    Watching this video a year later, I found it very relaxing after a long, tiring day ... to just watch a dude with a sweet French-Belgian accent put a guitar together. Cool to recognize the person singing too :)

    Word of advice when installing the bridge- don't screw the bridge into the holes the builder drilled- most of the time they're on the small side and are only meant to be used as a guide for drilling true pilot holes. Make sure they're the correct size for your screws or you could crack or split the wood.

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for the input. 😀 Aren’t the screw size for the bridge pretty standard though? 🤔 It feels like the builder should be able to confidently drill a suitable size for most bridges. I had no problems with cracks. :)

    partscasters rule!! I made a 60s style "relic"

    Sweet axe! Sonic blue is actually more of a 60’s color but it does looks sweet with a maple neck

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  4 года назад +1

      Thanks! That's true! Daphne blue is the 50's color. But maple fretboards is 50's style, like the single ply scratch plate. So overall I think this one is leaning more towards the 50's. I just really wanted the sonic blue color over the dapsone blue. :) But also keep in mind there are some custom shop models, like the 1957 one, with maple fretboard and sonic blue bodies. So maybe sonic blue was more popular for 60's strats, but there definitely where 50's strats with sonic blue as well. :D

    • @jackarcher_
      @jackarcher_ 6 лет назад +1

      Vigi Next you'll have to build your ideal modern or vintage/modern strat. Roasted maple neck, two point bridge, locking tuners etc. I'd love to see where you'd go with that too!
      You definitely make me want to build my own guitar too but I don't think I could ever decide on what I'd want to build.

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  6 лет назад +2

      That's a good idea! I just have a thing for these very vintage correct instruments, which might be stupid since modern appointments could give better performance. It's an emotional thing I guess. :)
      For me it was very easy to decide. I always wanted a sonic blue maple one in the 50s style, but all of the pre-built ones had a v-shaped neck. The Mexican one doesn't have nitro finish, which is a must for me. So this was an itch I just had to scratch. :D

    Guitar looks great! Congrats! My only quibble would be that the pickguard would have looked better as a mint green one, which I think was how the old white ones used to age. Your white one looks sort of too shiny for such a guitar where you have paid so much attention to detail in the ageing. Still, I see the video is now 3 years old so no doubt now it (a) either doesn't look so new or (b) you have come to the same conclusion yourself and changed it.

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  2 года назад +2

      Thank you! Check out the sonic blue 1956 guitar on the Fender custom shop website. That was what I was going for. So I’m very happy with the white pickguard, especially now when it has aged. I have changed the neck to an amber finish one and I think it looks a lot better. Also, I’ve sanded down the finish on the body so it doesn’t look so shiny. And now I really love it. :) For a sonic blue with a mint green pickguard (3 ply) Fender typically uses a rosewood fretboard, which I think looks great. But it wasn’t what I wanted here with the maple fretboard and single ply. :)

      @@Vigi by far the most important thing for any guitar owner is to love their guitar and to end up with something they are happy with. It makes no difference if some other people are less happy with it - it’s not their guitar! If you don't have nut files about, you can use a piece of guitar string to cut the nut down. Just pull the string tight and work it back and forth, of course you should use the correct gauge string for each slot or u can use a nail file...like your girlfriend uses. I have also heard that some pro strat uses unscrew the center screws on the vintage bridge. Also, to help with stability back off all the screws about a quarter/half turn from fully tightened down. On a side note, how do you play and not rip ur hand on those saddle?

    • @Vigi
      @Vigi  5 лет назад +1

      I actually bought some expensive nut files after this video. Unsure how effective the string filing technique is. If that works, shouldn’t the string wear down the nut over time? Wouldn’t recommend sanding down the bottom of the nut.
      Yes! I did exactly the unscrewing part. Haven’t tried unscrewing the center screws. Do you mean all four of the center screws?
      There are modern solutions, resulting in completely flat saddles. But vintage ones aren’t an issue. They aren’t sharp and then don’t stick up too far. I would ask how you would manage to cut yourself on these vintage saddles. :)

    • @spudvader
      @spudvader 5 лет назад

      @@Vigi Filing the nut with string wouldn't happen over time really because the strings don't move much compaired to filing the nut down. Yes the four screws. As for the saddles, you have the height adjustment screws exposed quite a lot, I personally dont like it cause I find my hand catching on the screws.

    What would increase the tuning stability is to higher your stringtree. I am pretty sure it doesnt need to be that low. This will lower the friction on the strings and they get better back in tune. You should also file down the nut (Not the slots) so the strings are not covered deep down and get friction from above. Last but Not least polish the slots with a string and then put in some string lube. Should be stable as your other strat :-)

      Great advice! If I remember correctly the string three for this neck had a quite short screw. But I’ve now changed the neck and it’s string tree is at a better height.
      Hmm, does the nut height matter? Even if you sand it down you’ll still have a significant part of the nut above left. Unless you sand it down a lot but I haven’t seen that in any strats.
      Yes, I use graphite. :)
      Also, I’ve removed the trem arm and flattened the bridge so it’s flush with the body. Just for increased stability.
      Btw, in the new neck I still had poor stability. Then I changed the tuners (still vintage tuners) and it got a lot better. :)

      Most of the 50s style strat necks Are soft v profile.

    • @Vigi

      That’s why I built my own. If I would buy a pre-built 50s style Strat, I would most likely get a v-neck. I don’t want that. But I do want to other features of a 50s style Strat.

    Dude nice build! You would do yourself a favor and get some good tools. That cruz crap from Fender is junk. Harbor freight has way better quality for cheap. My buddy gave me a set of that junk, it stays in a drawer.

    • @georgelackey622

      @@Vigi Way overpriced for lower quality stuff, plus the nut drivers are too shallow to go over pots or tuners, the capo is crap, hex drivers are kinda sloppy. They went generic on most of the kit and you can get way better tools for way less at any hardware store or even Harbor Freight.
