Your passion for cars truly shines through, great work! Quality camera angles and work and a nice balance of capturing some of the sounds and driving experience. Thumbs up from the USA!
Thank you very much ! That's a big compliment and I really appreciate it. I will do my best to bring you more exciting and informative car reviews. Hope you enjoy the 55 as much as I did. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
You really make a strong case to buy this car. I want it. However if I get it, I'll probably like the neck heaters, but won't tell a soul about it. Shhhhh, our secret. :)
I already had this question a few times and it's hard to answer, because these cars are just so different: One is a roadster with a massive V8, the other is one of the most defined sportscars/roadsters ever made. The 55 is a bit more exciting to drive, the Boxster is the better driver's car. My heart buys the SLK 55, but my head goes for the Boxster. Hope you can live with this answer :) Regards, Guido / TheGetawayer
Thanks for your nice comment ! I'm glad you enjoy my reviews. The Audi R8 is one of my dreamcars for a review. I would love to film it. It's just not that easy to get such expensive cars for testing :)
No, I wasn't disappointed. It is different to a dual clutch system, but it isn't bad at all. I can honestly say that I really enjoyed driving this car a lot. The engine is sensational, the interior is top notch...I really like it. Greets from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much ! I really appreciate it when people notice how much work I put into making these videos without being a professional with a camera crew and top-notch equipment...Really glad you enjoyed it ! Greets, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks for the nice comment, Tous ! I haven't driven the new A-Class yet, but I'm working on it and I will try to film a review. I hear great things about the A45 AMG. I'm sure it will be in the same league as the Audi RS3 and the BMW M135i, maybe even better. AMG will still make big engines, but I guess a V8 would be hard to fit into the A-Class and cost too much money. So a 2liter turbo with ~ 350 bhp seems to be the right choice. Hopefully we will find out more soon. Take care, Guido
I test drove the Z4 and performance-wise it was not even close! It honestly felt like I was driving a 4 cyclinder honda. My previous G37 i drove to the BMW dealer was a lot more responsive and just a lot more fun to drive. The Z4 was the first car I ever test drove that I felt like I wanted to turn around and just return it. Driving the 55 AMG was exhilarating.
Thank you very much, Parvez ! I can totally understand where you're coming from: The sound of the SLK55 is just mind-blowing :) All the best for your ownership and thanks for checking out my videos. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Another excellent review, Guido ! Mercedes gave the SLK 55 to the right guy here .Your video is so much better than the review of Mercedes-Reporter Matthew K. ! Keep it up !
Although being a strong Porsche supporter I have to say that this car sound is just fantastic ! I've become a huge fan of this car since I saw the review. You can't say much that "this what I call an open air concert". Thanks for the additionnal sequence too.
Thanks buddy ! I'm always happy when people like my videos and feedback is very important for me in order to get more chances like this one from a car-maker. All my reviews are filmed in Southwestern Germany. The state is called ' Hessen ' and the area in which I film is called the ' Odenwald '. The driving roads here are amazing ! Greetings and a big thanks for the nice comment, Guido aka TheGetawayer
The seats are very comfort and supportive you feel like you can take a road trip with this car without any stress after sitting for hours >Z4,TT,boxster,Z370
Thanks a bunch for your feedback ! Comments like yours are the reasons why I love to share my car-passion with other car-guys here on RUclips. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
No idea...It's very hard to get cars from car-makers without being a journalist or working for a big magazine. But I've been told that this is the most popular review of this car on RUclips worldwide...Hope that means more cars in the future so I can provide you with more reviews
Really brilliant filming, loving all of the different camera angles! I think this is one of your best reviews yet! I LOVE this car, seems like it's full of drama and excitement, and that exhaust note is amazing, especially on the upshifts! I would LOVE to own one of these cars, but they are expensive, which makes them a little bit of a tougher sell for me, they are in used GT-R territory, but this car is much nicer. I also wish it was available with a manual transmission. Great review!
Very happy you enjoyed it, buddy ! It turns many heads on the road as all AMGs do and you need to like that, but if you just enjoy it for yourself on an empty roads, it's just epic ! :)
You're welcome ! It was very exciting to drive and the sound is a big reason for that. For me the SLK55 was one of the best cars I've driven last year. Hopefully I can review more AMGs in the future. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Yes, it's not turbo-charged like the 63s, but the same 5.5 liter V8 engine :) Thanks for checking out the review, Jorrik ! I can't wait for your videos from italy :) take care !
I am in contact with Audi, but I guess you will have to wait until next year, until I can review convertibles and roadsters again, because of the cold weather here. But I am thankful for your interest to see more reviews ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka Thegetawayer
Great video, I really love Mercedes for their great v8 engines! This engine sounds awesome but the new turbo-charged engines sound less though, in my opnion.
You could think about getting the factory armed G-Class called G-Guard from Mercedes Guard too, but I have no idea which engine they use for those. Nice to hear that you are so connected to germany. I hope you will have a safe and successful trip. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
These cars are so unique and different, I can't imagine somebody struggling between both of them. One is a roadster with a massive V8, the other is one of the most defined sportscars ever made. Test drive both of them and see what you prefer..
Thank you for a great video. This was the video review that tipped me over the edge for ordering one of these. Since then I've enjoyed watching your other review videos - there's something refreshing and honest in them that's missing from the "packaged for entertainment" approach taken by the big car shows. Hope all the car manufacturers realise the impact you're having on real world car sales. Keep up the good work.
Hello Uday ! Yes it has the piezo injectors ! ' Distinguishing features versus the M157 include the new intake air ducting, new cylinder heads, the modified valve drive, an adapted oil supply system and an optimized crankcase. ' ( I quote that from the Mercedes-Benz Press Database ) Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks for checking out the review ! Well, it is not a dual clutch system, but I was getting used to it. It makes the car more comfortable in traffic and the engine has so much power, that it didn't really matter that much to me. I think Chris Harris said the same in his reviews and I agree with him...But maybe they will upgrade the next generation. Doesn't the SLS come with a dual clutch ?
Hehe! I bet you drove all week with the stereo off! AMG V8's produces an amazing sound, one of the best in my opinion. The car you tested it's event better, fully loaded with extras and with Carbon Fiber trim, I love it. Awesome job! Looking forward for another AMG review!
Thanks for your reply!. Actually here in the US, once I choose the options I need, the boxter S is about 5 grand costlier than the SLK 55 AMG. I test drove the Boxter s yesterday and loved it. As you said I will drive the SLK as well and decide. Thanks again and keep doing the great reviews.
Thanks for the compliment ! Don't worry about the soft-top on the Boxster: While it looks like a simple soft-top it is actually a very solid magnesium frame construction. Porsche tests these cars in the most extreme weather conditions. Check out their youtube-channel for videos. For a limited budget the standard Boxster is still the best car, most fun to drive, it will keep its value...Yeah...Clear choice. Go for the Porsche unless you can afford this SLK55 which is just a bomb with a hardtop:)
A proper M-Z4 with a V8 or at least a manual could change everything, but for now the Boxster and the SLK 55 are the best german roadsters for me, not forgetting the Audi TT RS plus, which is another great car and very fast car, that takes full use of its awd. I'm also looking forward to see the new Jaguar F-Type next year :) So many great roadsters nowadays ! Greetings from germany and thanks for subcribing, buddy ! Guido aka TheGetawayer
Pfffiieew what a nice sounding AMG! I always thought that AMGs sounds great, but this one is different than all others; lovely growl! Nice video Guido, good to see you can review the latest models!
Thank you very much for the nice comment, buddy ! I totally agree with you on the downsizing topic which I really don't like and this car is a great example of how little it's actually needed...
It drives very well around town. Easy to park, steering isn't too heavy...Many people use SLKs as daily drivers here in germany. I would suggest you get an automatic one, because those drive better than the manual ones...
Thanks for the comment ! I agree, based on excitement this is the most thrilling car I reviewed this year. But allround the new Boxster that I tested is a better car. Still: You gotta love that loud V8 in a small car like this one. Greets
Vielen vielen Dank, Marius !
No, I configured the slk 55 amg a week ago and there I saw, that the leather in your video (pearl white/black) is only available with the special model! Now you can't get it anymore!
It does lack a bit, because it isn't a dual clutch transmission. You get used to it very quickly and it feels very comfortable in town and at normal road speed. I liked it alot, eventhough you can't compare it to systems like the Porsche PDK or Audi S-tronic. Greets, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Excellent review Guido. Thank you for producing such a detailed review online. The car gods are with you! The sound of that AMG V8 is complete harmony. Where in Germany are your filming these reviews?
As an SLK350 driver I enjoyed the 55 AMG review very much, thank you. Informative and interesting videos every time. Are you planning to take the C63 Coupe out any time soon? Bob
Nice car... no crappy rear seats. (like the SL) The old SLK had a manual gearbox option that made for a more lively drive. I love my SLK 320, it just eats up the miles.
Thanks for an excellant review. I have always been a Porsche driver gone through three 911 cabriolets including a 911 Carrera 4 S my last one ,I decided to go for the SLK 55 AMG.The big reason was the awesome sound like my daughter calls it a monster. I was so close to getting a Boxter S and was somewhat totally confused, especially I did see your review on the Boxter as well. Regardless I am happy so far and trust me seeing you drive it was a major factor. Thanks once again.
Thanks for the comment ! I often get this question and...Well, I think both cars are great, but they feel very different to drive...The SLK350 would normally be the car to compare to the Boxster S. The SLK 55 cost much more than the Boxster S...The Boxster handles and drives like a dream, has more space, a faster roof and better transmissions....But the sound of the SLK 55 is really contagious...And it has a better steering feel imo. Test drive both of them. That's my suggestion :) I
I think the 6 speed and 7 speed units fitted to the TTS and RS DQ250 and 300 are wet plate too. Only the cheaper DSG's used on the non performance VAG models are dry clutch.
Dear Mercedes, I just got back from the food bank, and wondered why aren't you making high performance cars for people like me. I have a dream Michael Barnett
Großes Kompliment an dich, Guido !
I cover the transmisson from 6:36 to 7:31 ... It is not a dual clutch system. The upside is that it is really smooth, especially driving off or in traffic jams...The downside is the manual mode, which does have a bit of delay, yes...But you get used to it. I didn't really use the manual mode, because the engine has so much power and torque that it doesn't really matter what gear you're in and the fully automatic C- and S-mode work perfect on public roads
Hi Mr Guido, thanks again for the reply. What about the differences b/w the new E63( non s model, RWD) and and the M5, engine and efficiency wise. Danke. Uday
Great video. Hopefully buying one of these in the next couple of weeks. Would love to know where you are driving in the video. Some of it looks familiarly like the B500 area
Thanks. Yes looking hard at the Boxster too. The Boxster Spyder as well. Is it too Audi of me to hope that they will make a 4 wheeled drive Boxster? As much as wiggling the back is fun, I love the feeling of security and surety, no matter the road surface with the Quattro. Plus being able to "steer" with both the accelerator and the steering wheel. I think a test drive though is on the books. Not sure about in EU - but here in Aus - they all cost the same!

No worries, Guido - I think your reviews are probably the most reliable and authentic on the web.

This Car was simply to good thats the reason why it was stopped and replaced by the 43
In my opinion it comes to close to the AMG GT

I think Mercedes showed this first in the Maybach and the SL...It's a great invention, that gives the cabin quite an airy feeling
Love your show its normal down to earth and totaly honest your great 👍
Thank you!

Geiler Sound, einfach unschlagbar :-)

Well done! Yes, getawayer is indeed on top level! This really is a review, not a list of technical details. Huge improvement and joy to watch!

I just tested the 2012 Jaguar XK and the guys from Jaguar told me that the F-Type will be awesome. I hope that I get to review it next year
Mit Sicherheit der beste Review, den du bis jetzt gemacht hast. Weiter so!
Hehe! I bet you drove all week with the stereo off! AMG V8's produces an amazing sound, one of the best in my opinion.
The car you tested it's event better, fully loaded with extras and with Carbon Fiber trim, I love it.
Awesome job! Looking forward for another AMG review!
Yes, it's called the "Edition 1" it was a limited production of 200 I believe (at least for the US)
Very good review! I was planning on sitting on this video for only a few minutes but i found my self viewing the whole review. Good job!

So many great roadsters nowadays ! Greetings from germany and thanks for subcribing, buddy ! Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks to your review (and the sound of the exhaust) I made the decision to shell out for the AMG model! Been driving it for 3 weeks and am loving it!
I don't understand why people are comparing the slk55 and z4 when one of them is more than double the price of the other...
Excellent! That video response was perfect, Getawayer. Thank you very much. You rule!
Thanks, Kris ! I appreciate the feedback ! Greets, Guido aka TheGetawayer

Yes, after all this years and I still love it as well. Currently have 35k miles on it.
Future classic :)
This engine in the SLK is not a turbo. It's naturally-aspirated. Greetings, TheGetawayer
Nice review and your English is excellent! Thanks.
Very much appreciate your positive feedback, thanks!
The previous 55 still looks much better. Hopefully they design a more aggressive R173 SLK55.
The SLC AMG ended up looking even more boring. The facelift R171 was the best looking
the new boxster S!! I test drove one the other day and it was phenomenal
Dave Gregory very uncomfortable cars! Rough and bumpy! Much better getting a c class
Great review, All of your videos are precise and sincere. Cheers
They already sell it in the states, Gabriela ! Regards, Guido aka TheGetawayer
