    hey girl! as far as the long tail cast on goes you can loosely wrap the yarn around the needle 10 times to know about how much yarn you need for 10 stitches. then you can take that amount of yarn and count by tens using that yarn to measure about how much youll need!

      This is so smart! I always wrapped my yarn around my needles the amount I needed, but because I was lazy and didn't pull it off periodically, the yarn would pile on top of itself and I'd get way too much, which is especially noticeable bc I'm always making shawls where I need to cast on like 300 sts. This will save so much yarn for me!

      @aQuayQuay 11 месяцев назад

      Omg why did I never think to just multiply the yarn I already measured and instead counted every single wrap around (thankfully I haven't done a 300 stitch CO yet). I also want to emphasize the "loose" part because going too tight will not give you enough yarn :'( Ty for this tip!

    Yay, I have to knit 26 more rows on a tee before I can go to ribbing and I needed a stash organizing video to get me through!

    I really needed the cool and calming vibes of your videos! After the day I had I just wanna say: to anyone who's ever been a victim of hate / violence because of their appearance, gender, orientation, race : DO NOT ever let a hateful notion 'there's something wrong with me' sink in. Trust me, it's a recipe for self hatred and compulsive anxieties later on. When we suffer and we need a break, it's only natural to think: maybe if I wasn't 'different', if I was 'normal' I would be accepted. No, haters will always find something else to prey upon. I've always had androgynous look, which was a real fuel for bullies when I was growing up. I embraced it, used it to my advantage in my acting / modeling career, I was almost the face of Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)

    I’m going to ✨try✨ to control myself a little more in the new year with my yarn purchases. I have a friend who just starting crocheting so I’m able to give my destash items to her which helps both of us! I also think the dos rd would be good for swapping/trading yarn!

    I do long-tail cast-ons a fair bit I wrap the yarn 10 times and use that as a measure to gauge how much I need.

    For doing a long tail cast on, work from two sides of the cake!!! There are tutorials on RUclips! I’ve done the wrapping of yarn around the needle method before but it never worked for me. Now I always cast on from both sides of the ball and it never fails!

    • @itserinb
      @itserinb  Год назад +2

      I’ve heard of doing this but never tried it! Thank you! 💖

  • @soul00theeundead
    @soul00theeundead 11 месяцев назад

    You can also make long tail cast on by get both end of yarn ball/cake/skein and slip not together (doesn't count as stitch) and start casting on like normal long tail and snip the yarn that you will not be using when done. This way you get the amount of stitches you want and not too long of a tail at the end. Or the most common is to wrap yarn around needle 10-20 sts then double until you get approx plus 4in or bit extra just in case for approx stitch cast on...😊

  • @marymendiola
    @marymendiola Год назад +3

    I first saw this from Marly Bird but the long tail cast on using 2 balls of yarn (or 1 ball only using both ends) is the best technique. You just slip knot the 2 strands on the needle and cast on as usual. Before joining in the round, remove the slip knot by letting it fall off. I hope I make sense! 😂

    I wrap the yarn around one needle to calculate amount of yarn required to cast on. For example, to cast on 70 stitches I will wrap the yarn around my needle 70 times. This usually works for me! Hope this helps

    Long tail cast on tip. I use a second yarn ball as the tail instead of using just 1 ball and guessing how long tail I need.

  • @themindfulcreators
    @themindfulcreators 11 месяцев назад

    I have a great tip for knowing how much yarn you need for a long-tail cast-on. What you will do is take the amount of yarn you need for you tail, then start wrapping the yarn around 1 needle. 1 wrap counts for 1 stitch. So if you need a 300 stitches cast on, you will wrap your yarn around your needles 300 times. Then when you get to the amount of wraps you need, you will unravel them from your needle, make sure to keep the point where you finished wrapping because that is where you will start your long tail cast on. Now you will always have enough yarn for your cast on. Has never failed me since I started using it. Just make sure your tail is in the right place, its a little harder to see now that your tail is that long when you start to cast on

    I know it’s my OCD. But I would write every skein down on a piece paper put it in a plastic sleeve and tape it to the bin that way you know what you have in each bin.

  • @zaracousins3734
    @zaracousins3734 Год назад

    Maybe something you can do later is figure out some projects you want to do and dedicate at least 1 or 2 skeins to that project (if not made up entirely of it. So if its being kept, it kept with a project in mind?
