I have learned to measure everything about a knife in my reviews. Most mfr websites have mistakes all over the place on their measurements. There are some exceptions like Real Steel where their measurements are always spot on, but most North American mfr websites have many discrepancies between what they claim a knife is and what it really is in terms of dimensions and weight. GREAT review. I did a review of this knife a few months ago and had the same super results from that 154CM steel.
Apparently the Patriot doesn't have any washers on the pivot, guess that might explain the action. I definitely think the Patriot is better looking and the handle oughta fit my hand better.
For the people that don't know 154cm is 440C steel with only been modified that's it.....154CM is a type of stainless steel developed and manufactured in the United States by Crucible Materials Corporation (now - Crucible Industries). Crucible 154CM is a modification of martensitic stainless steel type 440C to which molybdenum has been added. It was originally developed for tough industrial applications and combines three principal elements: carbon, chromium, and molybdenum.[1] Hitachi Corporation of Japan copied the properties of this steel for their own brand known as ATS-34.
I've never owned a Boker, most of their models just don't do it for me. Like this one, with that large "faux" finger choil, but still not forward enough to eliminate the non sharpened portion in the plunge grind area. Nice review though, and really digging that spoon action!
I have the Boker AK47 knife and it’s a great knife. Boker makes good knives. I watched the comparison with the Delica with interest as the Delica has been in my pocket for years. Think I’ll stick with my Delica.
I had owned one of these for two days. I returned it because I was extremely unimpressed with the lockup. Quite a bit of play in both directions. Can you comment on the lockup of your Patriot?
I do prefer the classic look of the Boker, but given that particular choice, I would personally choose the Delica. Still, options are always a good thing.
Give that pivot just Less than a quarter turn and a drop of oil. Once it breaks in after about a week, tighten if needed. I have no problem with mine, lightning fast, and drop shut. Enjoy!
I am a firefighter/EMT I want a knife like this but with a window punch and seatbelt cutter but all the knives with those features I have found are cheaply made knives, does anyone know where I can get a quality knife with those features?
How did you manage to carve out the bowl part of the spoon so smoothly? I've tried to carve spoons before and I couldn't smooth it out without a dremel. Love the knife reviews, keep them coming!
Thanks! I discussed and showed some of that in my Bradford Guardian 4 review. In short, it just took a lot of patience and work. Also, it's not particularly smooth, but it is a functional bowl.
No one ever talks SHARPENING!! Only flipping and quickness, you do not want thumbstuds to far back. They get in the way of sharpening on a angle sharpener if they cant be removed. Been hunting one of these for awhile. None for sale. THAT tells ya if its a good knife! In my mind its a Buck 110 killer (Bucks with the g10 or micarta handles)
Some additional facts: First, the knife is manufactured by Fox USA. Second, there are NO bushings in the knife, the FRN scales have been formed to act like a bushing, that is why this knife's deployment will never be really smooth. Without actual bushing how long will the formed FRN bushings last before they wear down and the knife the needs to be put in the trash. Barry Levitt
I'm one of those who just can't enjoy a spiderco knife. It's just the big bump that the spidey hole puts in the blade. Of course I'm speaking aesthetically, if all I had to defend myself was a spiderco… 'nuff said.
I am hardly a sharpening expert, but I have a Sharpmaker from Spyderco, and I can get a great edge using it. It took some practice, but the learning curb is not that bad, its just maintaining the angle at first, so practice on a knife you do not care about until you have an idea and then go from there. Some steels take more practice than others, but once you get the hang of sharpening, it becomes easier. I like sharpening now, it is relaxing.. and satisfying to you can do it yourself.
the central avenue gunslinger Except that the flat edge on the Delica is useless for some tasks and Spyderco's warranty is B.S. Benchmade has terrible quality control, their knives are overpriced by anywhere from $20 to $80, and the Axis lock springs fail all the time.
Cooll Asice, said the same, now have two and worth it Though I paid $62. As matter of fact have 2 in like it so much.both are drop free with no blade play. Back lock springs are strong and I adjusted them.
Brian Kerby Same handle material, better blade material (If you don't care about corrosion) and easier operation with the flipper and liner lock. I'd say Rat 1 in D2 would beat it too.
I have all mentioned.....the boker is in my pocket now, but have all mentioned and like them all. If you buying with price as keg point or in hand and use will depend which is better.
Pocket clip is stupid, the top of the bolt wears the lip of your pocket, delica clip has hardware on the outside like benchmade. Buck or sog no show clips have bolts on top where it will not contact your pocket, why does nobody pay attention to this?
I couldn't have been more disappointed with this knife after getting it in hand. Very gritty, awkward to deploy and worst of all no washers to be found. Oh and what looked to be a finger choil not really being one was a huge let down.
No chance in hell against the Delica. I have both and regret every penny of the Boker. I have other Bokers that I love but the Patriot just sits around
Thanks for the great video my friend. But this was not a great choice at the price point. I've seen much better knives at this price. I like my Ganzo 20 dollar knife better then this knife.
154cm is not better then 440C steel at all. But are same steel look it up.....154CM has no advantages over 440C when it comes to using the blade. No advantages in terms of price either. But 154CM is a bit less rust-resistant than 440C. Especially if you prefer carrying a knife close to your body. Nothing like coming home from an 8-hour shift, only to find little rust spots on the blade of the one-hander that was clipped inside your belt. The spots buff out, but it's the same situation the very next day. 440C doesn't have that problem.
Seahawk.Customs.Pc 154CM was developed as improved 440C(not for the cutlery industry though) While having less Cr and C it still can attain up to 62HRC aim hardness whereas 440C is listed with 59HRC Max(both informations taken from crucible) which is achieved through W and V. From my metallurgy-understanding(which still is rather limited) it should also hold its temper up to higher temperatures. That all being said I still had better experience with 440C which performs beautifully with polished edges and generally try to avoid 154CM but it should never present a problem with corrosion resistance in day to day tasks and certainly NOT rust in a day of carry on your belt; that just speaks of a bad heat-treat
Lol too funny stick with the 8Cr13MoV then. it's a budget cheap steel. you should do a lot more research on good steels vs junk steel maid out of soda cans.
when start talk about pocket clip ohh man how that is important I don't care for that never loose knife from pocket and never have pocket clip on knife
I own the Delica and I am LOVING this Patriot. Definitely my next knife purchase.

The spoon test... that Is awesome! It's a test of practical ability and knife agility. That's my new standard, so I'm about to have a bunch of spoons.
Apparently the Patriot doesn't have any washers on the pivot, guess that might explain the action. I definitely think the Patriot is better looking and the handle oughta fit my hand better.
I like the design and blade shape.

that's interesting. I have an old bench made that's ats-34.

Seahawk.Customs.Pc , you are correct, love the stuff too
Boker Patriot lacks washers of any kind just took my brand new one apart to tune it and discovered that
I've never owned a Boker, most of their models just don't do it for me. Like this one, with that large "faux" finger choil, but still not forward enough to eliminate the non sharpened portion in the plunge grind area.
Nice review though, and really digging that spoon action!
nice review, you might try using redwood for your spoons. Harder to carve, but makes a better spoon.
Terry Gardner Cool. I'll look for some.

Dominic Zelenak lockup has been solid on this one.
Dominic Zelenak did you try adjusting it?
Thanks! I might give it another try in the future. Keep up the good work.
the pivot screw or my insurance policy? i did tighten it, but the play would not go away. nice khakis.
I do prefer the classic look of the Boker, but given that particular choice, I would personally choose the Delica. Still, options are always a good thing.
For my money I would choose the delica every day of the week and twice on Sundays 👌
Give that pivot just Less than a quarter turn and a drop of oil. Once it breaks in after about a week, tighten if needed. I have no problem with mine, lightning fast, and drop shut. Enjoy!
will you please review the Buck Inertia 0293 !!! TYVM . cant find a review of it on YT
Looks good. Especially since I don't like the Delica.
Can you review the new Benchmade presidio II? I know it's a bigger knife but it's so good looking.
ethan pham I've looked at that, but I'm holding out for the mini.
Also seems comparable to the Kershaw Skyline. similar blade shape.
I am a firefighter/EMT I want a knife like this but with a window punch and seatbelt cutter but all the knives with those features I have found are cheaply made knives, does anyone know where I can get a quality knife with those features?
Benchmade Triage is one that comes to mind.
dean counts Triage from Bechmade
dean counts Most Microtechs have a window punch but no seatbelt cutter...
Yep the Benchmade Triage gives you all those tools.
not a bad looking knife. agree on the handle scales
thank you for the great comparation 👍

barry levitt Interesting... thanks.
After some use both mine are as smooth as my delica' s with no blade play, so will have to disagree
@@nitrorc4life1 hey Marc, thanks for the follow up

Of course I'm speaking aesthetically, if all I had to defend myself was a spiderco… 'nuff said.
Any thoughts on the Spyderco Centofante III? Aesthetically speaking, of course.
Carl Alm same here!
I'd choose the Delica but wouldnt give up my Para 2 for all of them together,,,
Sure,,,
Looks nice, not going to replace my Delica's or Endura's, especially with the Emerson wave opener.
Looks nice!
I wish bokers offered their sharpening services in their warranty like bench made, ZT, or spyderco.
I like this knife but that's a deal breaker to me.
Thunder Chicken yeah you're probably right, comes in handy when maintaining tools.
Could be relaxing to.
I am hardly a sharpening expert, but I have a Sharpmaker from Spyderco, and I can get a great edge using it. I like sharpening now, it is relaxing.. and satisfying to you can do it yourself.
So for 10 more dollars you can have a mini grip and 10 less you can have a delica 4 witch are both better knives
the central avenue gunslinger Except that the flat edge on the Delica is useless for some tasks and Spyderco's warranty is B.S. Benchmade has terrible quality control, their knives are overpriced by anywhere from $20 to $80, and the Axis lock springs fail all the time.
The Delica is better because it's easier to open with one hand.
$74. LOL
Cooll Asice, said the same, now have two and worth it Though I paid $62. As matter of fact have 2 in like it so much.both are drop free with no blade play. Back lock springs are strong and I adjusted them.
Patriot wins IMO. Made in USA + slightly better blade steel.
Shades of the Benchmade Pika...
I''ll keep my Cold Steel Finn Wolf.
All Cold Steels I've seen are Taiwan. The quality is as good as any of my Spydercos. And I Love the Scandi grind.
All Cold Steels I've seen are Taiwan. The quality is as good as any of my Spydercos. And I Love the Scandi grind.
boker looks better and I like 154cm
Cutjack at $30 cheaper is a better value for sure.

Chris Loew probably because it isn't a huge deal. If you carry a knife every day, any clip is going to wear your pants material
Eight years of pocket carry and no negative affects to my pockets following my observation, so I'll stick to it. YMMV
I couldn't have been more disappointed with this knife after getting it in hand. Very gritty, awkward to deploy and worst of all no washers to be found. Oh and what looked to be a finger choil not really being one was a huge let down.
Dubbin1 its plastic it doesn't really need washers. the delica dosnt have washers either
The Delica has bronze washers.
Dubbin1 sorry I was thinking of the dragonfly
the handle scales they look so average!?!
that is best knife in last few years
bogoljub djordjevic for boker yes for every body else 😂😂😂😂
No chance in hell against the Delica. I have both and regret every penny of the Boker. I have other Bokers that I love but the Patriot just sits around

Seahawk.Customs.Pc Ok.... But 154cm is a lot better than 440c. Plus, this knife actually has a warranty backing it
