Onew has been open over the years with his struggles with depression but this is the first time of him covering that subject in a song and music video.
the song, lyrics-wise, already obliged one to think; now coupled that with how it was presented through the MV. brave act for Onew to have Circle as the title track. the song is beautiful, out of the ordinary. [PS: totally on the same thought about the 5 members, having different colors in their individual music, but being able to sound one as SHINee.]
That is true you'd think how different they are and to be able to accomplish music together is amazing. They really must compromise and work together to make music happen to satisfy all 5 of them.
You absolutely hit the nail on the head with this analysis. "The man can sound like sunshine and the man can sound like rain". So absolutely right. And both sounds dit you straight in the heart.
A mind f*** absolutely. I love his courage going with this composition. Great to see Shinee growing as artists. Can't wait to see Taemin in a few weeks. If Don't Call Me surprised you.. what will the next comeback be like. I really enjoyed your reaction/analysis.
maybe it's just me but I feel that there are so many emotions in this song and everything that moves a person to action and sounds and space and emptiness that we all fill and nature is so healing
onew i already known for his slower songs andd ballads but I am so impressed how he reinvent himself in his own way. At first I also didn't know how to feel about the song but the more I listen to it the more I like it. The b-sides are closer to what he usually does and it makes perfectly sense to me that he chose circle as the titel song.
I was definitely SHOOK! By the imagery for sure, when it was done, I was so sad, touched, moved, and stunned. Onews voice is so beautiful and the song left me happy yet sad. He looks so beautiful as well, are these men aging backwards? Anyways I am going to rewatch many times with lyrics and without. He made a beautiful piece of art. I love Onew! 💎💎💎💎💎
The opening and closing music sounded very much like the composer Philip Glass, which immediately brings to mind the 1983 experimental film 'Koyaanisqatsi' (check it out if you haven't seen it) which was also about the great circle of life, the subject of the song's lyrics. This song has greater depths than we realize.
Thank you for your reaction and interpretation Circle also altered my brain chemistry hahaha Circle is magnificent I agree with what you said that Onew can sound like sunshine and rain I also found it fascinating that key and onew releasing music that is so different in just a span of 3 weeks, it really is a miracle that SHINee is a harmonious perfect group when they consist of 5 different people with their own distinct personality and music style
I burst into tears. He used to read a lot of science. But, Way also has a lot of similar themes... It reminds me of Everything Everywhere All at Once...
Liked what you said about sunshine and rain. He looks all bubbly and smiley outside but there's a bit of rain and turbulence inside, hopefully there'll be more of sunshine inside in the days to come. But compared to blue, this title track feels more of an acceptance
I'm guessing the "child show" you mentioned was Mr. Rogers' show. Because I kinda felt it. Though I didn't grew up watching Mr. Rogers show, it was way before I was even born. But I have watched the documentary on him. And I loved that a show was there to help kids of that time know and deal about the different sometimes joy & fun but sometimes harsh and tragic aspects of life, all the while by being honest and gentle about it. And I think the similar thing is being achieved through this mv.
This song actually does have choreo. You can find fancams of him performing it at his recent (a day ago, haha) concert, or you can wait until his first music show performance of Circle on the 9th. Not to spoil, but the choreography is stunning and does add another layer of interpretation to the song.
It's important to remember that Onew is at his musical peak. I love all your albums and I can listen to each one depending on my day to day life. Now, I'll add something about symbolism in the MV (I saw this online, so credit goes to other people). The bunnies represent Onew, the toy dinosaurs for our Angel Dino, the keys for Key, the soccer ball for Mr. Sports Minho and the mushrooms resemble Taemin's bowl haircut from his rookie days. Many wonder how these four men can stay together. Simple, they followed Dino last wish.S HInne forever and ever, hugs from Brazil. 🔷🔷🔷
this was a VERY big theme of life and time. so much so , that it even can become a little not-personal, because when you say "we all go through it" it's very big. you have to dig deeper to get the heart of what HE really feels. it felt very BIG. i don't know how else to say it. i don't really know what he feels? was it a sad song, or a perseverance or happy? i don't know yet 😄 it is so weird how different these four men are. and i really wonder how they will come together this year. WHAT will it sound like? Onew is just PRECIOUS. his voice and his style is just so breathtakingly gorgeous. 💕
I just learned the song was written by lyricist Kim Eana, famous longtime collaborator with IU. Kim wrote the IU songs 'Secret', 'Obliviate', 'Dear Name' and others.
Ahhh Tors1e I feel the same. I'm kind of "what?!" about the MV. I think I'll watch it frame by frame too. Thank you once again for a lovely, thought provoking reaction.
Comments coming your way. I like your thoughts on the video and I need to watch it a few more times myself. I didn't think about the Truman show, but that's an interesting analogy. Also, what you said about their vocals, which I know you've said before. Yes, each member has their own distinct voice and vision. It might seem like they would clash, but the beauty is when blended together, they're heavenly and chill inducing (in the best way).
Okay TORS1E my second comment has to do with the video itself and everyone, please let me know if I'm reading too much into this. There were several fast views of objects in different areas. One showed a windowsill with toy dinosaurs lined up, maybe Onew's way of including our angel with the "Dino" nickname?
Yeah, there's a few theories floating around on Twitter that every SHINee member is represented in the song: the toy dinosaurs (Jonghyun), keys (Key), soccer ball (Minho), and mushrooms (Taemin, for his iconic debut-era hairstyle).
@@tokki_bunch Knowing SHINee, that would make sense it would be a subtle, yet beautiful, gesture. I saw the soccer ball but I didn't really think about it and I'll have to look for the keys and mushrooms. It seems more than a coincidence that these objects were used, out of the literally thousands they could choose from.
I wonder if it’s a symbol of childhood being messed up - or something once being sweet and pure, like a cute hand puppet (or young performer,) now worn out and tired

Touching song, and lyric had indepth meaning. Need to digest. Onew sang the song so beautifully and the feels 😭😭

That cellphone with the blood and cracks and “ I’m fine “ 😩😭

Great point, Philip Glass' music was also used in The Truman Show which Tors1e mentioned.
Thank you for your reaction and interpretation

Yeah this song somehow changes the mood and makes us think.. Love this comeback and yeah SHINee is awesome or their uniqueness ♥
I had to come here for answers. You are so good at interpreting videos. I think you picked up on some good key points. Thank you for the insight.

Omg I totally agree! The comeback will be epic as they all emote different feels . But THIS shook me. In a sad happy beautiful way. 💎

Thank you for your insights and interpretation! I was really puzzling over this video, too. The Truman show comparison is interesting!
This song is a masterpiece🥹
💛

I'm not sure if that cat was real 🧩
Wow insightful reaction ❤
I really need to know what that freaky cat is about though. Also the bit where he’s being filmed gives me Mr Roger’s vibes.
I wonder if it’s a symbol of childhood being messed up - or something once being sweet and pure, like a cute hand puppet (or young performer,) now worn out and tired
@TORS1E From what has been said, it has to do with the directors cat that had passed away recently, I may be wrong but that is what I have heard.
Tq for ur reaction 🥺😍 jinki isss amazing
