Quite a bit of very good info. Being new to multicast, the lesson answered all my questions.
In dense mode does it really send the (*,G) back in the incoming interface? and doesn't it use OIL interface calculation (RPF) in dense mode?

I want to understand where do we need to apply multicast. In our clients environment I see a few sites implemented with PIM but don't know why not all.

Is it mandatory to enable igmp or PIM is enough ?
that depends in cisco devices igmp is enable by default and it is only for a local use , however if the Sender/Server is in a different site of the network so then you will use PIM.

У меня есть вопрос к Вам, как к человеку лучше понимающего тему.
У меня на роутере крутится стример, поток которого я пускаю на мультикаст адрес.
Если я направляю поток на внутренний интерфейс (куда подключен комп), я могу подключиться через VLC и смотреть видео.
Но если я роутом направляю на внешний интерфейс (провайдеру), то VLC уже не подключается, хотя мультикаст траффик видно на внешку через tcpdump.
Все порты пробросил вроде.
Провайдер убеждает, что IGMP и PIM протоколы у них работают.
Проверить не могу, другого компа в сети нет, а VLC на смартфоне не поддерживает udp маршрутизацию.
Что я недопонимаю?
