I'm an early adopter and while I love the wheel, little things have poked their head. The buttons don't have solid audible clicks but you can really feel the v2 buttons and they're great. The 5 rotaries are random in quality, some have almost no click, some have very audible clicks and firm presses. They also have some deadzone in them. Honestly Fanatec nails the rotaries. The funkyswitch of course is in a bad spot. I love the thick grips, but they could stand to be shaved down like a half mil or so in the thickest spot. Lastly the LED bar could use a piece of plastic to help disperse the harshness of the LEDs (last I checked they may have been looking into doing this?). A lot of the shifter and clutch things they've ironed out now nicely, but I agree that the clutches could use some work in the ergo department. Cube does a good job of shifter and clutch custom positioning. Still, one of the best wheels on the market.
finally someone who's reviewing on the rotary encoders. Unfortunatetly this is a no go for me that they are not multi positions switches since I need to change TC settings during a lap quiet precise and fast. so no room for compromises here. Which is really sad because I think there is no bettter wheel out there in terms of ergonomics and optic.
Always thought they looked cool, but i just can't do 310mm (nearing 320) for open wheel stuff. The grips look like some of, if not the most comfortable out there in sim racing. And it looks like it could survive only a few things short of an apocalypse. Great showcase video.

I had it connected to an active USB Hub (3.0) with a few other things, one of them being Elgato Stream Deck. I've changed the configuration of cabling slightly and plugged my microphone to the hub and the Fanatec wheelbase (CSL Elite) to an extention cord directly to PC. The issue went away - but I did not know the reason... It might have actually been the bandwidth or the power usage being too high with Stream Deck on the same Hub...! Thanks :)

I was at MicroCenter and tested out this wheel without gloves. First impressions, The quality is there. I have large hands and I thought the grips were a little too chunky/thick, maybe with gloves it’s a different story. The wheel is a just little large if driving F1.
Always love your wheel review's Will! You should try to get a Leoxz XGT Pro. It's a big step up from their previous wheel and they did some really amazing stuff emulating Fanatec's wheels and even include a Fanatec mode on the wheel itself. Pretty cool stuff.
Great review as always mate. With regards to backlit buttons Gomez have a phantom option on one of their other wheels, not sure if this wheel has too, where you can customise the lights. Also, I think CubeControls use those buttons because they are backlit, I'm interested to know your thoughts on that. Will you be doing a review of the Porsche 911 RSR steering wheel by SimLab?
Anyone in the US can go to their local Microcenter and drive this same wheel, it is amazing. I am saving up for one myself, but most likely by then the Hyper P1 will be out and I'd go for that.
I tried out the non-screen version of this wheel and I really didn't like it compared to a Fanatec Formula wheel modded for standard wheelbases. The weight and large size made it harder/slower to do quick movements, and the shifter clicks were insanely loud. The grips were also too big for my hands to hold very comfortably. I'm 5'8 with "normal" sized hands, maybe the GSI works better for people with larger hands. But for me even if they were the same price I'd go with the Fanatec Formula, gotta love that funky switch.
Great review! I have that wheel. I noticed the cons you mention when I first received my wheel, such as the size, scroll wheels etc. The only con that has remained an issue is the screen losing bandwidth. I have it plugged into a powered USB hub, but even with that my PC can't always supply enough data. Worse case though, occasionally the screen reboots. My shifters/buttons continue working when the reboot happens, so not sure why you lost those functions when it happened to you? There are fixes for this, I just haven't spent the time yet to focus on that. All the others cons became non-issues for me. I got used to the length of the wheel, with it now feeling fine/normal, and that is after coming from a Fanatec formula wheel. I also initially felt the rotary encoders were too loose/flimsy, but they have actually functioned well, and work fine. There are little details that I find helpful (Probably available on other dashes) but seeing the track temp on the GSI dash is handy (Iracing), with almost all the data I need right there on the dash. Lastly, the support available from the folks at Gomez is second to none. That level of support is what sold me on this wheel, when I was contemplating the purchase. Great job Will!
I recently solved an issue with my diy W12 wheel (with a USB hub, a button controller, an arduino for leds and a vocore screen for Simhub), where every once in a while the screen was lagging, the leds would have odd colors etc., obviously bandwidth issues. Turned out my usb hub's cable was broken. Maybe try to get a replacement one?
I received mine (new) last week, and I’m returning it I think. There’s a defect on the front carbon that GSI says is “normal”, and the dials are super loose. One reasonably clicks, but the others barely catch each turn. I’m not sure how I feel about the size of the grips as I haven’t received the rest of my rig to test but they feel really large and wide. But I’d want to test it. Overall, for the money I’m a bit disappointed. I’m guessing a lot of these issues have been resolved in the new wheel.
Great video as usual. The wheel is a bit too chonky for me and honestly I can’t do rubber grips, they get way too sticky in long races. I actually really like the customization though, it would be super cool to design you’re own custom wheel.
8:45 the software ability to choose between rotary encoder or 'multi-position switch' (aka rotary switch) functionality is purely due to the type of hardware used. A rotary switch can function as both a rotary switch *_or_* rotary encoder as opposed to a rotary encoder which can *_only_* operate as a rotary encoder.
i want one but the wheel costs as much as my whole setup so i bought a custom replica of the AMG GT3 racing wheel for 200 bucks and its amazing. but I want one of these so bad
so we actually have this wheel on the sim rig at my job and I've been using it at work for a couple months now, its really really cool and all, but i think my fanatec f1 2021 wheel for 1/3rd of the price is more then adequate
WOW! This wheel looks amazing. Sadly can't afford one but it looks like it would be a good purchase (if i can ever afford it 😂). Definitely a must buy, if i could afford a sim racing setup this would be my first choice. One question though, what is the compatibility like for this wheel, so I can plan my dream setup properly? Great review as always and I hopw you have a good day!
As it’s USB connected you can mount and use it on any PC based platform and wheelbase that you can mount a 70mm PCD wheel to via an adapter or directly, including but not limited to Simucube, VRS, Fanatec, Mige, and other popular wheelbases.
I've been thinking about getting a dedicated formula style wheel, this one seems so fucking good. If only it was around 280mm rather than 320. I guess Ill have to wait for GSI to release their new wheel on december :)
What do you think of the positioning of the 'funky' switch? Being located down the bottom of the wheel and not within easy reach of your fingers whilst driving (without taking your hand off the wheel) seems like it may be an issue if you want to interact with pit menus etc whilst driving....
Now if you could pull off another great video like this about the VPGSim wheel (V-RSPG) - that would be fab. Similar in price. THUMB encoders. Different screen. A comparison between those two would be just down my alley. Cheers.
Reaching out to see if you have any issues with this wheel while driving F1 2023 as far as missing a upshift or just not shifting properly, I'm asking cause after 3 years I had new shifters put on and now I'm told that its the game not the shifters.
I have DYI dashboard with VOCORE screen and LEDs, that reseting and spliting screen happens to me from time to time. I thought its my usb cable and connecting part to vocore board. Maybe i will be able to fix that knowing now whats the issue.
Probably the main thing are the chunky grips...I love them perfect for my hands...but people with small hands will struggle with it...GSI should offer two grip size option when ordering, like they do with the shifters ( aluminium or carbon fibre)
@@barrymanon9459 thank you, strange that this review mentioned several times that it was a bit large for F1 and open wheel cars, when that is not its intended purpose, and did not mention suitability use for GT cars

It's a super nice looking wheel, but I still find the grips too thick and I don't even have small hands. I used to have one for a while but first it didn't work with an older CPU (somehow it needs some chipset-stuff which any Core²Duo/Quad didn't have back then) and when it did work later on the new machine (i9 10900KF) I prefered the Ascher grips way over the GSI. I have to agree though the built quality is amazing and it generally looks really good all around. I hope they come up with a smaller Formula/LMP Style wheel featuring a screen in the future though, definately not uninterested!
this steering wheel was not designed for a virtual pilot, it doesn't have an encoder close to the fingers, it doesn't have a directional, it's a very expensive steering wheel and it just has a beautiful look, moza steering wheels are designed for the pilot, just like the fanatec ones
Hello, what’s the screen or projector in front of you? I’m planning to build something like this and I was planning to go with a big monitor but this look much much better.
What’s the best wheel to use iracing in gt3 lmp and f3? Hmmmmm I need the best of all you have reviewed. I can only afford one after decision to get the drive pedals
Personally I don't really get the multi-position rotary dial. I mean it's cool in concept but for me it starts falling apart when you change cars or TC/ABS in-game and the position on the wheel doesn't correspond to setting in-game. I have the option on my fanatec wheel but don't use it for that reason. Would like to hear from someone who actually uses it and how they work around this. Maybe manufacturers should motorize the rotary dials so they could be automatically synced up with the game.
A few to many red flags on this wheel for me, I was really looking forward to this review because i was ready to buy one, but being 18 minutes in I am completely turn off. - Shifters view micro switchs (what is this the 2000s?) - Lack luster feedback on the rotary encoders - And potential of bricking the wheel if you accidentally override the arduino. ANSWERED BY GSI AS NOT ACTUALLY POSSIBLE I hope GSI will provide some response for that last one, and they did! Still eagerly awaiting the review of the Cube Controls wheel!
Hi BjoerkBE to answer your last question... no you can not "brick" the wheel from uploading your own sketch. We recommend against it because most people don't understand the order of the LEDs on the PCB and with thousands of GSI wheels on the market we want to have users have a smooth experience. We don't have a Arduino chip inside the wheel as we put the Arduino code right onto a ATEMGA microchip.
@@gomezsimindustries if I may further ask, given the shifters are microswitches which I personally have had a few break on me in the long term, how would a faulty microswitch be handled in 2-5 years down the line after the warranty period? Will we be able to acquire replacements through GSI or is the one used a common of the shelf product that could be replaced by a technically savvy person?
@@-siberian- Totally understand. Even though the switches are rated for 1 million + activations although rare (less than 1% for us) they can fail. The one thing you will always get from us is we make sure to take care of our customers which we consider a community in and of itself. Even beyond the warranty period in most cases we will ship a new switch free of charge. Hope this helps!
Great video Will, as always 👍 just to clarify one point, if you wanted to run this wheel on a fanatec base I would need an emulator ?? Have I got that correct ? 👍
Hey Will did you experience some miss shifting? I saw your F3 race couple days ago and you had this issue. A friend of mine is having some issues with USB and miss shifting on the same GSI wheel you have. The support was great tough! They sent him new switches and a newer version of the USB cable.
Mate I wanted to ask you a question about wheel diameter, I'm looking to get a Fanatec DD 8NM that I could use on my PS but also PC for getting into things like i racing and asetta corsa etc, the wheel I was going to go for was a 350mm, reason being is that is the wheel size on my track car and I thought getting the same size would result in a more realistic experience. Have I got this wrong? Could you please provide some advice / commentary on this?
without thumb encoder wheel cant be in first 3, and you ask is this the best wheel ever. i see you review planty of companys wheel...question, do you review only companys who send you gratis wheel, or you have funds to pay for it and review... ask about rexing company, and do you have plan to try it, for my opinion the best wheel on the market

@@mircoh.8367 Thanks. I will.
We're always here for you guys! Got a new dash coming for everyone as well!
I’m guessing a lot of these issues have been resolved in the new wheel.
very nice review, looking around at a replacement for my fanatec v2.5 with larger diameter so this was good info
The one that I purchased was SIMAGIC FX PRO WHEEL RIM. It was $789.00 USD. Yes it has some plastic on the face but damn is it built.
I am lucky enough to have one of these, the Onyx version. And yes, its excellent.
thanks for the kind words. Onyx has been a mega HIT!
Great video. I wanted to get to get the Max for a while. Then Malone got one, and I was sold lol
Great video as usual. The wheel is a bit too chonky for me and honestly I can’t do rubber grips, they get way too sticky in long races. I actually really like the customization though, it would be super cool to design you’re own custom wheel.
You mentioned 'competitors'...which wheels do you think are the biggest competitors to this one? Thanks for all your content!
Hi Will thanks for catering to my desires of looking at stuff I can't afford haha
Yes correct.
It looks good, but my only complaint is the lack of “thumb wheel” for brake bias, other than that it looks like a great wheel!
Thanks for the feedback! We're always listening the the community and you'll like what we got coming up!
@@gomezsimindustries I’m looking forward to it, I’ll keep my eye on you’re website and my Visa card on cool down 😀👍
I would love to see a Test of the Hyper P1, I think they improved some of the things that you mention in this video.
cool review but there is a wheel with a screen next to the cube controls GTX what wheel is It?
Just as a side note: None structural parts like the screen surrounding are often a plastic material in real race cars because of weight
i want one but the wheel costs as much as my whole setup so i bought a custom replica of the AMG GT3 racing wheel for 200 bucks and its amazing. but I want one of these so bad
Great review. Thanks dude
so we actually have this wheel on the sim rig at my job and I've been using it at work for a couple months now, its really really cool and all, but i think my fanatec f1 2021 wheel for 1/3rd of the price is more then adequate
Waiting for the CSX3 review but leaning towards the GSI, do you have a recommendation for the active USB cable?
We have a nice "recommended hardware" channel in our discord. Come join! We like where you're leaning towards. ; - )
@Gomez Sim Industries, I will thanks
I've been thinking about getting a dedicated formula style wheel, this one seems so fucking good. If only it was around 280mm rather than 320. I guess Ill have to wait for GSI to release their new wheel on december :)
Many choices incoming 🙂
@@gomezsimindustries excited for it!
Hey Will, are you also going to review the Leoxz wheel? Seems very high quality for the price compared to +1000 wheels
As always, awesome video. Will there be a video of the Leoxz wheel?
What do you think of the positioning of the 'funky' switch? Being located down the bottom of the wheel and not within easy reach of your fingers whilst driving (without taking your hand off the wheel) seems like it may be an issue if you want to interact with pit menus etc whilst driving....
Now if you could pull off another great video like this about the VPGSim wheel (V-RSPG) - that would be fab. Similar in price. THUMB encoders. Different screen. A comparison between those two would be just down my alley. Cheers.
I own both of these wheels
@@barrymanon9459 Good for you.
I’d say the GSI is a better built wheel. But I like the diameter of the VPG more. Be nice to have grips that are in between in girth.
Thanks for this Will! When are you going to review the V2?
ASAP. It’s in the queue.
@@boostedmedia Thanks Will! On the verge of getting one, will wait for your review first. Thanks again
Is it wheelie that good?
Reaching out to see if you have any issues with this wheel while driving F1 2023 as far as missing a upshift or just not shifting properly, I'm asking cause after 3 years I had new shifters put on and now I'm told that its the game not the shifters.
Button like Ascher and We have perfection in Sim World, by now still Ascher is best for me.
Great video as always. But it's a little to far out of my price range. That's why I created my own style of GT3 wheel.
I have DYI dashboard with VOCORE screen and LEDs, that reseting and spliting screen happens to me from time to time. I thought its my usb cable and connecting part to vocore board. Maybe i will be able to fix that knowing now whats the issue.
Yep it’s a common issue on all Vocore screens. I have a few others and they all do the same exact thing under the same conditions.
I like the Bavarian Simtech Wheel.
I get that the wheel is a bit large for F1 and open wheel cars, but how does it feel for GT3 cars?
perfect
Probably the main thing are the chunky grips...I love them perfect for my hands...but people with small hands will struggle with it...GSI should offer two grip size option when ordering, like they do with the shifters ( aluminium or carbon fibre)
Gomez always stated on his twitch channel it’s a GT Hybrid wheel. Not once he said it was a open wheel car...
@@barrymanon9459 thank you, strange that this review mentioned several times that it was a bit large for F1 and open wheel cars, when that is not its intended purpose, and did not mention suitability use for GT cars
@@jamesevans7056 yea weird not sure what happened there
Excellent review again. A good Arduino and strong construction, aluminium case, and we gos a winner. Certainly a new area to develop
Thanks for the review, very detailed and explained.
For my sim I'm working on the tracks for ACC with names to print on my 3D printer. I notice thar some jpg from the tracks are not 100% acure from the reality (on the game I don't know if they are updated) so I'm making from google maps. I can send you the files if you want
So thank again for the review
Excellent job Will, many Thanks From Portugal
😃💯👍🙏🙇♂
Winner, winner chicken dinner! 🥳🥳🥳
@boostedmedia any chance you review the new GSI FPE v2 in the future?
J just but one of the and if wasn't for your review, I would have had no idea how to get it working properly. Thank you much
Glad the video helped!
this steering wheel was not designed for a virtual pilot, it doesn't have an encoder close to the fingers, it doesn't have a directional, it's a very expensive steering wheel and it just has a beautiful look, moza steering wheels are designed for the pilot, just like the fanatec ones
I want to buy the Fanatec Formula Podium Racing Wheel(-Set)or DDPro for SeriesX, but all Store empty?!🥺🖖
Are we going to talk about Simagic's New Formula wheel.. that looks like Cubecontrol knock-offs?
are those triple monitors 55 inches?
Personally I don't really get the multi-position rotary dial. I mean it's cool in concept but for me it starts falling apart when you change cars or TC/ABS in-game and the position on the wheel doesn't correspond to setting in-game. I have the option on my fanatec wheel but don't use it for that reason. Would like to hear from someone who actually uses it and how they work around this. Maybe manufacturers should motorize the rotary dials so they could be automatically synced up with the game.
Does this wheel affect the PC PSU. I only have 750watt PSU w/ 3090 will that be enough for this wheel?
will this mount to a Simucube 2 Pro wheelbase
A few to many red flags on this wheel for me, I was really looking forward to this review because i was ready to buy one, but being 18 minutes in I am completely turn off.
- Shifters view micro switchs (what is this the 2000s?)
- Lack luster feedback on the rotary encoders
- And potential of bricking the wheel if you accidentally override the arduino. ANSWERED BY GSI AS NOT ACTUALLY POSSIBLE
I hope GSI will provide some response for that last one, and they did!
@@gomezsimindustries thank you for the clarification! I suggest that Will makes a correction for this as it is kind of important information.
39:13 What's the name of the track that you are driving in?
Bathurst, Mount Panorama in Australia.
When can you review the Leoxz f1?
Pls do a review about the hyper p1
Great video Will, as always 👍 just to clarify one point, if you wanted to run this wheel on a fanatec base I would need an emulator ?? Have I got that correct ? 👍
Either and emulator or a fanatec podium or universal hub. Yes.
Hey Will did you experience some miss shifting? I saw your F3 race couple days ago and you had this issue. A friend of mine is having some issues with USB and miss shifting on the same GSI wheel you have. The support was great tough! They sent him new switches and a newer version of the USB cable.
Always there to take care of the fam! 🥳
Please make a separate video on f1 wheels that available in market
Mate I wanted to ask you a question about wheel diameter, I'm looking to get a Fanatec DD 8NM that I could use on my PS but also PC for getting into things like i racing and asetta corsa etc, the wheel I was going to go for was a 350mm, reason being is that is the wheel size on my track car and I thought getting the same size would result in a more realistic experience. Have I got this wrong? Could you please provide some advice / commentary on this?
I'll hopefully be able to afford one in this lifetime
comment trouver le logiciel pour parametrer le volant dont vous faites la demo merci de me repondre
Is it a market for such expensive wheels?
without thumb encoder wheel cant be in first 3, and you ask is this the best wheel ever. i see you review planty of companys wheel...question, do you review only companys who send you gratis wheel, or you have funds to pay for it and review... ask about rexing company, and do you have plan to try it, for my opinion the best wheel on the market
do i see a LeoXZ XF1 on your shelf there? Will we get a review for it :)
Well spotted. They’re sending us a revised version with some fixes so it’s still a way off.
16:20 guy had a legit irl failure, added to some realism 😂
Question…have a full Fanatec DD2 set up and ready for something new. Would you be interested in helping me build my next new sim? Leaning towards Simucube. Would like to take the conversation offline.
310 isnt too wide for Formula cars?
what game is you using the sim on
