Scott Hall is not cool 🤦🏽♂️ Jeff Hardy is cool. Wrestling is fake, Scott Hall strutting around like he’s cool doesn’t change that fact. Jeff Hardy made people forget that wrestling was fake, he didn’t go too extreme like that CZW crap and he didn’t flip around too much like Ricochet. He had perfect spots that gave wrestling credibility as a tough sport
Hater, this might be your best piece yet. I've felt this way about professional wrestling since around WM XXX. The problem is we live in a pretty boring, uncool world right now. The young men are a little more fem, and the women on average are not as sexy as they used to be. All masculinity is toxic. If you're an attractive woman, then you're a sellout. There's this sort of movement towards androgyny that seems to be consuming us all. On top of that, there's an obesity epidemic sweeping the land, and no one even wants to talk about it bc fat shaming is a thing. And everyone wants to be different. Why? It's like we've confused diversity and accepting others with "everyone needs to be different". We've become a fat, ugly nation, and it seems there is no going back. Know what I'm saying?
Sorry, Hater, I had to skip the Biden ad at the beginning. I don’t think citizens should be asked to or allowed to pay for a Presidential campaign out of their own pocket. That's what taxes are for. Maybe you can do a video on that. But I let the rest of them run, just for you, pal. Hope you get paid up in this piece.
Guys with charisma, a good look, a cool entrance, and who are good on the mic. Being good in the ring may add a bit, but isn’t what really draws. A cool finisher is better than doing a ton of flips, dives, and kicks.
Why is it always, "compared to the attitude era"? Most wrestlers in the attitude era wouldn't be on top in 80's. Different eras, offer different comparisons. Stone Cold wouldn't be over flipping off the crowd and acting like a heel in the 80's. Not saying this era is good, but enough of the attitude era circle jerk.
what made wrestling mainstream is that it was a relatable real life artform that was cool this is why stone cold vs vince is the biggest/greatest storyline of the 90s and of all time it was a relatable story about a badass who was p!ssed off at his power tripping boss and got to whoop his @ss, people from the 90s saw themselves in and wished they were stone cold this is also why the majority of the fanbase are fat neck bearded nerds, the majority of wrestlers are now nerds and jobbers and the bookers (tony/triple h) are pushing them at the forefront of their companies the cool factor in present wrestling is nonexistent which is a huge reason why its no longer mainstream
Was this a stealth "H8R Outdoors" episode? You're absolutely right, you hinted at it as this is a larger issue in culture in general, not just wrestling. There is this sort of performative pretense that people are maintaining where they just pretend to not acknowledge what everyone fundamentally understands as "cool". It's so tiresome.
The problem is the world has the internet and they know that Brock lesner who looks cool has the social anxiety and looks like a dork in his high school photo and he bagged sable who look like she would never be with a backwoods guy like Brock
Agreed but we all know the internet fandom, dirt sheets and podcast like Jim Cornette tends NOT to know what's cool for various reasons yet they have a loud voice that tries to keep wrestling niche by gatekeeping. Socially awkward, too old and/or being upset with actual kids or teens aka people who know what's cool and modern with parents money to spend. Also these are the types that always tend to like underdogs and people that look like them.
The Hater is right about the men, but the women now are 400 times hotter than the women in the attitude era. Liv Morgan, Jade Cargill and Alexa Bliss are hot. In comparison, Sable, Lita and Trish Stratus are mid.
Even if we were to concede that's your preference, The Hater's point still stands in that their allure/sexuality, be it through feminity or whatever other means, is supressed compared to the Sable/Lita/Trish era. You're not "supposed" to find them attractive, that's demeaning of them as "athletes". Right now, as The Hater said, you can see that Liv is actually somewhat playing into it with the storyline to some success and I would say Cargill's pin stance with the whole hand lick crab pose thing carries some innuendo, but outside of that the women wrestlers of today are facsimiles of the men. Some still express themselves through their costumes, but it's not present in their personas, storylines or behaviour most of the time. NXT roster plays up to it a little bit more, but barely.
