As a doctor, I always tell my students that we should see the genitals, the anus, and the breasts as normal parts of the body, like fingers, and stomach and etc. There is no reason for discomfort or arousal when talking about it. Great video!
I enjoy how frank and blunt he is with this subject matter. Makes it easier to process and loses the silly immaturity some videos have. Very factual and informative. Thanks for sharing!
That is the problem. Society programmed us that this topic is taboo and inappropriate but in all seriousness, it should be discussed freely considering this is about the body which we all have. How funny that flexing one's wealth is somewhat acceptable compared to this. I mean even erection which can happen in a non sexual way (during sleep) is automatically considered lewd
I am a pelvic floor physical therapist and I had a patient send me this video as something they had found to do to benefit them. My one issue with this video is that he performs the contractions while holding his breath on an inhale. This increases pressure within the abdominal cavity in such a way that can increase the risk of prolapse and make existing prolpase worse. I would encourage all to relax the pelvic floor on an inhale and contract on the exhale. However, I do love his ending comments about how a lot of pelvic floor issues are related to an imbalance and not just weakness.
Takes so little time, and seems to be an excellent addition to self-care and long-term health. I have always appreciated your honest and frank responses to questions that are asked of you regarding somewhat serious body issues, and I liked the end of this video where you state that there are times when an in-person specialist is necessary. Thank you, your approach to teach this mudra (new to me!) was on point! 🤗❤
I haven't seen anyone mention specifically that this is a highly important priority for concentration through Asana. Stabilizing the pelvic floor provide a grounding sense, preventing energy from "leaking downwards" and is often referred to engaging Mula Bandha. This, of course, is paired with Uddiyama Bandha engagement. Try it out in your practice for a while, maybe a little research, and watch your practice flourish!

This is really good for learning to focus on a specific part of my body. I kept accidentally doing kegals. I appreciate this, as it's not a part of my body I normally think of. Thank you 😊
Bonjour, Je vous écrit depuis la France 🇨🇵😉. J'ai bien aimé ce cours. Merci. Je me suis senti à l'aise, car tu dégage de la bienveillance. Flo, Thank you for this video. I struggle with some pelvic floor pain at times and wondering if you would be able to make a video for Men's pelvic floor health, possibly strengthening and or loosening, I understand that a tight pelvic floor can be as bad as a loose one. I have heard that you can sit on a ball like you do in some of your videos to release the facia of certain muscles and I have no idea how to do this properly on the pelvic floor. Practicing yoga for the last 6 months has helped with my issue. Strengthening the hips with yang and stretching them out in yin has been a huge help. As a man my focus was never to work with my hips over the years leaving them weak and tight and yoga has helped open them up. Yet, I still have some pain from time to time. Any help would be much appreciated. BTW: great content, You and Bre have been an inspiration on my path to healing and self-love.
Pelvic floor excercises are very important for prostate cancer patients to avoid incontinence and erile disfunction. Agree with the physio comment, I learned everywhere to contract at the exhale.
not overdoing it is key.... pelvic floor can be an area of disfunction and often, the deeper layers of the posterior portion of the pelvic floor is too "tight". Like all muscles, to be functional, the pelvic floor has to be able to contract AND release. Over doing these kind of exercises without knowing allowing the release can feed int this disfunction as a muscle that is too tense if no better than a muscle that cannot activate. In addition to the contractions, the synchronization of the pelvic floor eccentric movement should coordinate with the diaphragm ( when the diaphragm contracts to inhale, the pelvic floor has to "stretch" a little to allow for the increase of the intra abdominal pressure). GENTLE exercises of pelvic is grand and remembering that the tension ( or strength ) can be different left to right, posterior to anterior... I would also add to pay attention to effect on the lower back. If someone already has back "issues" it can be often related to a loss of release or synchronization of the pelvic floor. Good on you for making this video... I hope people pay attention to your final words very wise.
Once again, a most fortuitous exercise/practiceseemingly especially for me!. I just returned from the hospital and was asking the universe for support reenganging my digestive system functions and especially #2. Although my muscles seem capible and strong, I found the strengthening of the anal sphixnter to also move up inside along the entire colon path which is where I had my surgery. It was just perfect:) I cannot work on the calendar or regular practice right now, but this felt right and powerful! TY, Flow!! ~love you guys!
Well-presented, Flo. Thank you fir addressing this oft ignored important aspect of self-care. I followed along while making breakfast 😁 This is another video I expect to recommend for my massage therapy clients, thank you again 🙏
I appreciate you sharing this exercise. Your explanation and approach are great! I look forward to checking out some of your other videos such as breathing, and yoga. Many thanks!
I think he is completely right. The anal muscle is a very important and usually neglected muscle. I wish he had done the video showing the exercises with a video close up on his anal sphincter and the movement of his perineum. It would have been more illustrative
My partner has this in his RUclips lists. We’re exploring these things. I don’t have the language / words for what’s going on, but this stuff actually does work. There should be tutorials for couples, though. Coz we’re kind of treading into uncharted territory.
The way the strings of the hoodie are stuck there so it *might* read "kinkyness" eh? "Breath" and upside-down-cross "Flow"? oh and the thumbnail that looks like he's pressing against a wall (receiving something from behind; I mean what do those hands have to do with otherwise, intuitively)
It's absolutely true as you get older it's something that's been used a lot for defecation for many many years so if you don't keep it toned up it's called rectal prolapse not anything I want to have
Hi there thank you do much I had to perianall fistulas, and had to have setons placed last year, the fistulas healed but then I started getting night time incontinence, so embarrassing, have been practicing this dnx can really feel the muscles now, gave you any other exercises ? Or courses? Regards Barry.
im not sure if im doing it right. i can "hold it in" so to speak, of course, but it feels like im simultaneously tightening other muscles or body parts, especially the spongey "muscle" in front that has a very phallic shape. i bet im "supposed to" be able to control them separately. hmm, i guess i have some work to do
to be functional, the pelvic floor muscles are synchronized and they are muscles we should not have to "think" about. I would be surprised that 1 could create a lot of isolation beyond ( it would take a lot of awareness and, in my opinion, a lot of unnecessary practice) ... Training these muscles to improve tone, ability to release or making sure they are all functioning and well balanced left and right as well as front and back is a great idea. But being able to to isolate beyond those broader areas are not likely to have greater results.
I am 66 yo and have just had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago, as a result of frequent rectal bleeding. No cancer or hemmorhoids 👍, but Dr says I have ulcers. My issue is not having trouble keeping poop in, it's getting it out!! Thus alot of forcing going on. My Doc advised fibre supplement every day and that I must strengthen my pelvic floor and anal muscles as they are very weak. 🙁 And so, I am here. Sure this will be a big help. Thank you 🙏👍💖
Tbh I‘m kinda worried about my digestive system as I get older. I‘m 21 now and sometimes I lose a ton of sleep because I feel like I need to go to the toilet even if I don’t or because of stomach problems. I don‘t exactly know if this fits into the topic though. But definitely need to work on it before I get too old.
good food and a good balance of eating and not eating (fasting) helps, in combination with low stress, good quality sleep, hydration and daily movement ✌️
Yes I know what you are saying I suffer with this like my muscles from anal surgery are so tight now that I literally feel like I’m Sitting on a ball all day it’s so exhausting but I’m going to try these methods see if they work.
Hi sir thank you for your video , I have a concern ,, if I take this routine I've tried it and I exceeded 23 seconds I guest in my holding breathe is that okay thank you hope you notice
Hey, I meditated on this and it sure does make more sense that you moovie with your breath, so when you breathe in and are at top then you begin to retract the muscle.. tried doing this while doing pushups aswell and what works best for me is that i push up to relaxed form when breathing in and get down when breathing out so most tension when breath is at bottom.
Hi thanks for the video! I feel like I have to skip this one though as my anal muscles already seem too tight due to kegels in the past and I think this area is actually traumatised for me. I can no longer feel the front end of my pelvic floor, only the rear end. Do you have any suggestions or sessions focusing on pelvic floor rehab? I would be most greatful if so! Many thanks guys peace 💜

I also find there's more muscle memory with ongoing breath. I wonder why they show it with the breath hold...
I was just thinking the same!

Very likely
