Wojtek is probably the most famous non-fictional bear of all time. He is fondly remembered many decades later for his contribution to the war. He is also still heavily discussed amongst Polish people to this very day. He's almost like a folk hero in some aspects.
Never heard about this fight with other bear. What i think is important too, is that Wojtek, while in the Zoo, never liked being with other bears, eventually been given his own pen. He liked humans more. Always got cheerfull hearing polish language. Oh, and oranges weren't the only thing brought by old comrades, as they would sometimes jump into his pen, to wrestle him, just like in the old days. One more thing to say - everybody gangsta, till a bear starts carrying ammo crates
Two fun facts: 1. Wojtek loved eating cigarettes, the were his favorite snack! And the Polish soldiers also snuck those in during their visits to the zoo. 2. Monte Casino was taken by the Polish during the 4th offensive and there is a photo of Polish soldiers lifting up the Polish flag on the mountain. It very much resembles the photo from Iwo Jima after the Americans had taken it. My grandpa told me a story that the English told the Polish soldiers to take their flag down, and put the British flag up instead, because officially the Poles were a part of the British Army. The Poles responded by immediately putting their rifles up and threatening everyone who would dare to come close. The issue needed to be resolved by the superiors of the two sides, who decided to leave the Polish flag there. Today, there is a great cemetery under monte cassino dedicated to the Polish army.
Not going to lie, a country that carries their flag proud even if your allies from another country tells you to take it down. Pure freedom, just so damn pure
Have you got a source for #2 other than your grandpa? I know a lot about the battle and I've heard about the polish participation, one of their military songs 'czerwone maki na monte cassino' comes from it. But I've never heard a single thing about the British objecting them to using their flag when the Brits were fine with every other nation including nations of the commonwealth using theirs. If you haven't I'd suggest everyone treat it with a grain of salt. The amount of myths that have been created about WW2 by people claiming they 'were told a story about X by Mein Opa' has become so notorious it's literally a meme.

You missed the best part! This bear once legit captured at least one POW, when a spy sneaked into the camp at night. The bear cornered him in the bathroom, I think it was, and proceeded to scare him so bad that the guy was begging for the poles to rescue him.
I read that Wojtek liked to grab a person by its legs and twist in the air, just for fun (was taught by the soldiers). So when he came across the spy, he did the same thing. The spy thought he is going to be eaten alive :)
And that only happened because of those shower shortages. Wojtek was desperate to get to showers, so he happened to break in to the same place this spy happened to hide in.
Fun fact: Winnipeg was another live bear that became a mascot, but for Royal Canadian Army Veterinary Corps. The bear then later became the inspiration for Winnie the Pooh.
Also, in North Africa, Wojtek helped to cought Italian spy. He hide in showers and left open door. Wojtek used the occasion and discover him. Screams alarmed the Poles and arrested him as quickly as he told everything in interrogation (they scared him meeting with bear once more)
Hilarious as it was, it was an administrative thing. Polish: We want to trake our company mascot with us. British: Sorry, unit mascots (company, regimental, etc...) are not allowed even if they are official mascots. (hint for those not in the know: that's an actual thing) Polish: So now it's no longer an unit mascot: he is now officially a soldier, complete with all his paperwork. There’s a Canadian connection to the honey-loving character brought to life by A. A. Milne. Winnie-the-Pooh was based on a real-life bear who lived in the London Zoo. He got there thanks to a Canadian soldier and veterinarian named Harry Colebourn. WW1. It all started in White River, Ontario. Harry was at a train station where he bought a little bear cub for $20. That would be about $429 in today’s dollars! He named the cub “Winnipeg Bear” after the town he grew up in. That’s where the name “Winnie” comes from, it’s actually a nickname!
I’ve seen several versions of this bear’s story. This is by far the best, in my opinion. And it had a couple details not in the other versions. Also, I really like the narrator’s voice in this, and all the Yarnhub videos. Perfect voice for narration.

You forgot to mention the time that Wojtek captured a spy, by cornering the man and causing him to scream so loud that it alerted guards. The interrogation was also very funny, with the soldier simply threatening to get the bear back in, at which point the spy gave up his secrets

Wojtek. I've seen several video's on this bear. And I have to say he's got to be the most unusual participant of any war in history. Great job Yarnhub you've added some new things to what I know about this bear.

It's kinda hard to provide the right environment for a bear. Whit the Polish army he had the right company ( battle hardend soldiers who can take a beating ), a lot of freedom ( he wasn't really restricted from roaming around but choose to stay near them ) and of course the fact they raised him helpt a lot too. I don't think one can provide all that to this extend.
Just brilliant - the animation, the artwork, everything. Laugh out loud funny in places too. Why is it that the best, most outrageous stories are invariably true? This, surely, has to be the best one of all.
Sure you do not mean 200 KG / 441lbs, I'm 6'1" weight lifter, martial arts instructor in good shape. I'm 214 lb's. I have heard of Wojtek, but not Michael, Wojtek was close to 500 lbs when he died in a zoo. Also it was not a boy who gave him over, a boy found him then gave or sold him to a polish girl Irena Bokiewicz, escaping the Soviet Union, she donated him to the Polish Army when he got too big.

The Intelligence of some animals is crazy at times.
Definitely believed gamer bread was real for a second… several seconds
With all this Gaming chair gaming table stuff I really couldve imagined that now theyve come up with gamerbread
I like how the bear is playing shadow legends , that’s how popular it is
"Which allowed him to loot the kitchen all night long."
"But the soldiers didn't care."
Truly the most accurate thing just for a bear.
Damn imagine the morale boost when a bear comes and resupplies you
Born a cute cub, a badass when he grew up
Just brilliant - the animation, the artwork, everything. Laugh out loud funny in places too. Why is it that the best, most outrageous stories are invariably true? This, surely, has to be the best one of all.
Another killer episode, this one made me misty eyed. Thankyou Yarnhub! I hope you do Sgt. Reckless one day!
This is one of the most legendary stories of allll time.
Why, it’s everyone’s favorite ammunition carrying bear: Wojtek!
I love the quality of every video on this channel
Aunque ya conocía la historia, no me canso de escuchar sus relatos.
Gracias por el video

Girls: why do boys live shorter than us?
Boys: 6:58
Boys will be boys
They clearly spent their animation budget for Wojtek and I’m not complaining.
You had me in the gamer bread part
Wojtek deserve a movie adaptation.
8:15 the Holy Spirit in the background
He wasn't just a bear, he was one of the boys
Well it seems he wasnt just satisfied with the 'bear' necessities of life 😂😂
i sometimes just dont even comment becouse i have no words on how good this channel is
