  • Every drone flown by the U.S. military has inside a piece of the Democratic Republic of the Congo--a valuable mineral, of which the DRC has trillions of dollars worth buried underground.
For five centuries, the continent of Africa has been ravaged by the world's Empires for its vast untapped treasure. Today, the U.S. Empire is increasing it's military role through their massive command network, AFRICOM, carrying out several missions a day.
With the Congo being arguably the biggest prize for imperialist powers, Abby Martin is joined by Kambale Musavuli, spokesperson for Friends of the Congo, to look at Empire's role in their history and current catastrophe. multimedia.tele...

Back when I had just joined the military (2002), one of my buddies who worked in intel said "hey bro, you know we're also in Africa too right?" I said.."but the war is in Iraq." He looked at me and said "its wherever we are". I was young and naive and didn't understand it then because I thought we were the good guys. Abby, you and your team please keep jabbing the face of the evil empire!

"In capitalist society individuals are controlled by a pitiless law usually beyond their comprehension. The alienated human specimen is tied to society as a whole by an invisible umbilical cord: the law of value. This law acts upon all aspects of one's life, shaping its course and destiny. The laws of capitalism, which are blind and are invisible to ordinary people, act upon the individual without he or she being aware of it. One sees only the vastness of a seemingly infinite horizon ahead. That is how it is painted by capitalist propagandists who purport to draw a lesson from the example of Rockefeller - whether or not it is true - about the possibilities of individual success. The amount of poverty and suffering required for a Rockefeller to emerge, and the amount of depravity entailed in the accumulation of a fortune of such magnitude, are left out of the picture, and it is not always possible for the popular forces to expose this clearly."
    - MAN AND SOCIALISM IN CUBA, Che Guevara [1965]

+William Baxter Doubt it. Have you met your fellow countrymen and women? The fact that a 20 something kid who joins the armed forces thinks, and says, in terms of "good guys and bad guys" should give you a hint of how divorced from the mechanics of the empire our populace is; besides, our propaganda machine(s) run 24/7 and they are well oiled. This is not limited to U.S people's too, I've traveled a lot, and I'll tell you that there are more willfully ignorant people than there are inquisitive ones. History (Rome, Ottoman, British,Persian etc...empires) does repeat itself though, what we see at the international scale (geopolitics) is the manifestation of the human psyche on a grandeur scale i.e fear and greed are the main drivers of human action/inaction.

Meh, I think you're over reacting. You're merely describing the bumpy road ahead. People do suck and there never will be a utopia, but things will change. We will either get our shit together, or implode, hence activating some sort of shit together getting. Either way, it will be change, and I think, for the better. It will just take time.

Satan says: "I'm gonna take a part of your soul, but I will make the remaining part more powerful." and people say: "OK, sounds great."

This is why getting someone in the White House that will no longer do business as usual needs to happen. The establishment of the elites must be broken. Change has already started to happen with the people in America as they start to wake-up and a revolution will happen...political or otherwise...

Paul Irving how would you explain away the numerous genocides inflicted by Africans, on Africans, or men like Mobutu? Who are complicit in the crimes against their people? Or the numerous civil wars?
And when you rid the world of the white man, you'll find yourself in Utopia?

+Critical Thinking I agree in essence with what you say, but we did have someone in the white house that wanted to end the business as usual and change the direction of the US and the world towards a peaceful coexistence. His name was John F Kennedy, and he was taken out because of what he wanted to do. A coup d'etat occurred, the oligarchs took over and America has never recovered.

I have a remark concerning Kabila. It is very unclear if Kabila was a US puppet or not. Considering he was most likely murdered by a Rwandan plot, it 's hard to imagine the US did not at the very least condone his execution. Of course the US has removed puppets before and the region needs to stay destabilized. We know to what lengths Tony Blair and Clinton went to officially back Paul Kagame, however. It was an invasion of Rwandan forces that removed Mobutu and installed Kabila. Roughly a year later the Rwandan forces came back for Kabila, moreover, a war ending in a bloody stale mate that has not really ended today. (The region of Kivu is still regularly being raided by pirate forces, occupying diamond mines and the like. On top of this other neighboring countries have invaded Congo, and many unpaid soldiers turn rogue in Congo, grabbing a mine or two for themselves.)
It is important to figure out if Kabila was a puppet or not. His marxist background brought him no love in western publications, that is certain. My guess is he wasn't, which provoked an immediate second invasion in 1998. Considering Kabila has had some pr dealings with Che Guevarra, even though that relationship ended on a sour note, I find it unlikely Kabila was indeed a puppet. I'm certain he danced to some tunes not of his own making but his marxist background, no matter how faint, makes him unsuitable as a ruler. Also, Kabila never ruled Congo without it being at war.
Consider how his death is portrayed in media: the vast majority of publications claim his murder was at the hand of a boy soldier and his death a poetic retribution for his betrayal of the people. Is it not more likely that Rwanda finally got its way?
Lastly, and this should raise your suspicions: the world bank continues to view the congolese conflict as as a civil war, and the UN the opposite. (In defense of the world bank, it is often unclear who's flag a warlord bears, nor are the artificial borders of the African countries in any way definitive, considering the different peoples live in different nations.)

The real cause of the american revolutionary war was slavery, not a tea tax. There was a british court case in 1772, Sommerset versus Stewart. An escaped british slave, James Sommerset, sued his owner, Charles Stewart, and was granted his freedom. This made slave owners in the colonies such as George Washington, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, etc worried that the british government would free their slaves. Then the british government imposed a tax on slaves in an attempt to curtail slavery as well as westward expansion and the genocide of The Native People. This was what blew the lid off the pressure cooker. This was the real cause of the revolutionary war. So you see, the slave traffickers had a huge incentive to instigate the war and hide the real cause.
