  • Micro-Mark Chop-it. Great Tool for Model Railroading.
In this video I will show you how to/demonstration and step by step guide on using the my new tow the Micro-Mark Chop-it.
This is one of the most useful tools I have for working in wood or plastic strip material. Makes clean, neat, feather-free and accurate cuts, easily. Uses readily available single edge razor blades. Perfect miter cuts are a breeze with the 30, 45 and 60 degree guides included.
An adjustable stop permits the exact duplication of pieces. Excellent for model ship planking, model railroad structures, model pallets, dollhouse furniture and molding plus hundreds of other uses. Comes completely assembled with three blades. Base is 7-1/2 inches x 7-1/2 inches. Cuts material up to 3/32 inches thick.
This is not a paid product review.
    Cheers
    Darren from MRT.

Its looks basically the same design and material as the version from NWSL Chopper #1 with the MDF base, I also have the NWSL chopper #2 with the diecast base & cutting mat inlay which I find gives better cutting accuracy and is more robust than the MDF base version, However, a great advantage with these MDF base version is that when the MDF base becomes worn out after repeated groove fillings , the pivot and handle component can be unbolted and as I did, bolting the pivot / handle component to another base, which I made, using 18mm thick plywood, I bolted a self healing cutting mat to this, a 1mm thick metal bar (straight back fence) which ideally had pre-drilled 6mm holes every 6cm of its length to allow bolt down and a few clamping points which I made from 7cm metal bars and attatched rubber feet for grip , wingnuts & springs.
The resulting new base I made is longer so allowing me to chop duplicate styrene strip of upto 260mm length.
I have seen listed on ebay, pivot / handles from I'm guessing old worn out NWSL #1 choppers, the same idea of salvage / modifacation could apply with this version from the 'Micro-Mark' brand.

Thanks David, there a lots of different versions of this tool out there. I never considered the MDF base being a positive due to it being able to be replaced...That is a great idea. I would love to see some pictures of your creation. modelrailroadtechniques@gmail.com

This thing is the biggest piece of crap. I got one of these recently and absolutely hate it. First the stopper guides are cheap plastic not metal as they appear to be in pictures. The base is some cheap particle board or mdf that isn't very strong. The actual blade arm handle thing has probably 1/8" to 1/4" of play back and forth so it's very hard to make straight cuts. The blade itself will deflect a bit making a cut 90 to the base difficult. For a tool that is suppose to give repeatable cuts it's almost impossible to make multiple pieces the same length. Just pure garbage.

You're not the only one. I have the exact same issues with mine. Complete garbage. I can not get a clean cut to happen repeatable to save my life. Quality is rubbish. Save your money and do not buy this.
