Wow didn't know they were from watts California. Went to Carver elementary on 120th and success in LA in early 70s. Back before 105 freeway came thru. 11710 south Slater street. The Harris family. So cool because I had six siblings as well. I remember when Hawkins burgers was just Hawkins corner market on Slater and imperial across from nickerson gardens. Awesome memories. I even remember Cynthia Hawkins as a kid cheating us out of our money when we redeemed bottles. She'd only give us half of what they were worth. Lol I know I'm babbling right now but yes this was my favorite sylvers song, this one and Misdemeanor by Foster sylvers. I thought they were better than Jackson five, well at least their earlier stuff. Then they're music went the way of disco pop. Anyway good memories.
I lived in the Nickerson Gardens at the time that the Sylvers were there and I used to hang out with Rickey and Edmund. I would always go over to their house and look through Jonathan's comic book collection. I would often stay over their house when they would have rehearsal. Leon wasn't playing. He always told me that if I couldn't sit there and watch without goofing around I could stay. We moved away before they did but when I first heard Fools Paradise on the radio I knew all of the words to the song and my friends couldn't figure out how I knew therm. I lived on 114th and Compton Ave. directly across the street from the Housing Authority. I went to Markham for 2 and a half years. I remember when the Pigmies jumped Edmond in the auto parts store on 108th and Compton Ave. Yea, that was messed up with a capital "F".

The arrangements!! The harmonies!! Pure genius!! I hear a blend of 3 different eras of music combined to make their own sound/niche.....thats why they sound light years different yet around the corner similar to groups of that era.
Wu-Tang & Nas came to Massachusetts, I’m from Boston. And when they did all the Wu members intros GFK came out to Mighty Healthy. My favorite GFK song ever. Tears came to my eyes. And I was the only one in my section who knew word for word. Everyone gave props..Wu Tang Forever

This first album was brilliant. The songs, harmonies, arrangements; almost every song was just wonderful, catchy pop/r&b. They had such a signature sound thanks to Leon Sylvers III; he was a true musical innovator, if not a genius.
This was their best song in MO and my favorite of theirs and was pure Sylvers. Hot Line and Boogie Fever were cross over hits and what the record execs wanted although they were bigger hits overall. Leon got into beefs with the REs over the songs they would record and they turned the others against him which led to their downfall.

My first crushes befor the DeBarges. At least with the DeBarges I was a teen but with the Sylvers I was a little kid! I loved this group and I have the first album in possession now. This is the album my father bought for all of us and I nabbed it as an adult lol.

I was hurt that his death wasn't even mentioned by our media (to my knowledge) I didn't hear of it until Unsung, I too still have the albums in good condition. I was hurt that his death wasn't even mentioned by our media (to my knowledge) I didn't hear of it until Unsung, I too still have the albums in good condition. Great job TVOne for introducing the Sylvers to a new generation and bringing them back to others.
