As with most manufacturers, they should just offer the same bike with different wheels (Ribble do this). Let people choose what price point they want to buy one at. I rant about this often but it's so annoying how if you want the same bike with different wheels you also have to have the frame in a colour you don't want and buy a higher tier groupset. "oh you want the carbon wheels? Well now you have to have the same frame in black instead of green and buy di2"
If you know exactly what you want. It's better to buy a frame set and build your own bike. This method isn't the cheapest. There also a host of parts compatibility issues you need to sort out when selecting parts. But you'll get exactly what components you want installed on a bike.

Merida is certainly a brave company embedding the light into the seat post as lighting / rear radar technology is changing so quick. Hopefully they will keep the mounting of the light the same and come out with improved lights that can snap into the seat tube as improvements are made.
In 2016 Giant TCR6700 already have the similar😊 light on the seat post. The bike with SL alloy frame weight only around 8kg, With some cheap and simple upgrade like tpu tube, titanium skewer, saddle, etc the bike weight only 7.6kg and still can be lower more if willing to spend more.
I Sold my Trek Madone SLR6 after only 10 months of Usage. Before I start, The Madone is a great bike and if i'm on a unlimited budget i would buy it again as an aero bike because it just ticks all the boxes, but there are some reasons i want to list to why i sold it. 1- I'm 164 cm / 60 kg. The Madone is not so snappy and I prefer a classic / climbing geometry where I can feel like i'm one with the bike, with the Madone you feel like you're riding something extremely fast, highly engineered and aerodynamic and willing to give you whatever you give to it, but it just lacked that sense of that you're one with the bike, it's not so zippy and snappy like a classic light rim brake bike 2 - I got a good deal to sell it, i sold it for the same price i bought it at after 10 months of usage, so it was an offer i can't refuse. 3- Disc brakes... I don't see why I would need them since i live in a flat city and even when i go climbing descending on a rim brake bike is fine by me. I live also in a very dry area it rarely ever rains. 4- It's too much bike for me atm... I've only been cycling for two years now and it is an over kill bike for me atm, i'm not using it to it's full potential and i'm working on training and increasing my fitness as i'm still at 4 watts per kilo. 5- I find myself more comfortable on a old geometry type of frame like a cannondale supersix or a argon gallium which im using right now with a 105 groupset which is MORE than enough for my current needs and my current level as a cyclist in conclusion, many cyclist don't know that they can be on a really good bike at a cheap price. Specially if you are still in the begging and working on thrashing your bike and improving your power on it while learning the basic skills like handling. Also these higher end bikes have proprietary parts that are hard to get, expensive and hassle to work with for a beginner who is expecting to crash a lot and use the bike for training / racing / everything.

I'm glad someone is finally addressing one of the most basic principles of physics, F=ma. One that bike designers and their sycophantic lackeys in cycling media continues to ignore. Even if you save a bunch of watts at a frame's peak speed, how many did you waste dragging that lead balloon to that speed in the first place? How many watts are wasted just moving that extra weight for 100 miles? 130 miles? Up inclines?
I think Merida has a great price point in targeting all levels of riders (entry, intermediate and pros) and allows for an easier transitioning. instead of paying (in your suggestion) an extra $1000, they can save it, and upgrade slowly and to their need. The only disappointing model is the 5000 model with the non-series crank!

Thanks for your content. I just subscribed. Because of this video, this weekend (7/4/2024) I took delivery of my brand new Merida23 Reacto 6000 SM Titan / Black for $3989AUD. Pretty amazing price for the usual 2024 inflations!! Will save up for a decent 60mm carbon wheelset to finish off the package.
I have the same bike too and managed to change the wheelset as well to a deeper 55mm vision and it does make a big change weight wise and riding experience plus it will make the reacto the needed aesthetics too.
I was lucky in that I got a 9000E frame set and built it myself to my needs. Totally agree with the upgrade recommendations. Though I did swap my original choice of 50 mm Bora Two back to Enve. The Boras were just too stiff and made the ride too harsh on our poor roads. Very easy to speed up and hold it.
I've got a Reacto force edition and it's a weapon. Not the lightest sure and the light is bloody useless, but aside from these, the characteristics of this bike are extremely impressive and it really could be classed as an all-rounder (gravel anyone?). And the comfort factor is out of this world.

Good review. I have a Scultura with the same saddle (Expert CC) ... and in a world of crappy OEM parts that come with new bikes these days I found it to be the best saddles ive ever ridden. No idea why, it just simply works
Even though it's a year old, this review has cemented my decision on my new bike for Xmas. 2022 Reacto 8000, DI2, Reynolds AR58 wheels, lots to like and I can get it at a fair discount. Sounds like a quick upgrade to the bars might be an idea though, anything you'd recommend? My Avanti Corsa DR2 ate the derailleur a few weeks back and cracked the seat stay, has got well over 30000km on it so I'll do a basic repair and put it on the trainer full time.
I know your restricted somewhat on access, but I feel like the Canyon Aeroad and potentially the new Ribble Ultra might be good addition's to this test at a later stage?
Yes, I'd love to know about the Aeroad, assuming they ever release it after the seat post debacle. Traveled 1500km to the TDU to test ride the previous model and get the size right. Looks like it's no easy fix so we might be waiting a while sadly
I have the blue Reacto 6000 2021 for the past 8 months or so, I do feel that the bike is at the fat side being an aero disc I have upgraded to Hyper 65mm wheelsets, carbon Power saddle and carbon handlebar. The weight has gone down to 8.4kg with bottle cages. It's the best bang for bucks in the aero segment. I'm not a pro or a strong cylcist that can produce 400W average. So every wattage saving counts ;)
Gone down to 8.4kgs…. 🥴 what a lump of lead. If you’re not a strong cyclist get a nice lightweight, comfortable bike and you’ll be faster than that heavy aero tank 👍🏻
It's definitely good for group ride doing the flats for sure! Hence my 65mm wheel set on it. I do have another bike, Scott addict rim brake which weighs just about 7.5kg complete with pedals etc. Which I used for solo, hilly and longer rides. The addict is definitely more comfortable, lighter etc. But the Merida just looks fast even when riden slow 😉 At the end of the day Horses for courses.

Thank´s for the review! I checked the stats on that awesome comparison site that you´re using and it ticks my main metrics. And in Germany it´s listed for only 2800€ on the Merida Website. Nice Bike, if you consider upgrading components gradually (wich i did on all my bikes).
I think what you saw on the German website for 2800€ was the Reacto 5000, which is slightly down-specced compared to the 6000: Even shittier wheelset, RS 510 cranks (even below 105!), different bottom bracket etc.
Just ordered the frame only from a local dealer (size L). Eager to build it as a flat stages / tt bike, with 1x transmission (Ultegra everything) and nice deep wheels. I'm curious if I can get it bellow 7.500 (pedals & water included). I really don't like that integrated light... I hope mine comes with a regular seat tube :)
The light is naff, I always expect to change bars, cranks, wheels, saddle so the cheaper the better for me. The frame and the groupset is the most expensive items and sometimes the parts I swap can be changed over from another bike.
Hey Cam not sure if this is already on your ideas board but would be great if you could do some random competitions for 'bike stuff' laying about the house. Do you remember when Shane Miller did it sometimes if you commented on his videos?
That's a great idea Scott. My big issue is time. I'm currently trying to recruit a few admin resources that can help me out to facilitate things like that. Appreciate the suggestion. Cam
Hi Cam, just ordered a 2021 Force Edition due to your glowing review. Which surprisingly was in stock 😳 here in Spain. I’m an right in thinking this is a size Small? If so may I ask how tall you are. As I went with my bike fitters suggestion of a XS and not a S (at 171cm) But just seeing what others are using. Cheers. Love your videos and love the stats overlays!
Hi Cam, very informative video. I recently got the Reacto and have upgraded wheels and saddle, my next upgrade is hopefully bars and stem, what would you recommend? Thanks James.
Off the subject, but I really want to see the Seka review very soon. $2000 is way beyond my budget, but if it is very good, I will get one. Is is made in Taiwan? thanks
Been on the fence about getting the 8000e for awhile now. Comes with all the bells and whistles and is pretty to boot. Yeah that light is a bit of a “meh, okay” but also when comparing the wheelbase and feeling it out for my 5 min test ride… define “planted” I’m in a city normally on a Cinelli mash or a 2014 tcr with a noticeably shorter wheelbase and love the responsiveness. Any more thoughts in this?
I am not an expert apart from google and my physics degree, but rotating weight as rule of thumb counts for 3 times non rotating weight does, so an extra 400gms on rimset is more like 1200gms - just saying... great analysis
Hey Nicholls, would like to ask. I live in Singapore the reacto 5000 cost 4200 sgd and reacto 8000 cost 7995 sgd. if I were to upgrade most of the reacto 5000 like the handlebar, stem, wheelset, cassette, tyres and so on... which will bring me up to 6.5k ish sgd. Would it be better for me to save up for reacto 8000 since that 1.4k diff I get a first tier carbon and di2?
Cam, what’s is your opinion: I currently have an allez sprint. Thinking either to get a giant TRC (rim brake) or the windspace. Can you comment on the comparison amongst the three please (or anyone else watching for that matter). I love my allez, but is it worth the switch, and if so, which one would be the better option?
It depends on your riding. I don’t know what you like to do with your bike. The TCR is great, but I would hold the Allez and invest your money in gold.
How have the wheels been holding up Cam? looking to get some in 38mm or a set of far sports feders built on carbon ti hubs. Just woundered if the creaking ever returned?
Cam, ask your mates at Advanced Traders if they expect bike stocks to increase anytime soon. Have a standing order for a Reacto Force Edition at my LBS and simply cant get stock. First world problems I know....
Did you notice any sluggishnes in the shifting due to the integration of the cables? In theory shifting will get worse with tighter bends. Thanks in advance for your answer.
Would you say that the Reacto Force edition is a solution to what you have noted on the 6000. Or would you go 7000 and new wheel set? For an electronic groupset and overall price?

Arent Merida and Specialized Sharing a distribution factory? That frame looks very similar, and more than likely performs to the standard over the lower Level Tarmac frames Youd think!
Another great review Cam. How did the Speed Rating go with the Hyper wheelset.
Cheers Gavin! I'm sorry though, I can't give away the triple headed review data! In a week or two!
@@CamNicholls so I'm guessing we'd know how it compares to the Winspace frame right?
Cam
No worries mate, thanks for the reply!
Nice one mate, I am 179 and went small
Hi Cam, very informative video. I recently got the Reacto and have upgraded wheels and saddle, my next upgrade is hopefully bars and stem, what would you recommend? Thanks James.
The winspace bars are really good and inexpensive
Yip, just checked them out, look impressive and affordable. Cheers for steering me in the right direction!👍
Off the subject, but I really want to see the Seka review very soon. $2000 is way beyond my budget, but if it is very good, I will get one. Is is made in Taiwan? thanks
Would love to see a review of the Force edition mate. Comes with Reynold AR58’s wheels.
I did one similar with Di2 and the same wheels - just RUclips search reacto review and I’m sure you’ll see it
How tall are you Cam? It'll give me a better idea of which size I'm likely to be in the different brands looking at your set up and position. Cheers
Thanks for sharing your experience cam. So you think the alloy stem and bars are a significant drawback? Is it mostly due to weight?
Wheels are the drawback, stem and handlebar is average but not a must
Been on the fence about getting the 8000e for awhile now.
Trek & Specialized need to come to this party!!!
Yes, Trek coming soon!
The legendary Foil too!
@@CamNicholls cervelo s series please !! :D
Specialized are here in spirit since they are made by Merida.
@@markj.a351 Not that there's anything wrong with that! :)
Merida make good bikes - so no probs!
If you had to choose would you get the Merida and upgrade the wheels or get the giant propel?
Great honest review.
Cheers Nigel
I am not an expert apart from google and my physics degree, but rotating weight as rule of thumb counts for 3 times non rotating weight does, so an extra 400gms on rimset is more like 1200gms - just saying... great analysis
Excellent review Cam‼️ I came across a Reacto 6000 for steal of a price and seriously considering it.
#RobbArmstrong
Hey Nicholls, would like to ask. I live in Singapore the reacto 5000 cost 4200 sgd and reacto 8000 cost 7995 sgd.
if I were to upgrade most of the reacto 5000 like the handlebar, stem, wheelset, cassette, tyres and so on... which will bring me up to 6.5k ish sgd. Would it be better for me to save up for reacto 8000 since that 1.4k diff I get a first tier carbon and di2?
Yes I would
Damn that’s expensive. I got a Merida reacto 2019 for $1800 AUD. Not sure if that’s expensive
Thoughts on using the Reacto 4000 as a crit bike (with upgraded wheels of course)?
Cam, what’s is your opinion:
I currently have an allez sprint.
You’ll not notice any difference so you’ll be wasting your money. That allez sprint is every bit as good a frame for most mere mortals.
Thanks! I am mainly a weekend warrior who likes the joys of cycling and bikes responsiveness.
How have the wheels been holding up Cam? looking to get some in 38mm or a set of far sports feders built on carbon ti hubs. Just woundered if the creaking ever returned?
Well! I rate them.
Nope didn’t notice
Would you say that the Reacto Force edition is a solution to what you have noted on the 6000. Or would you go 7000 and new wheel set? For an electronic groupset and overall price?
Either or, depends on you’re riding 👍
Hello! I am now choosing a new bike. There is an opportunity to buy a used REACTO 600 in size S. What is your height? my height is 176 cm. do you think it will fit?
hi just want to purchase merida reacto 6000 aero bike i am 5’4” height what size is applicable to me.?
if you have to choose with the same specs reacto or t1500??
When’s the head to head dropping?
Looking at the Merida plus, Scott foil.
Next Wed I am hoping. Big job!
Brutally honest, looks like diamond that needs some polishing…💎
Yes, another good way to put it.
Can you uprage its groupset to the latest ultegra di2?
MERIDA is nice bike.Just curious how come you never do reveiw on Giant advance Propel vs Pinerello Colnago with all Campagnolo Super Record .
Access to it. It’s not easy getting your hands on bikes
@@CamNicholls Do you think the Electric Components are waste of money ?Shimano DI2 or Campagnolo EPS Super Record. Or Sram E Tap have you experienced any those Components. And so witch one you prefer. Cheers brother lol JJ .
What bike computer mount are you using on the FSA stem ?
Just some cheap wahoo one I found in the bike box.
@@CamNicholls Thanks Cam. I have the Reacto 7000-e. The integrated cables don’t allow for a handlebar wrap version so need a stem mount. The one your using looks great so was hoping for a brand so I could buy one.
Love the blue but that pink label needs to go. I almost got the enduro 6000
Yes, not a fan of the colours myself. I would go black, if I had the option.
Great video as always, Cam. I've been looking at the 7000-e and wonder if it's worth the extra $1500 or so. Appears the same just with Di2 and DT Swiss spline p1800s.
The p1800s are entry level wheels which need to be upgraded as well.
I wish i could just buy the frame
Thanks for explaining the shit sandwich. I’ve never had such a good detailed explanation of it. 😂
Disc cooling technology ... it's just a heat sink :)
我最喜欢数据量化了!😂
currently deciding between getting the merida reacto 5000 or a specialized sl7 comp. upgrading to 50 mm carbon wheels as soon as they arrive of course. does anyone have thoughts between the two
I'd go the Tarmac if you're in a hilly area. Merida if not
@@CamNicholls thanks for the reply! I live in a pretty flat area and recently got a deal on a used merida 5000. going to upgrade the wheels to winspace hypers as soon as I sell my old bike
@@willardyurianto what year is the reacto? And how much did you get it for?
2020. i got it for 40 million indonesian rupiah which is around 2800 us dollars
@@willardyurianto fuck I got a reacto 5000 2019 for 1,800 AUD
The amount of races Bahrain have won this year you would be thinking Merida's sales would be going through the roof and you actually seem to be able to get your hands on the bikes far easier than Giant.
Yes, it's a good point you raise Geoffrey
I can only find 3000s or team Bahrain's edition in Germany :/
Although most of those races were won on the new Scultura which is yet to be released.
@@bikerjk1205 makes sense when most of the races they've won are climbing stages. 👍
Walk into a 99 Bikes and the only Merida road bikes they have in stock are the cheaper aluminium Sculturas
Does anyone know how to purchase this bike in the United States.
You can’t unfortunately. Because of Specialized , Merida own 49% of them
Hi, do you know about accident that killed cyclist name Mike Hall? I heard the culprit get away with it, not even appeal to supreme court accepted. Could you make a video about that?
I am sorry about this story, but that is not really aligned to the content on this channel. More of a news journalism story. Very sorry to hear though.
Shit sandwich feedback.. haha welldone mate!!
In the states, we call that the compliment sandwich because two compliments sandwich the shit.
That makes no sense. I'm having a bread sandwich for lunch today?
@@the318pop you sandwich the shit in bread to make it go down easier. It makes total sense…
@@itsP0rky bread-compliment-bread. That's a compliment sandwich.
Do im looking to buy a Merida : No
Do im looking to buy a new bike: No
Do i know why im watching this video: No
Do i still watch it : Yes
Haha 👍
I noticed the new ‘22 Reacto has gained a few $$$. I feel like Merida just dropped a lot of value with the price increases.
Now wheels came into the equation. Wheelset comparison
Caden VS Winspace VS iCan coming 👍👍
Idk why manufacturers say "ultegra" and give people a mixed groupset...
Because they want to save money?
Arent Merida and Specialized Sharing a distribution factory? That frame looks very similar, and more than likely performs to the standard over the lower Level Tarmac frames Youd think!
Do we feel they were just being Stingy with the 105 Cassette? Or perhaps, that was all they could get there hands on in a mass amount during this world wide parts shortage
I think it is more like Merida build bikes for Specialized.
@@declan979 either or, however this frame feels like a real "you can copy my homework, just change it a little" from the Tarmac
Merida owns 49% or Specialized and is their manufacturing arm
Hi, for compare to your previous video that reacto 6000 got 6.5/10 for speed and this bike is 8.5/10 or speed.
Is reacto really slower than this Helios? Thanks
😊
So let’s recap, buy this bike and upgrade it with Winspace Hyper 50mm wheel set !
Any good quality carbon wheels would work
BRO ITS STILL NO BMC~! im gonna stay on you about this mate haha
More like $3900. That's gp5000s and ultegra cassette difference
Why arent you out protesting the lockdowns ?
I’m in Queensland, there is no lockdown. Very fortunate here.
NACA profiles aren't Merida, but it's good that they aren't bragging about imaginary ones that are 'superior' to NACA. For context NACA basically became NASA once the space race started.
Close to selling my Propel now................ haha
When you're paying over 4k for a 9kg bike there's something very wrong with it
You'd love durianrider
@@leslie7922 yeah I do, I love me some rim brakes
@@leslie7922 he loves not getting ripped off for a lump of lead.
But the yellow edging on the tires makes the wheel look dirty. Whoever introduced the yellow has no aesthetic sense.
That’s tan wall tyres. That was a personal choice. Nothing to do with Merida
@@CamNicholls Yes, I understand that they are not Merida tires; I point to the manufacturer who released the dingy tan edging.
that’s a venge under merida branding and for half the price
I’ve ridden both. Quite different from what I have seen
I find having the video divided into five...main...parts and then being reminded every time we get to a new part pretty irritating to watch. None of the other channels I watch regularly seem to do this and the content flows much more smoothly without these interruptions. Anyway, just some feedback.
Thanks for sharing. It’s done to help with engagement and allows people to skip easily to sections. But noted.
@@CamNicholls In my opinion RUclips chapters in the play back bar would be a MUCH better way to do this. I like your channel overall and only mean this as constructive criticism. The way you are doing it now disengages the viewer from the content multiple times per video. Just my perspective as a viewer and subscriber of the channel.
They all look the same now.
I wouldn’t by the bike… have a BMC and Scott Addict Pro which are amazing bikes…. Merida looks cheap with poor and cheap products added…
Frame is actually amazing. Don’t forget Merida manufacturing makes Specialized bikes
Modern bikes are so ugly with those dropped seat stays which provide no benefit in moving forwards
Is a heavy bike,sad
Yes, but that can be overcome.
@@CamNicholls you’ll never make that bike a lightweight. Over 9kg stock is ridiculous. My CAAD12 105 stock with lead for components wasn’t even close to that. And it only cost £1300 new.
@@Imthekingofdogshite let me guess, it’s not aero and doesn’t have disc brakes 😉
We should compare apples with apples.
@@Workaholic42 a road bike compared to a road bike? All this making excuses because it’s ‘aero’ or ‘disc’ is pointless. When a 2021 road bike at £3000 weighs in over 9kgs it’s a disgrace. In the real world any of those aero wind tunnel gains count for little to none. I upgraded my CAAD12 and it weighs 7.2kg ready to ride and still cost less than £3000. I guarantee it feels snappier, climbs better and is an all round better bike than that stock Merida.
@@Imthekingofdogshite I bought Scott addict 20 with rim breaks 2020 for £1250 and weighs 8 kg , upgrading wheels and seat would it get it down to 7.2 kg !
Not aero, not fast. Proprietary shit everywhere.
