You don't really see him much 'cos of his lack of self esteem. When he formed the band he wanted to write the music but he wanted the others to play it because he didn't really want to be acknowledged... I feel so sorry for him being depressed, I wish he could be happy.
I had the great fortune and pleasure to meet Tuomas and speak with him a few nights ago, and I have to say he is one of the most down-to-earth and humble people I have seen. He's so amazing. I got to talk with Marco as well, and I only met with Empuu and Jukka. All in all, it was an amazing night to be sure :)
He may have a low self-esteem, but I don't believe he's depressed. But he's very critical of himself and he doesn't like the publicity thing either. :)
Gah! Of course Tuomas' lyrics aren't perfect, because no one is perfect, but they're sure as hell close! I love his lyrics, they're the best! As far as depression goes, I think it's safe to say that everyone in Nightwish was depressed at some point. Especially in the 2000's, I feel like that's where things started to break for them. They're a great band and I love them all dearly, but I understand how they could get depressed - "a widowed writer torn apart by chains of hell" - in his words.
I didn't know that he formed the band. It's strange cause I never saw him. I really started likeing nightwish, and I really appreciate the culture of finland,sweden,norway and all these countries. I really want to live some day in finnland
The other thing I like, is the fact that the interviewer is dutch and he is finnish, and yet the interview is english. I was expecting finnish. So i am pleased as an englishman to be able to listen to what he has to say and not need an interpreter. ^_^
Metallica has something in them which is breathtaking. I listened to Sonata Arctica, Nightwish and even Iron Maiden at one point or another, but when Metallica, James, came and sang, I really disliked them. Then when I got my illness, I listened to them again, and I was hooked. Metallica is my absolute, most favorite band out there today, and I don't think that'll change.
I know, I meant that the Dutch speak Dutch and the Fins speak Finnish... but they use English to talk to each other ^_^ I can imagine it is. Like Finnish is weird to me. Tuomas has a good sounding voice, I think.
Nah it's ok, it's not easy figuring out another language sometimes. Yeah I know what you mean. A few of our guildies on WoW are Dutch so they are thinking Dutch but typing English. A friend of mine in Finland always swears and all that in Finnish while we are talking. Hilarious! It's good that he's actually trying, mind you ^_^
I don't see why. People are always praising his lyric writing but I've always found them good at best, and a lot of it is more mediocre and some of it reverts to downright whining. He's a good composer, and an okay keyboardist but he is MASSIVELY overrated. He did craft 3 great power metal albums, but that's about all I can give him.
