I never was interested in the jaw harp until I stumbled across your channel. I'm a drummer, but now I'm really interested in trying my hand at the jaw harp. Good videos. Keep it up
Thank You! I have been fortunate to have a regular paid gig every week, where I talk about the Jaw harp’s history in a Museum then I play for the audience for 5 minutes. I bought the Masko Average Jaw Harp about a year ago, based on your recommendation in this video . I just want to say THANK YOU it is the absolute BEST Jaw Harp I have owned! 😊
I have False Teeth and those who have them too (or fewer teeth) know the Lowers are 'Floaters' that can make it hard to play the Jaw Harp as most. "DAN MOI" has in the 'Accessories' area devices that can compensate. I have added Wooden/Metal tabs (on top) where the rope can make contact with the Harps reed.
Thank you for all your wisdom. Your videos are very great. Your also a good teacher and Watched several hours of your videos. Learning alot. Feel in love with mouth harps. My old one was to soft. Waiting on a cheap one. Looking got a great professional quality. Also looking for suggestions for hand pan drums... Thank you
Any chance you could link the second one? The "Bass Tatarston?" For those of us who want to buy one but I'm having trouble finding it myself, probably I'm hearing the name wrong.
Of 3 I own, excepting a couple Dan Moi, I prefer my Glazyrin (Arrow). Its so just right. I also give top marks to my spacey Glazyrin Uranus. Its so low mid range and chunky. The third place is a smaller one, I forget the name, it has a problem, lol yet is a bit higher pitch, plays well but for slight dischordance which I'm getting used to. The Arrow is by far the loudest clearest, finest resonance and I cant wait for the Batman to arrive as Batman is crafted by the same artisan who makes the Arrow.... 😝✨💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
I have had a old harp my grandfather had since ww2 I try every technique i have seen i can it get the loud twang I want can a harp lose its tune after time?
Sounds like a cherished family heirloom. Always keep that one. The reality of many older instruments is that they were never really as loud and sensitive give as the hyper sensitive modern harps. Always keep that family heirloom, but maybe also invest in a newer more advanced instrument. Check out theharpery.com.
i have two of snoopys harps that came out when the peanuts movie came out.l have had it since highschool.one is broke in good the other is a spare.🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
Just a question: Seeing how many are brass, do they have lead? Reason I ask is from homebrewing. I was made aware that brass many times contains lead that can be surface washed with a vinegar/peroxide solution. Maybe they use a lead free brass? Not sure, maybe you know about anything like this.
+Joe Average I have had this thought as well. So I went to a hardware store and bought a swab kit made for testing lead paint. i swabbed my brass harps and none of them tested positive for lead. Beyond that I don't have any way of testing.
I don't know the name of my first vintage harp... It's my favorite because it's my very first Jawharp ever and I love it..I'll just name it Vintage Angelsharpery...What ya think? Good name*
Great channel that you have! Great information, thanks!. You asked for our favorite Jaw Harps - my favorite is the "Wizard" (Kudesnik) from Eugene Volgutov, Chakassia, (purchased at khomus.com). It is not tuned, but appears to be a low A. Very rich in overtones, brutal hard tongue. I use this mostly when recording myself (eg. "Dunke Materie", can be found on my channel). My other favorite is from Egor Mandarov, Yakutia, not tuned either, appears to be a high G. Also from khomus.com. My next favorite is a Parmupill sold by the band Trad Attack, made by an Estonian Master. It is tuned to high A. Very nice when playing fast as I can. When I comp a pub band, then I use the range of the tuned Jaw Harps from Schlütter, Germany, from G to G. Not costly at all, good for this purpose. And I like very much my Dorombs from Szilágyi, Hungary.
It is not an easy harp to play fast because of the long reed and tight gaps. The reed are high quality steel and will last a long time with proper play. If you want to play fast in Glazyrin, I reccomend the alpha or Batman, which I have both in stock in my store. Short me a message on FB. I am, “The Harpery.”
What was the first harp in this video? I literally just clicked on a video and now I absolutely want one! Just subscribed and everything but where can I purchase the your 5th favorite harp in this video??
Kevin Moser mark poss at mouthmusic.com has them in stock with 2 day shipping in the US. Tell him that I sent you. Also if you are after other fine vargan, like on this list I keep many of them in stock with fast shipping in the US. Message my store, “The Harpery,” on FB.
Hello. Here is a link to my channel. ruclips.net/channel/UCOOem6oqjS2HGRGlZaPGVFw There should be plenty of videos to keep you busy. Here is one of my tutorials. ruclips.net/video/0AvFpmE35sg/видео.html I also have a store on facebook called, "The Harpery," where I sell beginner to high quality harps with 3 day shipping in the United States and also have international shipping. Be sure to hit subscribe to see my videos when they are fresh out the oven. Thanks for watching. -This guy-
Please explain, when playing the jew's harp, do you need to put your teeth on top and bottom on the decks, or do you just need to press the decks on the side of the teeth?
I wish you'd written the names somewhere; I cannot understand the names when you say them, so I cannot find them. You have so many harps and well considered opinions that I really wish this video were useful :(
Bebbcorp Harpery, thanks I liked it so much I had to order one. That website was like playing Tetris blindfolded but I think I managed. Now the wait, which I'm guessing might be a few weeks to deliver? Hopefully, it will come on a random Wednesday when I least expect it as a surprise. Like, "What's this? Ohhh, that JH I ordered last month" haha.

Nice video , someone broke in my car and stole my "star" harp ! They probally didnt even know what it was. I gotta order another , its time to get back to pluckin !
Bebbcorp Harpery Sounds good, its always nice to see how preferences change especially from someone that buys & plays a lot of harps :) I've only got a handful myself and sure as hell wouldn't record my playing but I do treat myself once in a while :)
@@LofiBtz I think you were wrong, I doubted your comment because I don't think he loved himself; I just think that that he's the only person that could.

Nope, not a trophy. Trophy jaw harps are rebranded snoopy harps. The snoopy doesn’t make much sound, has little to no sensitivity, and are quite uncomfortable to play.
Bla Blubbi I love your honesty. The harp is the song of you. Play what you want to hear and share it with the world. What is your song? Find it and once that you have it, it will transform into something different. Wherever it takes you, it will always be your song. Enjoy the music that you enjoy now.
Thanks, like your way to cope with my opinion, too. I think I am very picky, when it comes to music. And what I noticed about jaws harp players: they make music that has a rhythm of it's own and I am not a music expert, but it seems to be not the usual 3/4 or 4/4. Maybe it is that? For me, I try to figure out rhythms that sound more like common rock or electro music I think. So for me it is more "catchy". But maybe I just don't get the point of what you do and it's my fault. I don't understand classical music either most of the times...
You should put them in the description as well bro. Maybe get some affiliate links.

watch south indians, called the Morsing. they apply south indian rhythm, probably the most advanced system in the world, on the jaw harp.

Love the sound of that harp you made! I just started learning how to play, your videos help a lot.
I actually think the one you made sounds the best. Nice and loud. You wouldn't be willing to make another for sale would you?

Yeah def a good choice on number 1 - well done!
I think the harps you make sound as good as the harps made by other people the harps you make it holds it's own

All of these are for the upcoming 2019 NAJH festival in Oregon June 26-30. I will be selling harps I make in the future.

Just a question not hate I just want to know why you move your eyebrows and your right eye when you play
I don’t have a great answer for that. I am lost in the music and sometimes forget I am on camera. It is like a vacation.
