- Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the conditions of complete and incomplete Spinal Cord Injury.
With a complete spinal cord injury, the patient will develop complete motor and sensory loss below the level of the injury. No sacral sparing. No motor or sensory below the level of the lesion after the disappearance of the spinal shock and the return of the bulbocavernosus reflex. The physician will be unable to differentiate between a complete and incomplete injury during spinal shock. The spinal shock usually lasts 24-72 hours (hypotension & bradycardia).
With complete injury, one cervical root could recover in 80%. Two nerve roots may recover in some patients.
Incomplete injury: check for sacral sparing. Preservation of any sensory or motor function indicates an incomplete lesion. The most important prognostic factor for recovery is the severity of the neurological deficit.
Central cord syndrome
Caused by a hyperextension injuy. It has a favorable prognosis but poor recovery of the hand function. The lesion occurs in the central part of the spinal cord and the grey matter. The injury can be caused by minimal trauma in the elderly, usually caused by osteophytes. The spinal cord will become compressed between the ligamentum flavum and the intervertebral disc or a bony spur. The injury causes an upper motor neuron lesion in the lower extremity and a lower motor neuron lesion in the upper extremity. Motor weakness is more severe in the upper extremities compared to the lower extremities.
Anterior cord syndrome
There will be complete motor paralysis and impairment of the sensory function. The damage occurs in the anterior part of the spinal cord due to vascular insufficiency or mechanical compressions such as form a bony spur or a fracture. Anterior cord syndrome has the worst prognosis. With anterior cord syndrome, the corticospinal tract is affected and there is a very low chance of motor recovery (only 15% will show functional recovery). Anterior cord syndrome is usually a result of a flexion/compression injury and damage to the spinal cord is usually in the anterior 2/3 of the cord. The lower extremities are affected more than the upper extremities. The posterior column is spared with position, proprioception and sense of vibration not being affected.
The anterior syndrome is different from central cord syndrome- central cord syndrome is caused by a hyperextension injury.
Brown sequard syndrome
Brwon sequard syndrome has the best prognosis with 90% recovery. It is caused by hemisection of the spinal cord usually due to penetrating trauma. There will be ipsilateral deficit of the motor function, proprioception, vibration and deep touch. There will be contralateral loss of pain and temperature and the spinothalamic tract crosses at the spinal cord.
Posterior cord syndrome
This syndrome is very rare and is associated with loss of proprioception, deep touch and vibration. The motor, pain, temperature, and light touch are preserved.

Hi. I've been paralyzed for 25 years now. Great quality of life. Wish this was available in 91. I'm a C5-C6 incomplete. Peace and love to all!! Keep pushing onwards. Keep negative people and energy away from you. Vent when needed. Try not to stay down.

Thank you for this clear and well presented slide show.
You' ve cut it short.
Basically word for word related patient displays on Physical Rehab practice test questions. This is a very useful visual understanding of the incomplete SCIs.
You are an absolute LEGEND in this thing Sir!
Thank you.
This make my neuro subject much easier, thank you
This music has a sick back for learning Incomplete and Complete Spinal Cord Injury.
Really nice and thanks for the information.
Great educational video.Thank you TEACHER.

Hi bro ! I hope you are doing well .
Thanks for posting! Very well detailed.
the videos really help me in understanding the spinal cord injuries syndrom
Excellent video, thanks for posting, much appreciated : )
Important subject great presented.
Thank you so much Sir!! Expect more such videos from you.
When the fuck they going to cure spinal cord injury? I want my life back
capnhands facts
We do have experimental replacements. They are wires that act as replacement nerves. If that is too risky, then we have fully-operational brain-controlled prosthetic limbs. This is assuming that you are only paralyzed from the waist down.
Science 2020 are these successful or not
Beyblade Burst India. They do work.
Science 2020 is it expensive
Good education material... it is useful to understand some SCIs...
Hope to hear more from you doc, are you have any educ material for Slipped Disc and HNP?
Very helpful thank you
best treatment of spinal cord injury
I’m a C-4/C-5 incomplete and I am 7 years post injury. I am ambulatory with a single forearm crutch although I can walk unaided slowly. My balance is limited but present and the right side of my body is weak with little hand function and foot drop. All muscles have function but some are more limited than others. I have bladder function for the most part and limited bowel function.
what is your accident ?
thank you so much !
appreciate it, thank you...
Thanks doc, this is GREAT :-)
Nice video! Thanks!
Great Video
Excellent work. Thank you for posting. Happy New Year 2013 as I look forward to more of your great videos.
C4-C5 here. I’ve been bed ridden for over 7 years now. I’ve worked with multiple "physical therapists". Used to be able to sit in a chair but have lost strength in my torso since. Something tells me I would have recovered more had I been in the states.
thank you for the video :)
great effort.... nice informations.........
thanks

My mother and I both have Syringomyelia at T4-L1 or L2. We were involved in a high impact rear end collision. A 15 passenger van hit us while we were at a complete stop. The van was going 55mph. Could this be the cause of the Syringomyelia? Neither of us have Chiari Malformation

amazing vedio
Hey doctor I just want to ask why my back keeps on cracking on the sides everytime I walk
Like I you're here from Ryan Shaziers injury
I can't get any doctor to test me. Last MRI was done about 7 months ago. Car accident almost a year ago. Spine was fine before accident. After, discs butting up against spinal cord, vertebraes shifted out of place, left foraminal stenosis, bilaterial foraminal stenosis, central canal stenosis ( neck ). Neurosugeon said he would not do any surgery. In the past few months my upper arms have wasted away and hands are wasting, arms are weak tingling burning numibsh, can't breathe from upper chest anymore, only can belly breath ( and those muscles are wasting ), my breathing will stop on it's on- it gets shallow and shallow and stops completely and won't pick up by itself- i have to focus on breathing so when it stops I bring it back, go unscoinscius and breathing stops, i legs burn tingle and are numb, hip pain, pain in esopghagus on swallowing.. feel pain in chest, spine and breasts when swallowing food/water, belly feels numb on the inside - i can touch it and feel it. burning organ pain. can feel pain in intestines and stomach. Laying down feels like I'm laying on a broom stock. Pain in spine, neck shoulder pain. I can't get any doctor to MRI my spine ( i feel the damage is alraedy done and keeps continuing damage ) can't even get doc to give me oxygen to help breath or cpap/bpap. Docs think I'm crazy. I had done tons of horrendous coughting and when I did I felt zaps in my spine.. soon after couldn't feel my chest muscles at all or feel air going in them. Legs went numb. Like my brain can't' send messages to body. i could walk so far and brain gets lost and doesn't know what to do. Does anyone else have similar symptoms ? How do you cope with body weakness, inability to chest breathe. I only get little puffs of air in and then it completely stops. brain tingles and burns.. by head feels like a bowling ball on a toothpick of a spine. When I stand up.. I feel weakness in my brain instantly and from waist down feels weak when standing. abdomen muscles became weak.. burning tingling upper chest, upper arms. Neuro, docs don't help me at all.
Please go to Psychiatric immediately first....then go to spine surgeon and neurology.....you will b alright... please don't worry.....go to above doctors
when i release the ball then my soinal card injury injury

Cool I hope the feeling returns! I'm a complete paraplegic since 1978 lost use of both limbs legs! Been so much progress since my injury still no cure! I'm aging and the pain from 2 spinal fusion have caused intense pain but I will not give up not today as we never know what we will face the next day! Live in the present and laugh often!
The unfortunate accident were happens at 29/4/2017 from that time till today my sons faces loss of sensation in lower umblical region and uncontrollable urine and bowl movement two bullets were fired one deposit in lung (due to which pnumohemorhorax occurs ) and another one loddged in d9-d10 column after fracturing spinal bone.my son admitted in hospital for one week approximately, both bullets keep remain in the body as per dr advice that there is risk of bleeding and these bullets causes no any infection as they're sterile,my son discharge frm hospital with chest drains intact which now removed, nowdays we're using folley catheter for urine and pamper for bowl ,my son rarely sat on wheel chair as he suffer pain, pain killers and multivitamins tab given, regular physical therapy done of lower body ,but we didn't use any rehabilitation program yet moreover lungs, liver and kidney condition is ok now
How is your son now ?

After my experience with tumor resection c6-c8, I have completely lost trust and respect for doctors, to be honest in entire medical profession.
@@CharlotteRollsOn They lied to me on many occasions to convince me to have a surgery, I was not aware how much my life will change (or rather end). The med and rehabilitation phase afterwards was so unprofessional, I also tried private path, similar story, my wishful thinking plus theirs lies gave me a hope for recovery. Now I know, that whatever you regain in first two years, that's pretty much it, and then it's over. So my status is, 30m per day with crutches at home, out of home using only wheelchair. From armpits down, almost no sensation, temperature I can feel only on right part of my body. Spasticity from ribs, down to calfs. Not responding to classical medication baclofen, tizanidine. I'm in pain 24/7, it's since 4.5 years, I have impression that due to chronic pain, body learned to ignore it to some degree, let's say decreased on the scale. How about you, c3 is quite high. You probably follow progress on Nervgen's Nvg-291. There is bit of hope.
My brother is Parallyzed because of spinal cord injury from almost 6 years.

I cane here because of Me Before You
Even tho Brown's is the best one, despite any injury's bad, I'm still baffled as to why/how this one's the Rarest??
shak because its on the inside of the spine so that is the least likely to get damaged it is nearer to centre of the body
TY!!

Help, my doctor didn't give me a clear diagnosis (medication in my current country is bad) and I don't know what to call my injury,
I'm a teen and am a very stupidly active person. I fell from a height of about 10 feet and landed on sand with my feet. My friends took me to a public hospital before contacting my mom 3 hours later. Now, the lower part of my backbone hurts asf. I got a CT scan, and my doctor didn't explain the details. I googled it and the 1st Lumbar vertebrae is fractured, the inner part was squished, probably anterior. He just told me what to do and what not to do but I want to know my diagnosis.
I can move and feel but I can't lift both my legs at the same time when lying down. I can stand straight and sit down but I can't bend forward. Can someone please tell me which injury this is similar to? Or is it just called a bone fracture?
