  • SPENT $0, THEN $250 | ANTIQUE VINTAGE RESELLING | FREE STUFF TOO!
Take the long way home! Wandering back from the Allegan Antiques Market in Michigan, we stumble across a vintage trash pile, a Goodwill and a surprise off-day estate sale, with finds priced from wholesale to thrift to…well, free!
This is a day of discovery and fun, getting off the interstate and letting random reseller opportunities take us on a journey. The first stop is a literal junk pile, heaped by the road in anticipation of fall cleanup day pickup. We pick up a useful show display and check out some groovy chairs before we head on down the road.
Next, a Goodwill appears in a small town center. Will it have enough good old stuff to make me want to go back to heavy thrifting, or will I wish I’d dug deeper through the free pile?
The real surprise, though, is a stray, seemingly leftover estate sale sign, which we follow off the road on a hunch. Michigan has sales on random weekdays, what good fortune when we’ve just sold thousands at a show and need to restock! This estate on the stately town park is full of fun finds…come with me while we ferret out all the bargains!
Here are some of the things we dug out of junk piles, thrift stores and an old house in this video:
Modernist chairs, coat rack, Lladro Christmas plate, Hickory Farms tumblers, Fostoria Heirloom bowl, Blenko pitcher, Fenton canister, Myott and Sebring china, Petoskey stone, Longaberger rule, 1960s patio furniture, vintage bikes, toboggan, pottery wheel, wicker rocker, children’s books, rotary phone, Lane miniature test, WWII composition dolls, dog decanter, siesta bookends, Weller rose vase, silhouettes, Sebastian miniature, Tonka fire hydrant nozzle, Delft mini windmill, Pilchuck glass bowl, Nippon exotic bird relish, Glamour Girl coaster, Disney ephemera, Sommerso glass, cello, Wedgwood Queensware, Victorian Imperial teapot, boho pitcher, Morgantown cocktail set, vintage barware, 45’s, doll furniture, miniature sewing machines, vintage clothes, 1970s turntable, Costa Rican hand painted cart box, Fairbo wool blanket, afghans, Scout handbook, etc.

In my hometown, the miniature cedar hope chests were congratulations gifts from furniture stores in the 1960's & 1970's for new high school graduates. Usually Lane. You had to go into the furniture stores to register, verify your high school graduation and pick up your little cedar chest gift.

    George,
    speaking of Petoskey stones,
you're right about one thing Regarding these phenomenal rocks, we Michiganders take them seriously!
Here's a little trivia for you:
'The Petoskey stone is fossilized pre-historic coral fossilized rugose coral, Hexagonaria percarinata. Distinguishable by its unique exoskeleton structure, a Petoskey stone consists of tightly packed, six-sided corallites, which are the skeletons of the once-living coral polyps.'
Considering these salt water sea creatures lived 300+ million years ago and are still findable today
    in fossilized rock form
in many of our overly-abundant fresh water lakes,
is nothing short of a gift from God. So, they are not only funny little shapes formed from water passing over it's surface. 😆
    Best wishes from
    a true Michigan Petraphile
    and big fan of yours!

What a great estate sale! Yes we are lucky in Michigan to have estates sales start on any day of the week. The Petoskey stone has imprints of coral from a “bazillion” years ago. It shows its pattern when wet and people polish them to bring out that pattern. We have lots of them on our beach between Traverse City and Petoskey. Every spring we get a new supply as a result of winter storms and ice on Lake Michigan. All the best, “9a”

I do not know which is my favorite that you found along highways & byways!!! The clothes rack is kinda towards the top, can't beat the price and usefulness! But at the other side of the spectrum, the Fostoria piece is just gorgeous and 🤑 such a deal you got!!!
Always a blast riding and shopping along with you!

Resellers have been doing an outstanding job generating interest in thrifting and reselling. Do you purchase for resale any items that are damaged? How do you mark the and how do you settle on a price?

I usually avoid as-is items unless they're rather unusual or part of a set. I try to always make note of their flaws and I usually price at least 20% below "perfect" prices

Hey George! There looked like one of the old rocker sewing accessories chairs in that trash pile. I've seen those little things bring more than I ever imagined they would. That aluminium patio set had super-good prices on it. I would've been very tempted. What was the red and brass cylinder thing at the bookends? It caught my eye, and I wondered what it was. I actually like that Tonka fire hydrant. Loved the glamour girl dish. That painted cart is fantastic. That looked like a fun estate sale. Thanks for the take-along!!!
Did you get the email about the Dr. Pepper restaurant card and piece I'm looking for? I never know if they go through to you...

The Indianapolis owned Goodwills send so much stuff to their online portion. Its nearly impossible to find much of interest anymore.

I know this video is 2 years old, but I just have to say, that suit at 24:39 is not a knit! It's very clearly woven fabric. Well, you did say you're not a rag picker, so...

I’m so excited you’re going to see Laura Caldwell. I love watching her , her excitement when she is shopping is contagious. Laura has that love for mid century modern and the style you mentioned. I started reading more about it.
She’s in Oregon shops in Washington State your neck of the woods. Items found in Northeast are fabulous, so different but so cool. She and her hubby just bought a new Mid Century Modern Home. Can’t wait to see her decorate it.
I’m excited and rambling, thank you George. Enjoyed the weekend with you and Xeno.

Hi George! I saw that you had a good time at Mitsy's :-) TY for posting, great video. May I ask you something? I don't mean to be rude. Could you while filming at an estate sale spend more time filming all around, I mean also the "stuff" you are not interested in? TY for your time :-)

Hi, Jacqueline! I'm planning to do that on my other channel in the live broadcasts, it's a little hard for pre-recorded ones because there'd be too much dead space

Perfect murder plot: "He/she had a head wound, so I put a tourniquet heround His/her neck, as they explain in this book". Not guilty.
