    I have no doubts at all about your ability to bring your unique voice and perspective to a documentary project. It's quite evident that all of this is meaningful to you, and I think that's why you've seen the growth that you have.
    You have a considered, honest and savvy approach to the videos you've been making for the past few years, even the early vlogs!, and the strides you been making in production value, focused, highly entertaining, and educational content in 2019 have been brilliant.
    Thank you James.

  • @lazarus6125

    Unsolicited idea for the channel:
    I saw a picture online about baking, a series of photos explaining what putting too much of one ingredient in a cookie recipe. I would love a similar style “troubleshooting” video to help an absolute beginner like me trouble shoot what I’m doing wrong.
    I like wine and cigars so I’ve taught myself how to taste, I just need it explaining to me what increase in acidity would be due to for example, or a stale taste in fresh coffee.
    I feel that with this video I would be developing the basic skills to apply to start standardising my overall method and technique so I can then add more variables like grind fineness, different blends and eventually water mineral content.
    Love the channel, your presenting style and the edit, stylish and interesting. Keep it up!

    I think a number of those who voted yes to a 2020 prediction video (myself included) are just keen for as much content as possible. There are surprisingly few channels that discuss the world of coffee in as much detail, while staying clear and digestible, as this one.
    I’d be extremely excited for a James Hoffmann Coffee documentary, definitely hope that’s something you pursue in the (near) future.
    Thanks for all the great videos.

      Agree. Choosing about eight to ten very interesting and widely available coffees (across Europe and the globe as there’s no point to point out the ultra rare beans reserved almost exclusively for competitions) and explaining why they are so noteworthy would be a lovely inspiration for forthcoming brews. Also, I would love to watch a deeper analysis of omnipresent latte art obsession; in my view, this mania is particularly appaling (result is almost universally thin, watery and uninteresting cappuccino even in the very serious coffee shops around Europe). When doing cappuccino, cafe latte, or flat white myself, the pretty picture is rather secondary to me and mere a by-product of perfectly steamed and poured (velvety, smooth, silky) milk. I am afraid there’s no end to this in a foreseeable future though.

    I like all your content, so not mad about not being entirely review based. That being said, I don't know of any good, consistent consumer level coffee review channels, particularly those that are consistently reviewing consumer level espresso machines and grinders and such (that aren't also trying to sell you that same gear) to help average home baristas make buying decisions. I think there'd be a market for that (though I don't think I'll be the one to fill it haha)

      Kris Kjellquist They overstate capabilities of machines frequently. Gail also just makes up machine specs on the fly sometimes and is very wrong. Plus, how can you trust someone whose espresso making techniques are so awful?

    • @jackharington3126
      @jackharington3126 5 лет назад +1

      @@kriskjellquist1758 their "crew reviews" are more like "overviews," at best. All they do is tell you the specs of a machine and show you what it looks like.
      They're not entirely useless by any means and Ive watched heaps of them, but they're far from an actual full "review". And since they sell them they're never gonna tell you not to buy it, even though there might be something else that's definitely more worth your money.

    • @truckerallikatuk
      @truckerallikatuk 5 лет назад

      Agreed, they're not the best reviews out there, but there aren't really any better. Whole latte love feels to me to be in the same vein, a store trying to make their stock look good. I'm trying to find the lowest cost good grinder that will do an espresso grind, and the reviews are cluttered with people who have machines with pressurised porta-filters and don't know better. Sure, my machine also came with pressurised, but I want to move on and up, but it's hard and expensive to do.

    • @jackharington3126
      @jackharington3126 5 лет назад

      @@truckerallikatuk best low cost grinder I've found is by far the Breville Smart Grinder Pro ($179 AUD). I'm running it next to a Nuova Simonelli Oscar II.
      I was going to buy the Barazza Sette 270 ($430 AUD) from my local coffee shop but when I went to buy it, he advised me that they have had 5 in for repair in the last month, none of them heaps old and all of them with warn out plastiv housing where the burrs sit. Plus the Wi versions scales stoped working. They no longer stock the Sette as they didn't feel comfortable selling it. He pointed to the Compak K5 that they sell for $500 AUD, but said quite honestly, unless you have the money to burn and no real prospects for upgrading in the future, you're better served with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro and then waiting until you have $800-1000 to drop on something better. He thought everything in between would be pretty small difference better spent, upgrading to the Pullman Precision system (which I did, and love).

    Your RUclips videos are better than ok James, I’m looking forward watching this documentary when it’s available. Watching this in June 2020 your decision not to post a predictions video based on world wide uncertainty seems extraordinarily, almost ironically prescient! Keep up the quality content, it’s fuelling my developing interest in coffee and it’s potential - many thanks

    You've been making great videos throughout 2019, but could i ask for more weird and wacky videos like the IKEA one?

    A predictions video for 2020 will be worth it. Even if it's totally wrong, the debate and eventual analysiswill be good. I'd like your help to find the lowest cost grinder that can do espresso grind. My current grinder (a severin burr grinder) is fine for pressurised portafilters with a nice consistent grind, but just plain won't go fine enough for non-pressurised. Also maybe some guides on making low end equipment perform when it (or its owner) doesn't have all the tools to work that out. Love the work, it's really good stuff. And try the documentary, the worst you can do is fail. You never know, it could be awesome!

    Hi James, love how the channel is growing, only inevitable with the frequent quality content, congrats! What I would find interesting is a prediction over a longer timespan than a year. So much random shit can happen in a year. A couple of years will also allow for broader prediction which I deem will be more interesting. Love to hear your thoughts on it.

    I would love to see an exploration on different origin, maybe others would too?

    I would definitely make a 2020 predictions video. It doesn't matter whether you end up right or wrong as you simply briefly explain why you made the prediction and how it turned out at the end of the year. I enjoy that.

    Watching this in December 2020. He says that the world is so unpredictable in January 2020. James Hoffman of Jan 4 2020, you just made the understatement of the decade.
