It’s a double win with the Cobra as all of the cartridges are quite a lot cheaper too, often £100 to £200 each cartridge, that adds up to another great saving if you have 2 or 3 of them. Thanks for the video, really helped see the true differences between the two
Cheap things don't last. We're living in a throwaway society. When people buy a mower from China, they don't expect it to last long, just like when you buy clothes from a budget store. Things aren't built to last like they used to be in my day.
The Swardman Electra 2.0 would have been a contender for me if they'd put in a removable battery!
The Allett Stirling should be much better built for the price. I don't really expect folded painted steel, or a non-ruberized/stainless roller that will soon rust in an outdoor environment and all the problems that seem to be reported with belts and parts. The Cambridge feels like they've limited features so as not to compete with the Striling, it really should have separate drive and the ultra change cartridges rather than inventing the rapid-change.
Maybe I need to take a look at this Cobra.
Thank you for the feedback. I’m sure both manufacturers will find this useful 👍🏼
Fantastic review, cobra wins that hands down
Hi James, great review on both battery mores , but for me it's the Cobra 17E, Take care mate
Thanks Shaun, appreciate it 👍🏼
Good solid review josh.. cat and pigeons.. both did a good job and the results speak for themselves
Thank You Mick. Appreciate it 👍🏼
Great video. Cobra will hopefully force Allett to bring their pricing down as currently the Cobra seems to give much better value. Thanks
I used to have a Cobra hover mower at a place I worked at, it was pretty decent.
Allet put their prices up about 6 - 12 month ago, and promoted it online. l made a comment on a social media post, is it wise to do such a thing when what seems to be a really solid competitor was being launched at a significantly lower cost. Commenting was disabled, and their head of media PMed me asking 'Do Rolls Royce drop their prices because a Chinese company brings a car out' I'm personally hoping to get one later this year.
their marketing is all over the place lol they’ve posted multiple things that are questionable
Thank you for your feedback, I recon your right 👍🏼
@@TheReelMowingMowingClub It's a RR of plastic parts.,,😉
Great comparison! I think im definitely sold on the cobra, the finish speaks for itself 💯
Nice One Josh Good review Thanks again
Thanks Darran 👍🏼
As someone who uses a Tournament 24" and Buffalo 34" from Allett, that Fortis from Cobra is certainly built like a tank
I use a Tournament at our Bowls Club. Has lasted me 20 years so far. Service it annually with our local rep. Let's see if this mower will last the same amount of time made so cheap.
I enjoyed dropping by my local cricket and golf club when I was a kid (1990s era) just to get a look at their cylinder mower, it was huge. It had these big twin cylinders & collection boxes, motorbike handles like a big hustler/scag type and a ride on seat with a grass roller instead of a jockey wheel.
I'm not sure where they got it from but I've never seen one like it anywhere else, I think it had a Briggs and Stratton engine but I'm not 100% on that.
They were great to see Tim. My local club have a big old Rannsomes Mastiff 👍🏼
Nice machines, and make a lovely job 👍
Thanks Nev 👍🏼
Grate video as always would be good to see it against the allett Stirling
Thank you. The Stirling is in their next range up, these two are comparable price wise 👍🏼
I'd kill to have the Cobra available in Australia. I have A full Ego lawn maintenance business with the exception of an Ego powered cylinder mower. The Allett Stirling is just way to expensive here for what you get.
I’m sure there is a dealer out there somewhere willing to put it on a pallet for you for you 👍🏼
The cobra has more of an annoying wine to it. Other than that ego really have that nice feature of using self drive and not have the blades engaged. What I love on my ego mower. 400 cheaper you can’t go wrong either it for the features. The Allett is relying more on its history in the reel mower market but still a nice machine. Wish I could afford a reel like these.
Bang on Mate 👍🏼 I agree with everything you said.
Awesome video, anyone know if the 14 inch is a massive drop off from this 17? I want to use it for a small lawn so i was thinking 14.
Pretty much the same, just smaller.
Gosh I want one!
🤩
If I were to buy one of these it would be the Cobra. It costs £400 less, has two Ego 5ah batteries included versus one Greenworks 4ah with the Allett and prefer the colour 😅
But a Hayter 48 Pro is still my favourite mower with it's Petrol Honda engine.
The Ego power unit is also 56V rather than the 40V system the Greenworks so even more watt hours when you calculate the total power.
Thanks Roger 👍🏼
Where can I get one of those in the USA
Is cobra going to cross Atlantic?
I have no idea. But they would have seen this, it might give them some ideas 👍🏼
What happen to Allett and EGOs partnership?
They still have an EGO option, but it’s in a different range from these.
@@MachineryNation ok
Think the solid plastic box isn't a selling point. Once that box gets quite full the wind from the blades will start to push those clippings back out. Mesh feels more premium and better thought about but overall if I had to purchase one it'd be the cobra. You just get more for your money and it's too hard to pass up.
Thank you for the feedback, I’m sure both manufacturers will find this useful 👍🏼
Easy winner.
Thanks Pete 👍🏼
The Cobra is cheaper because it is built in China. I think the Cobra makes a very unpleasant loud noise for a cordless cylinder mower.
The Allett cambridge is nothing different than its predecessor Liberty, only much more expensive.
I think the pricing of the cobra is promotional only. The mesh bag is an important part of the design as the air flow carries the cuttings forwards. Where are they made?
There pricing on their other machines seem to have always held its own and been very competitive without the compromise in quality.
I think the video is missing detailed comparison of changing of the cartridge the undoing of the screws and taking the belts and then putting it all together instead just undoing 2 screws on allett it’s a lot of faff when you change cartridge frequently and having all of those inserts you will be doing those changes a lot, it’s sound simple if you just say “aaa it takes just a couple of minutes” but it’s just a lot of …. When you do it a lot, now mowing from change of cartridge let’s move to adjusting a high it’s another ball ache on cobra end using a ruller to see how high are you cutting and it is not a set and forget setting as each cartridge goes at different high so now imagine this each time you change then where in allett you just have a knob and just adjust to the hight you want and off you go ….. the cobra sounds a lot noisier and some very whiny noise which already started to annoy me after few seconds on this video ,
Don’t get me wrong I really want to like cobra as it would be some competition on the market and lead to better products in the end
What I like above the allett in cobra
- spike roller I think it’s a good one
- hopefully back roller does not rust on combra like on allett
- extra weight put better stripes
- I think the engine is more powerful which is good thing as I think allett green works range could do with more power but with that extra weight is it enough?
- independent drive system to roller operation
If cobra could improve:
- noise level, look at the swardman Electra how quiet it is, I think it’s in the region of 55db you can barely hear it, why it couldn’t be done like this? Cobra is around 95? We can hardly call it quiet
- change the high adjustment
- improve the cartridge swap/change
- and cherry in top do verticutter cassette as swardman groomer version
If cobra would improve on the above then it would be my go to mower as a new model
Really appreciate your feedback, I’m sure both brands will find this useful 👍🏼
I hope this affects Allett they have been building sub standard, cheap quality home mowers and charging a premium price for too long. They are made from the cheapest quality parts they find, more plastic than metal. The Cobra looks like a solid machine. The smooth roller on the Allett is pathetic and spins on the grass, especially if using the grass rake. The ribbed rear roller on the Cobra is the way to go. I would never buy another, Allett, and would never recommend them. Hopefully the Cobra comes to Australia
Even tho it seem to give a better cut the control system looks tacky to say the least. Shame the allett Stirling costs so much!!!
It is a little more mechanical but more heavy duty at the same time. I’m sure they will see this and take it away. Great feedback thank you.
Did it give a better cut or was the height of cut set differently? It was a paid promotion afterall so very biased. Would love to demo both
Well thats me buying a fortis for next year ... juat everything seems far superior to what Allett offers and i own a liberty and sterling 🤦
nice mower but that ego motor makes a horrible noise
It’s the cylinder making the noise
@@MachineryNation that’s even worse. Was it not adjusted properly or that’s its normal sound?
@@thesugarlipslove it's the powerhead making the noise not the cylinder
@@JohnBarber1958 as i said in the beginning. the ego power unit gives off a whine
Battery is nowhere close to carbon combustion
I have to agree, but there will come a time where we will be restricted where we can use petrol power.
@@MachineryNation that is something we have to stand against
It’s not just the carbon impact, maintenance on a battery machine is so much less than the petrol version
@@xJEC23 batteries are much worse for the environment than fuel
