React allowed me to leave the service industry after a decade and a half and become a developer that works remotely from anywhere in the world. When I saw this documentary I knew I had to watch it to know more about the history of something that so drastically changed my life. Without React I wouldn't be here, so thanks to everyone that made it happen. This journey is not over yet, there's much more to come, and I'm very excited to be a part of it.
Iconic 😂🤣.. An emotional movie for software developers😂. People ask me for my top 10 movies this year. It is React Documentary, topping the charts😂🤣🤣. I just love Software development. It's a different & interesting world.
I remember I used to work in Technical support department and was very unhappy with what I was doing. Always wanted to go for frontend but scared to death with coding. One day, I decided to start learning front end development from scratch and came across this React Library. The minute I started looking into it, I fell in love with the library. Its been 4 years now , I am senior React developer. Not gonna look back. Thank you so much React for changing my life ....
To everyone involved: Thank you. There are many amazing things to like about this documentary, but one that strikes me most, is how different people and personalities are fundamental for every step of a success story. There's no React without the lone wolf, but neither without the first internal promoter, internal champion, internal articulator, leadership that allows it to bloom, external customer, on and on...
What's to be proud of? Hooks which behave differently each time you use them together? Little nuances you have to constantly remember just not to introduce a silly error? There have long been alternatives that are 10x faster and easier to work with, that require less than a week to learn entirely and even perform twice as fast in the browser. React is a relic and should be treated as such.
As a (open source) software engineer myself, the experience the React team had is what every developers hopes to achieve. Most open source projects are developed in the hope to ease the development of other applications, to improve them, to build a community around it and to build something together with people who have (developed) a passion for it. This project and team efforts shows that thinking outside of the box is the way to be different, gain attention eventually and get the well-deserved credit for it. I genuinely am happy for the team and their accomplishments that they've achieved over the past years. React has became a top-tier framework that offers everything we developers need in our daily life of development.

This documentary literally brought tears in my eye. I owe my whole career to React. Was a C++ developer, but then somehow got into Production Support. I was stuck their for 5+ years including a Job loss during recession. Decided to become a developer again, as was trying a lot of thing like Windows app in HTML, CSS and JS. iPhone app with Swift. But one day in the big Tech company where i was working, someone saw React in my resume and never had to look back. Most people at the company were Java developer. Started doing small projects from 2016 onwards and quite good in React. At around 2017, the demand of React was huge, as it's today. But very few people knew it and so i got completed into React projects for the companies. After working in React from sort of starting, now i don't do development anymore. But teaching the next generation about thi awesome library of React, which changed the trajectory of my career. 😀
Thanks to React i became an Associate Architect, RUclipsr(TWD- Nabendu Biswas), Author(5 books - GatsbyJS , React Firebase and MERN) and now a full time ReactJS teacher
The story surrounding React and its birth really hits different I think. I got a similar feeling watching the GraphQL documentary. It seems like Facebook was (and probably still is) a great place to bring great minds together and push new ideas forward. Everyone really seems so united to create something amazing together. React definitely changed my career and for that I will be forever grateful! Great documentary. ❤

Loved this! I was in the second semester of my freshman year in 2020 Feb when one of my dorm mate suggested me to try learning React js. Covid happened and we came back home. I dedicated my entire days learning HTML CSS and then JS and finally React. One at a time, building small projects. Today I am the Tech Lead of that startup (small team of 7) which is a bootstraped profitable one. Being in my freshman year, I didnt see this coming. I owe my career head-start to React! After working on Angular for many years, when React was introduced to me, I was one of those who thought it a crap. I admit it! But when I created my first component, I saw the difference in number of lines I had to write in React vs Angular for same thing! The performance of page on DOM was clearly visible! This makes me think about all the technologies that could have happened but have been pushed down to whatever reason. Pretty scary to think about and important to reflect on, especially for leaders in the industry. I have seen big leaders have a very close minded approach to tech, and it's everyone's responsiblity to detect those people and make a push against their rudimentary ideas. Rock on React!
Subbing, watching, liking and commenting - DarkViperAu mention you guys in his Rambles and how Theo (who is such a tool) backstabbed you by stealing your content and and claiming "fair use" by "reacting" to it. I despise people like that and your content is professional as was your demeanour toward Theo and his actions. Bravo!
Forget what that stupid person did to this video for a little bit of fame and money. This is an awesome and well made documentary with a lot of interesting facts. I appreciate your hard work. I came here from DarkViperAU's video, this is really helpful as I'm currently studying React
Great to see David Nolen and hear the contribution he made to bringing attention to React. I was in the cljs community at the time and heard of it through David. It was very idiomatic with how ClojureScript’s persistent data structures manage state. The performance impact on rendering they bring to React, all it has to do is compare pointers/refs to know if anything changed. Chef’s kiss.
Absolutely awesome job on this documentary! And of course, huge thanks to all the people who had a hand in making React the best JS UI library that it is today. React was pivotal in my career as a software engineer and made me love this career so much more. Again, thank you!
It's actually a very impressive documentary. I want to thank all the people who participated in REACT to get here. When REACT was first announced there was some criticism that we thought was due to the way in which RACT JS was released.
So much joy watching this. One of the most important thinks didn’t get the attention it deserves. React was the first JS library I used and was wow it has been really fun using it! That’s the reason I never wanted to even look at something different. ❤
Really enjoyed it. Love React. As an Android dev with Java / Kotlin background, React took me only a month to learn enough to publish my first prod app on Heroku, a fairly complex one. Kudos to the team.
I remember being the first person advocating React in my former company as a working student. This resulted in so many great opportunities in my career and made me a better engineer. Thanks to the whole React team for their passion and dedication!
What an incredibly interesting video! I brought React to my very first job early 2015, just before the first conference happened. I immediately loved the concepts, remember that Netflix loves React post, and seeing Jing Chen here really brings back so many memories because I absolutely loved the ideas behind Flux, and still do. It became my career! I brought React to two companies in Belgium before getting the surprise opportunity to work at Facebook myself. See Dan Abramov have dinner a few tables over in Rathbone. Talk to React core people in bootcamp in MPK. I no longer work at FB but still use React daily, coming up on 10 years now, so I can only be thankful and happy to have made the jump relatively early! Thanks for the documentary!!
The production quality of this documentary is incredible 😮 it’s also really fun to watch and learn more about the earlier period of React before I even thought about becoming a software developer.
here after the controversy over the guy who re-uploaded this vid. I think the guy (despites his crappy attitude afterwards) did more good than harm. Anyway, great documentary. Blessings

Thank you for this beautiful documentary, interesting to see all the highs and lows and its good for newer devs to get context of how we got where we are, personally I didn't think about how Facebook has its own culture from the open source community which affects things. I'm now looking forward to a documentary about Angular, maybe next year since a lot of changes are planned this year. It will be a hectic one because Angular has been through a lot.
Cool documentary! Thank you 😊 I’m just now entering tech industry via internship at a startup, switching careers from an unrelated field of aviation and excited to continue to use React. Thank you for this great technology.
I was very excited for this documentary to come out, I felt so emotional by the end of it. This is by far the most valuable documentary for the entire Dev Community.

We appreciate you coming to our little corner of the internet! 🙏
Here from DarkViperAU's recent vid. Good job on the documentary and glad to see your channel growing!
This documentary was well worth the wait. I can see why you took so long to post it on RUclips. You just can’t rush a great story.
I remember being the first person advocating React in my former company as a working student. This resulted in so many great opportunities in my career and made me a better engineer. Thanks to the whole React team for their passion and dedication!
well done IDA !!! this filmmaker has the most sophisticated humour on earth - you all should get to know her in person ! :D
😘
Just came here from DarkViperAU. Keep it up guys the quality of this video is crazy good
I remember David’s excitement when this happened, all this time later it’s the no-brainer choice everywhere. Great story, cheers
Met Dan when I was working at Facebook. I loved the documentary! So relatable ❤
Best IT Documentary of all the time, A journey of 12 years
The production quality of this documentary is incredible 😮 it’s also really fun to watch and learn more about the earlier period of React before I even thought about becoming a software developer.
Glad you enjoyed it! ✌️
here after the controversy over the guy who re-uploaded this vid. I think the guy (despites his crappy attitude afterwards) did more good than harm. Anyway, great documentary. Blessings
We love React and seeing our heroes, this is nothing less than a superhero movie!
Thanks Honeypot for this and thank you everyone who built this piece of technology which changed the life of millions!

As a react dev, the graphql and vuejs documentary made me proud and I dont even use them.
Mr. Sebastian Markbåge is so calm and very reserved. typical criteria for really smart folks but also could be a sign of coping with smth really difficult.
This is truly amazing! I was thinking that I'm so lucky to use this technology for my projects, and hearing the story and effort of the Engineers made me realize that I can do much better in work using react. Thank you @Honeypot and all the Team behind this for making this awesome documentary for all those who are in the tech community.
Ahhh, it's amazing to see how to React evolved over the years. This thing pays my bills guys. Thanks to the creators
As a developer, I find this channel as the gem I was searching for a long time. Keep up the great job!
Dvau gang. Keep doing what you are doing honeypot
Cool documentary! Thank you 😊
I’m just now entering tech industry via internship at a startup, switching careers from an unrelated field of aviation and excited to continue to use React. Thank you for this great technology.
Incredible documentary, production and storytelling is out of this world. Thank you!
Thank you! 💛
The beginnings were calling for quit but the pioneers kept the vision. What a great documentary
The Vue documentary was amazing. Can't wait!
Thankyou for all of you who work hard behind the react core team. ❤My life changed when i learn react and now i had great career with react.
I think Typescript also deserves a video like this considering it took years to be popular (when React took only like 1 year to become mainstream)
NO
I was very excited for this documentary to come out, I felt so emotional by the end of it. This is by far the most valuable documentary for the entire Dev Community.
The documentary was amazing bring me back to the best memories from 2010 at that point in time everybody in the world was working to solve problems in web and mobile, the energy and vibe in the conference was like rock start incredible time thanks guys good job!
I decided to use react for our products.... it definitely was the right decision! thank you and for the developers of nodejs
This was just incredible. Thank you HoneyPot for this one.
Ah man! The video production, the audio, the edits. I don't even know what React.js is, and I'm still watching this. This looks way too good for RUclips
This was very inspiring, so nice to see get to know those super good developers on the process of creating React
1:14:38 When Tom starts explaining how it was all a team effort, it's this moment I was tearing up!! In love with these documentaries!! Keep them coming.. ❤
I would have liked to see Jordan Walke in the doc, having his perspective on all of it would have been really cool
The talk by Jordan Walke at ReasonConf 2019 is a nice complement to this documentary. There, he gives his perspective on the ideas behind React and how React came to be. Link: ruclips.net/video/5fG_lyNuEAw/видео.html
+1, Do you have any idea why he didn't in the documentary?
at first i didn't even understand Reactjs, but then by time i watched many tutorials an practiced it, it just became my favorite Frontend framework, i just love working with react no matter how hard it is, it was thanks to react that i gained much experience in javascript because he makes things very simple ! i pick react js and always will do for any project i work with
Excellent documentary, I must say ❤️❤️. It was like watching a superheroes movie (like avengers). Everyone of them is special (specially Dan 😍 my personal fav). Was also waiting for Jordan to show up all the time😊
The story really from an underdog entrance into the behemoth it is today, happy that I transitioned from a backend dev to frontend around 2014 and encountered React along the journey, still much to learn though.
darkviper legion bri ging in the vieuws
This is the power of a small, focused team
I can't wait for the Svelte Documentary 😍
They have already made one
@@siyaram2855 huh? I cant find it. You sure you're not talking about Vue?

Came here to support this channel after seeing DarkViperAU's video. I'm not a programmer but i will finish this video from start to end. :) Keep up the good work :)
I literally got emotional over this documentary. I think it reflects the dreams and struggels of web development very well and overall gives a sensational feeling of overcoming problems with huge enthusiasm and trust in their vision. 10/10 best one so far, Honeypot. Ty
Thanks Toni 💕
React changed my life, it is the backbone of my career. Thank you
Came from darkviperau
Every time I get to write a little React component I get a little smile on my face and it's wild to think I've been using it ~7 years. Thanks for 7 years of smiles, team!
Dude, I never thought this video was gonna be a motivational masterpiece! The way they kept their focus and believed in what they were creating, even when people were hating on it and calling it an antipattern like JSX at first, is so inspiring! 👏
_People always fear the unknown, even when deep down it's actually good stuff_ 😜
