Congrats on the lathe project .. & SUPER CONGRATS on the new baby ! Sorry to hear the news on yur Dad , Hope all pans out to where he can get better .. Prayers are going his way !! Thumbs up man..
Enjoyed the series very much. I definitely learned alot from watching. Sorry to hear about your father's cancer, but congrats on becoming a father! That's a big deal
The lathe looks great. Very nice work. Best wishes for your dad's treatment. I really hope he gets through it. Congratulations on becoming a dad. You will love being a father. It's the best thing ever. My son is soon to turn 20. He loves it when we talk about things we built together and we have a lot of pictures of him helping out. I'm pretty sure this would be true also if I'd have had a daughter.
Thank you! My father used to bring me to work with him when I was a kid. He used to own a canteen truck and I have pictures of me with the change belt working the lockbox

What a roller coaster of emotions, man. I hope you Father gets through allright. It all depends on the type and stage of evolution of the cancer, and it's allways good to know a new life is being brought into this world.
Nice job Greg, I'm in the middle of one myself...thanks for taking the effort! Crap, sent too soon...my condolences to your Father, keeping him in my thoughts...(I'm a thinker, not a prayer). And congrats on the upcoming child, you have a lot going on in your life with your newly done lathe...kids are the bestest in the world! ;)
Looks very nice now...:) Hope to use it in many years to come and wish you and your familie comes out of any problems that this world throw at you....:)
I don't think I've ever seen you so happy, in spite of your father's health. You'll find yourself that fatherhood is the best thing that ever happened to you.
Looks like a classic, really nice. I'd be tempted to let it sit for a while and admire it until it got it's first visible layer of dust :-). That should be long enough for the paint to fully cure. Sounds like life is full for you at the moment. Enjoy the ride.
Sorry about the news of your dad, but if your dad's attitude sounds the way you explained, he's right. You gotta live your life living. Our prayers are with you and your family for better health and good luck. Congrats on the pregnancy! But if you know your shit, in the way your video content conveys, even with the news you shared with us, we have confidence you'll be a good son, and a good father. EXCELSIOR!
Bought this same lathe today. From a battleship in world war 2. Mine has some wear in the bed also. How does the lathe perform with the wear in the bed? Are you able to still produce fairly accurate parts?
I've been watching your refurb videos because I have just became the proud owner of a 1941 13" 113-B!!! Great job, I will be using them for reference for sure! I am hoping you might be able to answer a couple questions. I don't think I noticed where you described your process of actually cleaning up the rust and other gunk on the parts. What did you use? Also, I haven't decided on a paint color yet (I'm trying to determine the original color and may just use that) but what did you use for paint? And did you ever find reproduction placards for the gear selector on the single tumbler box?
go here and fast foreward to the 19 min mark. That's how I cleaned the bare metal surfaces. Purple power can and will remove paint. i filled a tub with high concentration purple power and water and let the parts soak overnight. this got most paint off. Whatever was left usually came off with a hand wire brush. Paint was sherman williams all surface enamel paint matched to the southbend greyish green. d
If I remembered right you were looking for some pictures, or information for a drawbar set up. I found this link that may help; www.enginads.com/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/143748/cat/18
I agree, I liked doing it but would NEVER do i again, way too much work, I would have been better off buying a cleaner newer lathe then do this nonsense LOL
Great looking machines. Nice work. Thank you for sharing.

By the way, if you have a boy, teach him how to use the machines. If you have a girl, teach _her_ how to use them.
I'd mcount winning the lottery right up there too. Waiting for that to happen.....

The lathe looks wicked good, lol
good job !
Nice job Brad....
I think you meant "Greg"! But Brad would probably take that as a compliment...LOL
Is joke....
Ok, I profess, I didn't get or understand it. Must be something lost in translation...as I didn't see the humor...:-/
He had a board behind him with a count of how many times he was called Brad in the comments...
Oh, I missed that...now it's funny...LOL :)
Bee-yoo-tiful! Almost too good to use.

GREAT VIDEO - DAD !! :-)
Nice.
Papa Greg!
Greg what size stock do you need for your back plate I probably have something in the scrap bin would be happy to send it your way
The chuck register is 4.750" and spindle threads are 1.5" long
So like 6x2 ?? What would u want it in...I'd say I have 1045 4140 an cast maybe some 1018 also
Yeah that's be more than enough for size. Cast would be great if you have it. If not 1045 will definately do. :-)
Is that 13" lathe single or three phase?
3 Phase with a 208volt VFD
It's stripping the paint that I really, really, really hate. Someday I will figure out an easy way to strip paint.
Yeah it does suck. The paint strippers like peel away and citristrip work real well, you just need to be willing to make an absolute mess.
