It has been much longer to the point I forgot about this song. It feels too good to hear such a good song after such a long period of shitty music being released.
Agreed! It's been about six years for me. I'm in my late 40's, so I wasn't really part of this scene, but I had somehow stumbled upon this song back then and liked it. Thing is, I lost the bookmark for it at some point, so tonight I couldn't remember the band's name or much of anything beyond "happy". Googling just gave me Pharrell over and over. Finally found it by unearthing an old bookmark backup on an unlabeled thumb drive. (Yay thumb drives!) So, I made it back here and... it makes me happy!

coincidentally, My ex who was long distance showed me The Kooks, and I instantaneously fell in love with them. Yet, It makes me sad because he used to sing me these songs all of the time, and he was from England and oddly resembled Luke. I dunno. It's from happy times. I feel you.

My god... I had completely forgotten about this song. Don't know why the chorus suddenly came to mind but I began to hum it. I had to really rack my brain in order to remember the lyrics (annoying tip-of-the-tongue situation) but once I rediscovered it so many memories came flooding back.
No need to retread those memories here as it's only tangentially related. Needless to say I'm glad the universe decided I needed it back however briefly.

Here in Perú, we have a radio station, "Doble 9" (Double 9), so, they used to play only new english rock and random songs at least two times in the same week and then not anymore. I was lucky hearing and finding this song many years ago.

This bring back so many memories; It’s crazy how time flies, I used to listen this song when I was like 14 at 16 on high school I met this boy who had a lot of band names in his back pack, he didn’t talk to anyone even when everyone’s was interested on him, he got me at “the kooks” written down his backpack, I remember that I asked “do you like them?” and he was like “do you know them?” I saw that emotional eye looking expression and after that the we became close friends, we shared a lot of bands and he teached me how to play the guitar, after time he had to left school for family problems, we were still friends, even we tried to have a band but I had no time because school and mom didn’t let me, he was the only person that ever understoodme and even one time he gifted me “inside in/ inside out” by the kooks... and it’s been years that I don’t saw him I hope he’s doing ok. I know that no one asked me but if you readed this til here thanks I guess.

I heard this song for the first time in Barcelona when I was an Erasmus student in 2012. They had a street concert or something, we went there because one of us was a huge fan. I didn't know about this band and I forgot their name immediately. But the refrain, 'I wanna make you happy', was always in my ears. I could have google it indeed, but I didn't do. Years later (in 2020) I heard this song from someone's random mix (he didn't know the song at all), I got a huge flashback immediately back to my Barcelona experiences. Such a time travel this song caused me! Now I listen this song almost every week! It holds the 'whole memory package' from that semester...
