The name Mamas and Papas came from the Hell's Angels. They were a fantastic group in the 60s. Great Harmony. California, particularly during that time, was the place to be.
You went full hippie on us, with the arms swaying in the air! You've got to hear (Mama) Cass Eliot singing lead or on one her songs. She had that gorgeous, pure voice like Whitney Houston and Karen Carpenter.

Corinne McKay according to pretty much every source I’ve seen it’s ‘pretend’. Wikipedia says ‘Michelle Phillips wrote the lyrics, "Well, I got down on my knees, and I pretend to pray," but Cass Elliot had been singing "I began to pray" until corrected by Phillips when they were touring. She sang "began" on the original recording.’ The source for that claim being this ruclips.net/video/lZVay1RYazI/видео.html video.

"I Saw Her Again" by this band has some of the most incredible harmony vocals ever put on a record,a must listen, at very high volume. The song is about love affairs goin' on between the band members, before similar things happened in Heart and Fleetwood Mac. Everyone out there should check it out!
Their story is crazy, Michelle was married to John and sleeping with Denny, while Cass asked Denny to marry her and was denied. Then John's story went really dark in later years.
This song was from ‘67ish, and at the time, teens from across the country wanted to go to Cali. A lot of college drop outs as well. They all went to San Francisco to Haight-ashbury area. There were MANY songs written about this phenomena. A lot of these kids were run always who later became drug addicts and pan handlers after hitch hiking all the way there! But this was from the “Flower Children” period, you know, Peace and Love..........BTW, Scooby and his friends were designed to look like the Mamas and Papas!!!!!

One of the most beautiful romantic songs of all time and Roberta's voice is flawless
Agree! Very moving song❤
Many people looked and dressed like them in the 60s...the era of peace and love....and you have to wonder what kids several decades from now will think about the way people dress now....think about it for a minute....lol. Great that you try a big range of music. Momma Cass died at a young age...sad because she could sing. That’s the kind of music many people listened to on our AM radios...back then
Mama Cass was ruthlessly made fun of due to her weight. In some ways, that hasn’t changed...Ann Wilson from Heart and Lizzo now.....
Yup... Fat men are sweet, jolly, strong and funny and fat women are dirty, lazy hogs... 😡
Been feeling and hearing that crap ALL my life.
Pastor Of Muppets and people who call Patti Smith ugly....one of the kindest most talented women in rock ever....
Adirondack Pixie Simply put... It's the ignorance inside them. They don't have the ability to understand, or even the clarity of pure beauty comes in all forms. I feel truly sad for imagine all they've missed in their boxed in minds. 🙏 for them. 🤷♀️
@laura kali - Carnie Wilson of Wilson Phillips too...
leeuwin1962 what the hell? There are many people who are vile and Lizzo is not one of them by any stretch of the imagination. You may not like how free she is but that doesn’t make her a bad person.
They ask Michelle what she thought when she looked in a mirror, she replied, Lucky.
I wish I would have seen this when everyone else did!! First I agree with everyone else. You're a class act for respecting Mama Cass, and you don't even know it...and idk about anyone else, but this is one of those songs I'll never forget hearing for the first time. I was just a kid, but it blew my mind. Keep up the great work as always!! 🕊️💖
"I Saw Her Again" by this band has some of the most incredible harmony vocals ever put on a record,a must listen, at very high volume. The song is about love affairs goin' on between the band members, before similar things happened in Heart and Fleetwood Mac. Everyone out there should check it out!
If you liked this you should listen to Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit.
Truth! I can't thumbsup this comment enough!!!
Great suggestion!
To Sir, With Love is a great song too.
White Rabbit is an awesome choice!!
oooo, yes, yes please!!!
I'm watching your reaction to this again after you initially posted it two years ago. Still love it! 😊❤
One of the most popular groups of the 60s.
It's so wholesome and makes me so happy seeing y'all being open to different times and cultures, and vibing with these oldies and classic rock and not just shrugging off your shoulder. Good music is good music, no matter the genre. Love it
Young man, you have me smiling the entire song. You really got it goin on!
California Dreaming is my JAM! I have always loved this song. Glad he appreciates it 🙂
Thx for popping this old band in the forefront...they popped out many hits back in the day.
You HAVE to listen to A piece of my heart by Janis Joplin!
She is the 60s greatest artists. She Died too soon but her music is unbelievable and will always be the greatest!
And Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival.
She screams. Not the 60s I like. Give me harmony and ballads and musical instruments... The drugged up wasted screaming was not music
@@terrimobley6067 Shut the fuck up then. Not your cup of tea? Fine. But DO NOT trash somebody for expressing themselves through song in a way you deem 'trash'.
Janis Joplin is a must, must “Piece of my Heart”!!!
Summer time
I'll give him an A for admitting he never heard this song before, even tho he's about 60 years behind the times. One of the top 10 greatest rock songs of all time.
I’m so glad I found your channel 😃 I love that young people today are discovering and enjoying the oldies.
Oh Tim, you are so funny and so adorable! Bring me lots of joy as you react to music and let us enjoy it with you!
Mamas and Papas had some of the best harmonies in history.
Suggestion: "The Boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel. Try it.
THIS. PLEASE. Song writing at its finest.
Would love to see this reviewed!
For real. The Boxer is amazing! Love Simon and Garfunkel.
Hell yes!!!
The only band in the 60s that people remember the women more than the men.😁
These young men's personalities are almost perfect. A reflection of their great parents. They did a great job raising you boys, they have to be extremely proud
This was one of my most favorite songs. I’m so glad ur listening to this beautiful song.
I'd like to see your reaction to Roberta Flack's, Killing me Softly. Even the Fugees version is excellent.
Don't love the Fugee's cover compared to Ms. Flack, but...it has its merits. At least it's Lauryn Hill.
Yes please, Roberta Flack!
omg that would be amazing!
Then Al B Sure
Thank you for appreciating some a classic song. It was written in 1965 and it's one of my all time favorites.
This is my favorite song by them. I love that you are open to many different types of music and I love to see your reaction!!
Oh hell YEAH! The harmonies and sheer production value is legendary! More M&P's!
Another great definitive California song: "Ventura Highway" by America. Would love to see your reaction.
Amen! One of my favs!
Sister Golden Hair by America rocks also!
👍
America - another underated and all but forgotten group.
My favorite America song! ❤️
OMG yes............I love the opening guitar solo.
You should check out Mama Cass (second left) as they start to perform, she has some awesome songs and she was the star of the group - Make Your own Kind of Music is just awesome
I love your videos! It's so funny to watch 21 one year olds discovering these songs. Plus it's also really cool to see how you appreciate so many different styles. Very smart.
OMG! One of my favorite reactions to a song! LMAO-Love it! ❤️🙏
One of the most haunting songs ever recorded. Nice to see it's still got some power to it.
It is so refreshing to have the music of my generation still growing and captivating people - it’s timeless - I love this channel- thank you
Iconic vocals of Mama Cass Elliot make this song so powerful. She had perfect pitch
One guitar and four voices from heaven. Awesome.
This was released in 1965. React to "This is Dedicated to the One I love". Mamas and Papas were HUGE in the mid to late 60's.
A huge favorite of mine! This is yet another CLASSIC! 😁👍
The Mama's and the Papa's were another fine group.
They were a folk group and many had quirky names back then.
A GREAT one for singing all parts at the TOP of your lungs!
There were LOTS of great groups and bands before you were born Sweetheart. You haven't even scratched the surface please, and California Dreamin was released in December 8, 1965.and one of my 45s (small hard vinyl.)
Hippie music really, but still GREAT! 😁👍
There’s actually a Scooby doo episode where they meet Mama Cass Elliot.
Nancy Prevost it’s probably here on RUclips! 😆
Yeah!!! I saw it!!!!
There's what? I'll have to look for it.
I gotta see that
Ok I know the dance moves are easy to make fun of and a such a stereotype but when you hear the music they were dancing to....that's the exact right moves to make 😂
The best song ever. Always had been my favourite song . You guys have so many treats in store
