Eddie is able to be a gentleman and very manly, because that’s who he is. But at the same time he can be as feminine as a lady when he wants to, he is one of the actors that I truly respect and look up to because he’s very determined to a role he’s given, and he works his hardest whatever the circumstances

The book shows that well too. Greta's hurt by what Lily's doing, she misses her husband but she is someone Lily can confide in and Greta doesn't want to let Lily go either. She helped create Lily but she's afraid of loosing her too. In the book the two characters are very separated almost like a double life.
That made me want to punch that guy in the face. Lili kept telling him no and he still did it anyways--arrgh- sorry I just hate it when certain men think they can take advantage of a women they assume is weak and helpless.
I remember my sister melody walked by while me & my mom were watching this & she said the “actress” looked beautiful. I was like “right??!!!” My mom just smiled & giggled.
Honestly Eddie gives such a real and heart wrenching performance. The way Lili smiles and how her eyelashes flutter when she hears her name... Eddie puts such hard work into all his acting, especially emotional parts.
I never actually made it past the first few minutes.... today I watched a few clips on youtube, but I am pretty sure that I still can't manage to watch the whole thing, going to give me a mental breakdown and being jealous of how much further Lily is in her transition than me ^^ ... good movie though, I am glad they made it.
I love Eddie Redmayne's performance of course, but I am constantly enamored with Ben Whishaw's characters (probably given that he is my favorite actor). He is an actor that I feel always brings me wholeheartedly into any story he takes part in. He also stars in a period film called Brideshead Revisited which quite a lot of people deemed a lesser quality to its predecessor, the 1980s BBC television show. His portrayal of one of my favorite literary characters Sebastian Flyte is just so superb and feminine.
She was intersex, it was discovered that she had ovaries upon her autopsy. The nosebleeds were like a period of sorts, since her body worked differently, the nosebleeds usually coincided with stomach cramps on a monthly basis (As the person above me pointed out!).

The trans gender community wanted a trans person to play Einar/ Lili. IMHO, a trans person might not have shown the subtleties the performance required.
I think this movie is beautifully done. It shows with rare compassion the pain of the first transgender man (man to woman) years ahead of comprehension who was in so much turmoil that he gave his life in following his beliefs. This movie was/is a trailblazer. It should have won an award. Best wishes to all.
I read that Lili had a boyfriend after her and her wife’s marriage was annulled (although they remained friends.) I wonder if she was straight (only attracted to men even as Einar) or bisexual. Did Lili truly romantically and physically love her wife?
Milfuelle100 It was annulled because marriage between 2 women wasn’t allowed. She stayed loyal to Einar as Lily bc he was still the person she loved. But she did keep asking for Lily to just switch back for some moments, so she could see her husband.
