If the outer cable rubber is frayed and inner cables intact (which is common), use one layer of electrical insulating tape wrapped tightly, then over wrap with plumber’s PTFE to form a tight layer extending either side of the repair. It’s neat and easy and seems to last.
I swear.. Apple is cruel to even make these kind of adapters with a frickin thin wire at one end that is so easily broken just to force u to keep buying another one.. Apple needs to be sued!!!
Omg it worked!!! I didn‘t have any special tools, just a scissor, some tape and a thin wire I used instead of solder, but it still worked and I can charge my computer until the new charger arrives. Thank you so much!
i was able to reuse the cable gasket thingy doing my repair. i drilled it out from the base with a 1/8" bit. it was messy and awkward, but eventually i had a nice clean hole through the hard plastic part, and it lined up nicely and cleaned all the cable out of the soft part without damaging it. i then went in with a larger (3/16" i think?) bit and countersunk just the hard plastic part, to clean out the wire remnants embedded in the molding, and i was able to feed the original cable through (only after cleanly cutting it thought!). it's definitely more work, and you need to cut the wires really short as there's less space available if you do it this way, but it's definitely doable!
A "construction hairdryer" - now all I can think about is builders on a building site, all power-drying their flowing locks in slow motion (whilst pouting)...
Thank you! Hope it works, will try it now x) - it workeed! I didn't use any special tool, just a nail cutter and black tape, it doesn’t look as nice but will work until I get a new one. Tks!
Thanks for the video - I found your comment about avoiding perfectionism particularly relevant to these repair jobs. It will never look like new again... As long as its safe and functional, mission accomplished. My repair is a temporary solution for a few days until the new one arrives. I'll hang on to the repaired unit as a backup.
This can be prevented. And nothing to disassemble is not necessary. Here's a video: ruclips.net/video/H4jI2RKn_ic/видео.html Translation is not needed. It is enough to look.
Nice tutorial. If one puts the heat gun standing on its back, blowing the heat towards the sealing, you have both hands to hold your work-piece, and easily adjusting the angle and distance by moving it rather than the gun.
So the centre wire goes to white, and the outer shield goes to black. That's all I've been trying to find out! I'm not sure how you know that or whether it was a good guess.
Now I doing repair on a charger. Some of the things lshrink sleeve is not available here in India. For I have go for alternate arrangements. One more problem on the connector side of MACBOOK, is how to check whether the connector is OK.By continuity Chek, can we ascertained whether it is OK.canyou explain in next video?
Just finished the swap out. Plugged it in and attached to MacBookPro. The light on the end lit-up green but flashes -- it flashes briefly at 2-sec interval. The Charge lightning bolt on the screen goes on and off in time with the green light as it goes on and off. Thoughts?
Sorry, I don't know enough about the error codes on your particular mac book. This repair is definitely a hack and results are not guaranteed. I have come to terms with having to replace my laptop every 5-6 years.
My MacBook pro/2011 needed two chargers in the middle of 2014 I bought a new MacBook, in 2016 I was bound to buy a new charger for it. Today 22 September 2018 I will be obliged to buy another one so the third charger for this MacBook. How on earth Apple is not ashamed of this problem, no other brands of PC having this problem, the charger's cables have the same life as the computers, I do not speak about the price of a new charger, a real shame so as far as I'm concerned in seven-year I will have bought 3 battery chargers for 2 MacBook. If it was not so expensive it would be laughable!
electrical grade solder has flux inside already. You don't need external flux. Everyone is using external flux these days on YT, hardly ever needed in the past, its just "a thing" now.
God I really hope this works. I have a 10 week old cocker spaniel...... kinda was really focused on my screen and didn't notice he completely DESTROYED my charger... which is also my dad's..... paniced.... clicked on this.... I'ma go try it before my dad comes in :,)
You don't need to own all of these. Instead make some handy friends. These are repairs that will cost you a beer and you can spend bonus quality time with knowledgeable people.
I had all these tools already so I was able to keep my macbook pro running without even waiting a day for amazon prime to deliver a new one. Point is to already have these tools at your disposal, you can get a cheap soldering iron for like $5-10 at Walmart so either way it's faster and cheaper than buying a replacement, plus saves on landfill waste.
Good heavens man, use heat to get the case halves apart without breaking everything. And desolder leads from the main pcb board and not hack into them. This video is a good example of what not to do! I stopped watching after you started "unraveling" the shielding!!
thanks, I bought a new one after 10 min watching....
lol

@@TelstarTAK Thanks, worked for me!

thats what i thought to do not to mess with this bad looking shrink tube

Hair care is important on the construction site too. This video is what happens when stoners make instructional videos
Very careful, clear and thorough! Appreciate the additional explanation behind why you do each step.

bro, please reply, i need help
Worked like magic no stress. Thank youuuuu bro
Thank you so much for this tutorial. This helped a lot and I was able to fix my charger 😊

It is basically a coaxial cable, the inner wire is positive and the outer wire or shielding is negative.
Beautiful explanation and wonderfully done.Thank you.

That's plumbing flux... used for copper plumbing, not for electronics. It's corrosive. Rosin core solder should be sufficient.
It is, but luckily he didn't show us his plumber's crack :)
Thank you so much! It worked!!!
Hello! Can I use a simple hair dryer or it need to be a special for this?? Btw, thanks for the tutorial! :)
You got to use a Construction Hair Dryer, like he says in the Video. It has to be made of Concrete...re-bar....the works !!!
Nice 👌 But which wire goes where inside the box? I'm assuming the outer thick core is connected to the black wire inside the box.
I used two spanners to part the brick.
thank you i was able to fix my mom's charger instead of buying her a new one

Hello, where do you put the small metal piece at the bottom left (18 minutes) ?
Great thx!!!! To Repair is good for the planet
Great Video. I am just gonna buy a new one. But if I had more time.and give a damn, you video would be perfect.
Very nice work!
Thank you😊😊😊😊❤
im watching this with 14 percent while knowing this wont work while looking at the charger if it ever turns green);
same literally at 14%
It worked very nicely for 2 or 3 full charges..then all of the sudden it is not working anymore.. what could it be?

Basically all of Apple's peripherals are shit.
Nice. That worked, thanks.

21:21 minutes of my life I wish I can get back...
they dont put screws on it,that the people go directly to buy a new one just for 100 box

Different mindset. The aim is to own an array of tools that you can use for various projects. You build your toolbox with each project
You don't need to own all of these. Instead make some handy friends. These are repairs that will cost you a beer and you can spend bonus quality time with knowledgeable people.
I just bought a soldering iron (comes with all sorts of cool shit) for €23. A new charger costs €82. I think it’s worth it.

Great job man! Thanks
It worked... thanks
Thank you, very helpful!
Thank you boss
Instead of investing in all the tools it will be much economical to buy a new charger
Madre del amor hermoso, menuda chapuza.
Nice, but very messy job! most people that buy a mac do it for the hype so I'm pretty sure they won't want a charger looking like that.
Not me
Olivier! Grâce à toi j'aurai un chargeur tout neuf.
My dog just chewed up the code. I am fucked up right now.
GUYS DONT JUST PUT TIN IT WORKS FOR ME?
👍🏼 🇧🇷
Absolute trash by Apple. Tried fixing and bought 3 replacements already. Pure garbage product
Very nice... Thanks...

какой колхоз и как не аккуратно!
Иван Геронимов согласен, проще припаяться сразу к плате
No just no.
Only a nub uses Flux
