I must know.... what is that machine behind you on the Commodore Pet table? It has a sloped front and sits right in front of the crate you have the bigger Pet on?
Not sure how big of an issue it is, but it seems like hand sanitizer and old plastic could run you into an issue. Might be worth some time to investigate to save some pain later.
Neil, I believe your museum should eventually sell computers, consoles and games to the public. I realize it’s a museum, but just imagine - someone visits the Cave for the day and enjoys playing games on the Amiga, and they decide they want to buy one. You could then have a small stock of refurbished Amigas out back ready to sell, including software. You could also offer computer repair and upgrade services for retro machines also. This would be a great way to bring in additional income for the Cave. Please consider this idea! It would be an explosive money maker!
So much for John Hancock's video game museum...this sets the bar quite high for him. John Hancock...keep dreaming as you'll never come close to what RMC has accomplished.
That was an absolute DELIGHT to watch. It's like watching an old friend succeed at achieving their dreams, and it's an amazing feeling. Congrats!... and when the time is right I'll be there to drink all of your coffee and play a lot of DOOM ^_^
I loved that it snowed. What better way to nail home that nostalgia than to be cooped up inside from winter weather with all these retro games to play!
I can't travel further than my pharmacy any more, so I would love to visit virtually, if that was ever a possibility. Just a sort-of 3D walkthrough wouls be lovely.
Really amazed by the work, which was done to get so far. I'm pretty sure, that all this wouldn't be possible without all the friends and family. So, congratulations guys, not only to Neal, but also to all of you! This place is on my list of places to visit and as soon as it will be possible to freely move around the world again, I'll definitely will come by ;)
This room you made is soo awesome and nostalgic. A lot of work go's into this alone for preparing and keeping the machines running 😅 Looking forward to that arcade repair video 🙌
That’s a good idea. An official leaderboard, and even dedicated competition days if it becomes popular enough. It could become the ‘Twin Galaxies’ of retro gaming! Ok, maybe a bit ambitious. But no harm in aiming high...lol
If you build it, they will come. So happy for you mate. Feel like I've been on the whole journey, just without doing any work. The best kind. Cheers to The Cave!
Keeping the Galaxians machine working will be a labour of love, I have several Galaxian boards here and they nearly always want something doing to them.
Neil you are such a credit to the retro community, congratulations on a successful opening. You and everyone that has helped bring the exhibition to the public should feel incredibly proud. I look back on the now retro years as some of happiest memories. To see so many of them on-screen again and available to for people to experience again or new folk to discover is simply fantastic. Well done.
Thank you Neil for your effort on this endeavour. And thanks for all the supporters. It will be a wonderful place to share experience and loads of fun. Greetings from Brazil.
It was a really fantastic launch day Neil, great fun and wonderful to talk to everyone. It was quite magic when it started snowing and we were all inside enjoying bomberman. Good times indeed. Really looking forward to reading the cave guide and more people visiting.
So excited that everything is coming together in the Cave and never more disappointed that I live on another continent. Seeing everyone gathered together, playing games and just socializing, reminded me back when I first got my Amiga 500. I was in the US Air Force, stationed in South Korea. My boss and several other guys I worked with all had Amiga 500s and we would often trade games and play computer games together on the weekends. Looking forwards to the Galaxian repair video, as I have been gifted a broken one and haven't had the opportunity to turn it on yet.
Sterling work! Anything that extends the enjoyment of these classic systems is great but you’ve gone so far over that, it’s beautiful. Long may it last. :)
I really hope you all get the recognition you deserve for this wonderful project. It brings back so many good memories for us oldies and will generate good will and interest from the newer generation. You all should be very proud! Thank you for all the hard work.
I am so glad the passion, dedication, and nostalgia were appreciated by all. A mere few hiccups not a worry at all, its all part of the retro experience. Love your hard work Neil, and your dedicated helpers along the way. I am so proud of what you've achieved. G'day from Perth, Australia.
Absolutely fantastic effort by you and the team at RMC! This is such a treasure to the retro computer community, Neil. The attention to detail, self-reflection and determination to cement retro computing into the Zeitgeist of young and old is palpable. Kudos!
Great to see it finished Neil! Congratulations! There is finally a direct flight to London from Dresden again, so next year we hopefully come visit UK (if _the situation_ allows), so they please, put instruction on how best to get to Stroud from London. Given there is no signalling failure on the track. :D
Just a little tip already for when you open for public. Little snacks without sugar or so might be very considered for those with sugar related issues. Looking great, can't wait to visit one day!
What a giant effort of all participants. My greatest respect for doing such a thing in these dark times. The world would be a better place if we had more people like you. My best wishes and all the luck for you, your family and your friends. 💯👍 I hope I have the opportunity to visit this place one time.
Seeing people in the space you've so lovingly put time, effort and passion in to puts a large smile on my face. Looking forward to the time you're letting in "the general public" :) Absolute privilege to get to see this from start to finish, thanks for all the work.
I'm looking forward to making the 3 mile journey to visit the cave one day, can't believe it's so close to me, I've cycled past it along the canal path so many times over the years and didn't know what the walls contained. I might have a few small retro gaming things to add to The Cave if they're wanted, and perhaps could lend you my complete Tomytronic 3D collection for a cabinet display, I have all 7 versions plus the Tandy clone of Stereo Skyfighters.
Followed the new Cave series from the start, and I am so so pleased for you all that it went nearly without a hitch... I HAVE to come over from Malta to visit that cave!
Amazing job, Neil and everyone that pitched in the efforts to make this magical place happen! Congratulations!!! Great to see it all coming together! Brought a tear, I'll admit. Also good to see Mark with what appears to be a new set of tools! hehehe
Simply amazing job. Congratulations on the successful opening Neil. You've very obviously put a herculean amount of work into this. Congrats to everyone else that helped along the way!
Neil, just to see what you are on the very brink of achieving is testament to your endless commitment. In the space of 18 months, you have gone from talking to us from your private cave to opening OUR public cave. I've said it before .. ONE DAY ... I will make it over when it's easier to travel. In the meantime ... good luck and v happy you could enjoy the opening events mate. You created a monster, and long may it live. You deserve everything. EDIT: Do I recall that the computing museum is in Swindon somewhere? You may well be on your way to showing them up from day 1. Very well done.
I really like how this whole thing has been built on passion from everybody no matter what contribution they made. Always like seeing Richard and Mark, I feel like it is getting the 'big guns' in, not that Neil isn't an expert and about a million times more knowledgeable and skillful than me, it just feels like the full team is in. P.s. seeing Richard's face when it worked was worth the video alone.
Oh boy was that good, watching brings back so many childhood memories. The Cave is now officially on my bucket list for a visit. Well done Neil. My only itys bitsy criticism is that I nearly always wish your videos were a little longer. I'll now sign up at a official cave dweller.
I'm so glad you had a really good opening day. It just shows you that all your hard work has paid off. I certainly hope to be able to visit in the future if I'm down in your area. Well done and congratulations to you and all those who helped out
How awesome to see you all guys there! Great watching all the stuff being used and enjoyed again. I wish I will have a chance to visit the cave one day.
We need to get you more subs on RUclips.. what you have done is make something I can take my son and show what I played as a kid and show what was out there from the 90s, 80s and early .. great work
It looks fantastic! Truly a labour of love. It looked like there was a great, low-key and relaxed atmosphere. It’s a long way away from Australia, but I’d love to visit one day. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve managed to achieve. 👍
Thrilled the event went so well Neil. I can't wait to visit the cave myself. I am only in Nailsworth down the road, so being so close I watched the guests with envy
Excellent effort and a wonderful collection and resource for gaming history. Can't imagine how this will work for kids born now in 30 years time. Reminiscing about the 'apps' they had on their iphones maybe? 'Who remembers Angry Birds and Candy Crush?' :)
I just watched the part about the guide books, and the first thing that popped into my head was how great it would be if you had an archive of these online. For those of us who can't make it to the actual cave, the guides alone could be a fantastic experience.
@@TheRetroCollective I was just going to ask if we could maybe buy printed copies in the post. I’d love to do that. Really enjoyed the video anyway. Thanks!
I have to say this was such a good-feel watch after all the building the cave videos. Obviously you had a great night in the cave.. I really hope I'll be able to visit some day!
Congrats! When dealing with old equipment being used all day, some minor issues will occur. It will find all the weak points in those systems so that they can be more reliable.
The Cave looks incredible, congratulations on crossing a goalpost on this amazing space! Sidebar as a US resident, I'm quite jealous of the option for an 1100-count bag of PG Tips! I've only encountered 80-count boxes in my shopping over here.

Just to let you know that I'm organizing a bus/plane/bus full of retro-enthusiast from Italy 😂🥂
I loved that it snowed. What better way to nail home that nostalgia than to be cooped up inside from winter weather with all these retro games to play!
At least one out-of-order sign makes for an authentic experience

They can use 360 Cameras for that, and live stream it during the events.
