I find it pathetically hilarious to read so many comments from people wanting to sound like knowledgeable musicians/techs by critiquing the guitar's sound or Jon's singing, when the video was obviously recorded on a smartphone or some other portable device. This video was about capturing and sharing an intimate and seemingly impromptu live performance - not about obtaining immaculate sound for ungrateful crybabies and half-witted nerds. Cheers.
I don't know about this singer....going on his " wikipedia", I just realized that he's a fine musician and singer, before joinin' Yes... and, what he does with 'em is fine . I extend my hand Joe
as a stand alone - I think it's good... Steve clearly has lost very few chops... Davison is fine - of course no one replaces Jon Anderson... but THANKS guys for still doing what you do - playing an awesome catalogue of YES...
Don't know what all the fuss is about. I am Jarvis Bonner, and I have received many biting, angry messages about me saying derogatory things about Jon Anderson. I have loved the music of Yes and Jon Anderson for 45 years. I simply expressed my liking for Jon Davison, whose voice I like better than Jon Anderson's. Is it OK if I like oranges and you like bananas? Get a Grip. Chill. Wetton, Davison, Wakeman, Downes, Squire, Howe, and Carl Palmer, or Alan White: I love them all. And don't forget Jon A and his singing with For Him, a Christian group. Love.
I saw Jon in Phoenix 1 year ago. He did a great job. In July 2013 however for the 3 album tour, he was just fantastic. He had grown into his vocal combining Mr. Anderson and more importantly his own. He was no imitation, just very very warm and wonderful. Jon Anderson being top 3 of my all time favs, but if you want to get technical wade through past YES live music on RUclips. Jon Anderson is not always perfect either. He sings sharp when monitor issues arise. Really to pick this apart like that
your entitled to your opinion but honestly yes sounds amazing and i am 26 years old true but I can listen to Fly From here as easily as Tales its all great music to me. Cant wait for a new album. Why post if all you wanna say is something negative I wont change your opinion as you cant change mind.
well, the battle always goes on...esp. regarding the replacement singers... I am enjoying a fantasy for 2014... there will be another Cruise from the Edge featuring the core YES players.... but there will also be a British PROG cruise that Jon Anderson will be participating in .... they both end up in the Bahamas, and somehow I see the basis for some cruise ship disaster movie arising out of this!
can u believe these posts? Talk about the need to criticize. Wow. I guess these guys must be better than Howe and Davison, huh? Where's your album, I wanna hear it badly.Flat notes and warped necks...be serious! Not only are u negative, you have a tin ear! And missing the whole point of live music.
If a singer is 'flat', it means he doesn't make the music come alive - in spite of 'the notes' all being there. It has to do with persona, credibility, emotion. There's a lot of music *in between* the notes, a lot of life *outside* the right frequencies. I guess it isn't easy for this Jon D. to acquire the necessary self-confidence while everyone expects him to impersonate someone he isn't. His advantage (name, looks, voice) works against him in this respect. He'll always be "not Jon A.".
This is my first ever comment on youtube and yet I had this account for several years. I need to tell you that you are an extremist... in the bad way of being it. What you want to say is you preferred Jon and that I can understand. However you say that Davidson sounds "this" bad is so meaningless... just be glad you can hear a song that has been composed in 73 in 2013...
I tend to agree with Jacques. Too many pseudo experts. I know people are entitled to their opinions but if you don't like it just say 'not for me'. Don't insult the performance and other people's comments. Keep things civil then we all get along right?
Jon's sitting down. Harder to get good breath control as the diaphragm's pushed on by your abdominal organs. Still, I believe Jon "gets it". Benoit didn't, he was just a mime, sadly.
I think Howe sounds great, but while Jon Davison hits every note, but he sounds a bit flat in this song. He's not putting any power behind singing the way Jon Anderson ors.but his tone can't really touch Jon Anderson's.
Don't think that's fret buzz. He's probably using a piezo pickup - they sound horrible like that and make every note sound like a thin buzzy twang. Piezos are convenient and solve technical problems of amplifying an acoustic, but the tone is absolute shit.
PutItAway101 I think he's either not muffing the way he wants to , or his neck is slightly bent from travel . Even if you'er young . you'er not free from the weary of travel .
I really think he sounds bad. Saying I should be glad to hear a song in 2013 from 73 is truly meaningless. Yes sounds awful in general and it's really sad that they have gone so far down hill. I said very little and you call that extreme. I wonder why you can't tolerate a negative opinion

Jacques D thank you
some people just dont get it!
Jon is great. Seen Yes twice in the past year. My only regret is that I've only seen them twice in the past year.
Steve Howe, master guitarist.
Guitar Overkill he will be forever.
This was really beautiful, Steve always soothes my mood
One of the most amazing guitarists of our time!!!

Sounds great to me--don't see where any negativity may come from (?)

The Cryptkeeper lives!

¡Magistral!
In a musical context, flat means low pitch (not in tune). Feel free to use it as an adjective, but expect confusion.
Is that Steven Wilson singing there? :D
haha
You're blind if you think that I wrote that Jon Davison is flat.

Dennis Kinch hi Dennis.Agreed.I've been a guitar player for 52 years and NO ONE can match Steve Howe 😉
Those who Can Do "DO" The rest just whinge, Moan and get Jealous, by trying to find fault. Bunch of Wankers.

I didn't know this song was so difficult to sing
Jon's sitting down. Harder to get good breath control as the diaphragm's pushed on by your abdominal organs. Still, I believe Jon "gets it". Benoit didn't, he was just a mime, sadly.

He's hitting the notes, but his singing's flat - he's not really conveying the emotion of the song.
Either his neck is warped , or steve's fretting out an awful lot , not good.
Don't think that's fret buzz. He's probably using a piezo pickup - they sound horrible like that and make every note sound like a thin buzzy twang. Piezos are convenient and solve technical problems of amplifying an acoustic, but the tone is absolute shit.

Playing nylon strings might have resolved this buzzy twang, no?
Byron Gordon Na , its the string deadened by way of finger or fret .
Byron Gordon Nylon strings sound just as shit with piezo pickups.
Why are you so bitter?Would you have rather gone on that cruise with Justin Bieber????

Awful. The notes without the soul.
This is awful, I wasn't expecting Jon to sound this bad
