I'm from the US and discovering more African music (Tabuley, Afrisa, Mbenza, Papa Noel). I love hearing Congo guitar. This is one of the best live performances I've ever heard.
The bit at the end with the kids was lovely. Music, the universal language. Hope they never forget the night they appeared with some of the greatest musicians ever. Love and respect to all 4 Etoiles fans from West Cork, Ireland. RIP Bopol.
Vocals: Ballou Canta (with a cap); Wuta Mayi(Open chest); Nyboma(Middle) and Guitars: Bass-Miguel Yamba (white-dressed),followed by Rhythm- Bopol Mansiamina(RIP) (dark-dressed) and Lead-Syran Mbenza(dressing a huge shirt with yellow patches). It has been a super musical group since 1981
Reminds me of the times I was at boarding school. Travelling from Lundazi to Sinda listening to these songs. At a bus station older boys would leave their luggage with me as they go out to drink while waiting for our ride. In 80s. 🇿🇲
Absolutely yes, but the camerawork / video editing is a crime - they don't focus on Syran Mbenza during that guitar work. Similarly from 5:40 to 5:47 he is playing amazing lines, and they show the singers moving around. Then finally they go to a camera angle where he is in the background. Similar around 7:35, focus on the drummer when Syran is showing off his virtuosity. This is the guy about whom a BBC guy said, Eric Clapton isn't fit to tune his guitar strings, and you don't get to see him play!
What happened everywhere else computer music played by operators not musicians. I'm from European origins born in Cameroon . I was with my parents in Ivory coast in the 70s & 80s I dtill got lps of African music bought at that time and still listen to this incredible mavellous wonderful sound coming from the talent of great artists. Hope someone teaches young Afrcans how to play real African music and
