As a voice coach, you probably already know that alto is not a voice type, it is a part given to you in a choir. Contralto is the word you’re looking for. She has great low notes which is why some people might mistake her for a contralto, but I think most people who have heard enough of her are correct when they say it’s between being a mezzo soprano and a soprano. I lean toward mezzo soprano because her lows are so rich and full, but also her high notes are so effortless and strong.

She was like 19 or 20 years old when she did this song. Imagine being this talented when you’re 19 or 20 years old?

Faouzia was born in Morocco in 2000, but her family moved to Canada when she was a baby. She wrote this about an experience during her first year of university, where she was studying for a Bachelor of Engineering. The song was released when she was 19. She had many years of classical piano lessons, but no formal voice training growing up.
I prefer this stripped version over the original pop version she released. I just love the sound of her voice. And she gotten so much better since this. Better control over her vibrato, and more sophisticated choices with her dynamics.
I'll be back if you do more reactions.
BTW - In Canada and the US, she introduces herself as Foh-zia.

Please react to her stripped or LIVE versions, it is unbelievable, "Tears of Gold" and "How it all works out" are two of my top choices.

Great reaction! PLEASE do more reactions of her she's a BRILLIAANT Moroccan Canadian singer songwriter and one of the best vocalists of this generation, btw she has this fast vibrato naturally, you can hear the Moroccan/Arabic influence in her tone.
Here are some recommendations for future reactions (in no particular order):
    1- Tears of gold (stripped)
2- Desert rose from the Singer 2024 (live performance)
    3- Bad dreams
    4- Fur Elise (live performance)

Most of her fans will tell you that it’s FOH - ZIA, but I actually found a video that I tried to circulate (it never caught on )where she said that the real pronunciation is FOO - ZIA, but because there’s a conflicting video where she gives the first pronunciation, most of the fans go with that one. But I prefer the latter pronunciation because I wanted absolutely the correct way. Said that she allows the FOH - ZOA version , Because it is easier easier for a North Americans to pronounce it seems. But the absolutely wrong way is FOW-ZOA, which is the one that you were saying, lol.
