Our 2 dogs who have been living together just around 2 years have started fighting. My pointer pit has started attacking my pittie. We’ve had them separated for 4 days since one accidentally bit my mom during us separating them and required her getting stitches. We brought them out tonight on leashes and the anxiety between the two dogs were very palpable.
I have a vet appointment tomorrow for the aggressor to make sure nothing is physically wrong with him causing him to be aggressive.
Also should note all of our animals are fixed. And the point pit only attacks the pittie, he is fine with the other two dogs in the house.
We’ve been so overwhelmed and worried and just researching what to do to help them.

@@MyLifeInTheDesert no it hasn’t. We’ve had to keep them separate and tonight in fact my pitbull busted out of his metal kennel ( broke it) and attacked the other dog who was the original aggressor. I don’t know what to do. We’re fixing to sell our house so i have planned on using some money from that to put them in a 6 week program “inpatient “ to see if that helps. If it doesn’t, we’ll have to rehome one and I really really don’t want to do that

My boyfriend and I are trying to integrate our two packs together (I have 5, he has 2). It's going really smoothly so far, even the only two males are just ignoring each other and coexisting together which is awesome. The only problem that arose was with my male poodle (who's not a fan of other dogs and just wants to go about his day) and my boyfriend's female gsd mix. She's incredibly friendly, even too much sometimes so she really wants to play with my poodle. He's not having it and he tries and tell her he needs more space by removing himself from the situation or growling. I think she never met a dog that didn't like her so she barks at him from a distance all the time. It's not aggressive I think and she generally barks a lot anyway (the gsd genes are strong). We noticed that the more we took them boh on walks together the less this behavior occured
Same exact problem with my german shepherd puppy and my older and much smaller dog.
They did pretty good when the gs was smaller. But when he started getting too heavy for the other dog, the other dog just quit playing. Now he just fights the gs for a min until he backs up. Then the barking begins.

What if one dog has just become OBSESSED with another dog? After 6 months of living together, our newest dog just decided that if our little dog is out, she's laser trained on her and won't let up. Previously they had zero issues. I can't seem to find any videos or info specific to this.
Currently going thru it at my house my Irish wolfhound male and 2 year old border collie fighting over my female wolfhound. Border is on edge now and they are separate constantly. Hard to deal with because they are best friends normally. I’m running and training the collie extra to work some of it out hopefully we get back to normal soon.

I have 3 dogs, a 3 year old female chiweenie, a 4 year old male black lab and wolf mix, and a 6 year old female coonhound. The two females have gotten into fights a few times and it always seems so random. One second everything is fine then the next they're at each other's throats. I don't know why they fight at all. I know that the 5 year old has some toy aggression and the 3 year old has some problems with new dogs, but most of their fights have nothing to do with any of that, no toys and they've been living together for over 2 years. Example: me and my parents were doing setting up stuff and cleaning outside, the dogs were running around and just being dogs. Then, out of nowhere, the two females get into a bad fight. I don't know who attacked first because I wasn't watching, but they were both being very aggressive and biting at each other. Lucky there was no blood shed, but it was still scary and so random. I don't know how to fix this problem because I have no idea what's causing it to begin with.
I’m not shifting blame, but you said it yourself, you weren’t watching, so how can you know it’s out of nowhere? I’m no expert and you can’t watch 3 dogs 24/7, but dog behaviour, although subtle, can be understood and predicted when you know what to look for. It’s all in the body language as they can’t tell to us “who started first” 😅
My dogs were fine for 3 years, but when my puppy turned 3 he started to resource guard my attention, or whoever is with them. he got really aggressive with my older dog. we played catch for years and then they suddenly just didn't get along. They only fight when I'm with them or someone else is with them. When they're alone they are fine for the most part. (Except lately my youngest one seems to get upset when the older one approaches the door) I have to separate them to walk or play time or anytime I'm with them. This has been going on for 3 months. Everything I do seems to make everything worse. I really thought that with time they would forget and get along again, but that was definitely wishful thinking. They "fight" with the young one being the dominant and aggressive one. I'm going to put muzzles on them and try to finally deal with the situation
Same issue with mine. They're 6 months apart and I've had them since they were 6 weeks old. Out of the blue the oldest one just started attacking the other one! My rotty could literally just walk into the house from being outside and sit on the couch. My boxer will slowly walk up, stand over the rott and just attack! No growling from the rott or anything. He will literally be very sub and not fight back until he's had enough after a couple min of the boxer being an ass. Or I could walk into the gate, my boxer is at door of gate and rott is across the yard and the moment I walk in he will run across yard and attack him. I just don't understand it! I've tried everything and my last resort is rehoming one. The crazy thing is the boxer will not attack any other dogs outside of the home at all. He doesn't even attack our 3rd dog. But I'm worried he will start like he did after a couple years with the rott.
@@tysonharrell9395 I'm sorry to hear that you're going through the same. How long has it been going on and does the boxer draw blood when he attacks? My doberman puts his mouth over my other dog's head but doesnt bite, on occasion he drew blood by simply doing that and other times there's no blood. So at least I know that he's not really trying to harm my other dog. This happened every day for 2 weeks until I finally realized that they only did this when someone else was outside with them. I then quickly took myself out of the equation and did/do everything separate with them. I've been doing this for 3 months. I really hoped that the issue would resolve on its own but that was definitely wishful thinking. The problem is still there. My uncle had an issue with his older doberman and newly acquired female doberman, but that seems to have resolved on its own. Resource guarding is no joke.

@@SukiSuki2 it's up to the owner to learn the behavior patterns and learn how to deal with them. We can make it so much worse by not knowing how to react accordingly.
Thanks for the video, I have an 8 yr old terrier girl and just got a 6 month old English bulldog girl and when they 1st met they were barking and growing ready to tare each other up, then they got along somewhat but they have been fighting more lately and I'm afraid the bully is going to end up hurting the terrier even though the terrier is the one who is very moody.

My husband has just had to leave for a deployment and each of our dogs love attention, but since it’s just me I’ve been have a rise in aggression due to my main dog getting upset at my husbands dog trying to get attention. And it’s only when the attention is what is happening that he attacks , every other time they are fine. I just feel terrible cause one there is a significant size difference and that my smaller dog is beginning to not want to be inside the house.

I have two dachshunds, mom and sister. My daughter has two also, dad and brother. We moved in together about 6 months ago. We have escalating aggression. Brother has bullied dad for years, but sister won’t tolerate it. Now she seems to be escalating. Dad, who is very passive, is a target for her now, too. She doesn’t want another dog playing with me, sitting by me, near my bed, etc. she even attacked the mom dog…first time ever. In the meantime, brother snarls and growls at her in the house, but will be ok outside with everyone. Sister is becoming more pushy toward brother, outside too. We give them all cbd oil. Supervise closely as possible but we have work to do! If you’ve never had a dachshund, you have no idea!!!! I’m afraid I’ll have to rehome my sister dog. “Raining treats from the heavens” when she looks at brother and dad never worked( 5 weeks of dog trainer advice.)

My problem is, my attacking dog will attack any dog in my home if they get in his space when he’s aggravated. Usually when I’m at the fence talking to my neighbor, if any of my other dogs come to the fence he will attack them. PS my attacking dog loves my neighbor, he’s not trying to protect me, he just don’t want any of my other dogs out at the fence.
He will attack the other dogs if they happen to step on his foot or play with his ball. My other dogs are terrified of him. He’s a frenchie, and he’s insane crazy! I will have to rehome his if I can’t get this under control. I even had a dog training come to my home. Never helped a thing! Wasted money.. I love this dog, but I can’t do this much longer.
Thank you for your video. As soon as my pup turned 6 months he and the 2-year-old dog started fighting. At first, it was around mealtime, then it progresses to space. Now they are completely separate since when they make eye contact, one or the other will growl and then they will go at each other. This has been so stressful since they have gotten along well up until the pup has gotten more mature. I want to wait to neuter him until he's a year... but now I'm wondering if this could be part of the cause. They are both male and I figured that wouldn't cause an issue. Now I just feel stuck and am scared to train/ desensitize sometimes, since anything can be a trigger.
I am in a very similar situation and really feel for you. I have a 8 month old puppy and we live with a housemate and his almost 2 year old British bulldog. We got our puppy desexed over one week ago and have separated the dogs ever since our puppy kept attacking the other dog. We have a trainer coming on the 15th august so we are truly hoping this will help us. They were best friends up until our puppy matured, it’s super disheartening and I have to lose work hours to petsit my puppy right now which is not ideal.

Neutering MAY help, but established behaviors in “adult” dogs take a lot more time to correct.

I have a 4 year old basenji mix female and a 2 year old flat coated retriever mix with chow chow and after my 2 yr old had turned 1 I had to start crate training so they can be away from each other from time to time. I have two female dogs (a mother and daughter) who have hated each other ever since they both went into heat at the same time and there was a new boy dog in the family. However, one of the dogs is also very possessive and will look at her food bowl not eating and growl at other dogs and will pick up toys and go after dogs trying to play with her. I'm having to keep her separated but it's very inconvenient. The two fighters seem to have no times when they like each other.
i have a 5 year old chihuahua dachshund mix and we, two weeks ago just adopted an 8 month old Old English Sheepdog. they got along well for the first 4 days but on day 4, they were getting ready to go outside and the little guy growled at the oes and she attacked him and shook him in her mouth. she hasn’t done anything since and i am keeping them mostly separated while i’m at work and will let them in the same room while i’m home for a little bit just to have them get used to each other. my family is saying we need to rehome her and it’s not going to work because he is scared shitless, when she’s in the room he is visibly shaking and wide eyed. he’s afraid of her. i understand but i’m really hoping we can fix this over time. can someone help please

Lately my 3 year old poodle attacks my 7 year old, her grandma when she has a barf episode. I don’t get it she literally longes at her then gets aggressive with me when I tried correcting her. Pebbles the grandma retreats doesn’t react she goes and hides. I am getting concerned leaving them alone now. What could be happening? Normally I can figure out their behavior like for instance when Bam Bam the 3 year old hides a snack (which I stopped leaving around if I step out).

Same thing's happening with my 2 female dogs, they're not siblings but one of the gets jealous when you give the other one affection. The one who gets attacked then gets aggressive but wong attack dirrectly until the attacker attacks.
Ok my dog (dog a) is new to being around other dogs. He was an only dog for the first year of his life and for the past few months I moved in with my mom who has a few little dogs, dog b(is a small and slow/dumb dog) who stays in my moms room most of the day and causes no problems. My dog is very aggressive towards that dog and I can’t figure out why. These contexts don’t really apply here other than food my dog is very territorial over food but dog b doesn’t get near his food. I learned alot from your video. However I find the example pairs of dogs you use are male female I didn't see any male male dogs. In this situation. I have two male intact dogs that are father and son used to have great relationship but now they actually look for each other when bring walked in a ready to attack mode. There have been times that I would be walking the younger dog and his father wouod get a glimpse or sniff of him and push his way out the door and come running into for the attack without any idea he was coming. It's horrendous . I dont want to give up either dog but I Don't want them to fight to the point one of them ends up dead. I'm not sure I could attemot any of these techniques on my own.

Hi, my dogs usually get on and do not fight. Yesterday they had an aggressive encounter, when I interviened to stop the fight my female went to attack me twice which resulted in my male then attacking the female. I put my female in time out which ended the event. Today my male is on guard around her and two more fights have occurred today. I think My male has lost trust with the female and is now attacking her because of her attacking me. I feel stressed around them now and can't relax. Both dogs are intact, my male is just over 2 yrs old, my female is 15 months old. My male is so soft, caring and loving and has never shown any aggression prior to yesterday and im worried that my females aggressive tendency my ruin his temperament. Should I separate them or just deal with the fighting as it happens. Pls help im so miserable because they usually are good friends.

Thank you for this video. I have a question. We have a 3 dog household, 2 females and 1 male. 2 of them are fixed, except for the younger female (20 months). During her heat, she attacked the older female 2 times. (When she was a puppy, to older one would “bully” her a lot). We separated them and slowly brought them back together. They did fine for almost a week, a few growls here and there, but we had control of the situation. My dad left a chew toy on accident in the backyard and chaos happened. I was sitting at the table when I started hearing growls, I stood up and before I could see them, the younger female was biting the older one. This was a pretty big fight, I therefore a blanket on them, threw cold water, but none worked. At the moment I had guests over, but they weren’t of any help (who understandably were afraid). I tried lifting the hind legs of the younger one, but as soon as she stopped biting the older one would come back to attack and I didn’t have anyone to help me hold the older one. My older brother reached home (the older one is his dog) and started punching my dog (which I don’t think was appropriate, since I told him to hold his dog while I manage mine). The older one was brought to the vet the next morning and had been bitten in the throat area and ears. More context about the dogs: the younger one is usually non reactive to dogs, other animals and humans, while the older one is very reactive towards every animal who isn’t one of the 2 other dogs in the house. She used to kill cats and other small animals before my brother moved in with her. Taking her anywhere outside the house is hard. She resource guards food and toys, while the other 2 dogs don’t. I understand that ny dog bit his dog, but he is telling me to move out with my dog and that my dog needs professional help (my dog has been to obedience school) while his has never met an outside dog without reacting towards it. How can I best handle the situation? Is my dog really the problem here even if she doesn’t react to any other dogs? (We’ve separated them since the fight)
Same with my situation 😢 It is really sad to see my dogs fight. We have 4 dogs in total. 3 males 1 female. The older male which is 7 years old already always insist the fight to the other one which is a 1 year old. Then we have the other male which is the younger one that is also aggressive that also fight. They always "bully" the 1 year old dog. I don't know the reason but it feels like the reason for their fighting is to determine who is the alpha or something like that since we have 3 males. Some sort of competition. Both of them are aggressive but the older one have too much. They also killed a cat before with my female dog... When they fight, (it is always a big fight too and it scares me that one of them could actually die.) It wasn't just a normal fight though since they really won't stop unless they are seriously injured. I do everything like making loud noises, trying to get the other one but no one help me. They said that I should just let them fight cause they will stop on their own. I want to at least change their behavior cause I can't just let them be used to that fighting and I don't want them to hurt other animals. It is exhausting also don't know what to do.
A dog who used to kill cats should be put down in my opinion.What if it decided to kill a child?

I have two dachshunds. One gets aggressive only around us (our attention) and food. I’m thinking it’s that she’s food aggresssive. We control the food. She wants to claim us.
I have two Great Pyrenees (Charlie, 6, and Hakkeyoi, 2). Charlie is my gf's dog, and Hakkeyoi is mine (she had charlie about a year before we met, and hakkeyoi spent the first year and a half of his life going to work with me so a lot of time together). Any time my gf comes into the room, they become aggressive toward each other. They've legitimately fought very aggressively before, to where Charlie inadvertently bit my hand. It's generally Hakkeyoi that initiates with a stiff body language and standing sideways and side-eying Charlie. How should I go about helping them lose their tenseness when gf is around?

My 2-year-old female pitbull gets along great with almost every other boy dog. But if it's another female dog she will almost always become very reactionary and snap at them.
There's nothing that my 2 dogs like to do together. There was always competition between them. They both have very different personalities. They both are females. When it started they both was pregnant, now the one dog had her puppies but they all died, the 2 dogs are still fighting.
Do you have any suggestions for dog aggression towards a cat?

I would like to know if two unfixed male dogs can be socialized…I live in an area that doesn’t have vets around. And I really don’t want to hafto beat my mom’s dog’s head open if he attacks my pitbull again…he learned his lesson with my Tosa Inu mainly because she doesn’t take his shit but the pitbull is not even a year old.

If you haven't been, or aren't willing to work with big strong dogs that have issues...you really have no grounds to speak as an expert on the subject, or give advice. Post videos showing yourself actually using your methods successfully in dangerous situations, or stop arguing with those that do. And no, doing that Zak thing with a Corso PUPPY doesn't count unless you do a follow up 100 pounds later. Treating big strong dogs like babies doesn't work, isn't realistic, and isn't practical. Bitches don't treat the litter like a bunch of fragile butterflies - it wouldn't serve the species. Nature is cruel and unfair (but balanced), and not acknowledging how it works by sugar coating domesticated canine/human relationships is a disservice to the animals we all want better lives for. "Hoping" your dog can be controlled in unpredictable situations is not the same as "knowing YOU can control" your dog in unpredictable situations. Be safe.
