    I’m new to traffic control in California. I am here to work a lot of hours to provide for my new little family that I now have (first time daddy). We get no respect. It is a thankless job.. it makes no sense how people are abusive. Our job is to keep the public as well as the workers in the activity zone, SAFE. We are put out to literally, control traffic. Haven’t had someone blast through the stop sign.. I used to not care about flaggers, but now that I am one, I have all the respect ✊🏻. Flaggers have so much to be aware of sometimes. It is NOT a low stress job at all. Especially during construction work. You have to be alert. The public sees it as “holding a stop and slow sign”, but they do not see that flaggers are there to prevent accidents. Imagine no flaggers there to control traffic, it’ll be a shit show. Be safe out there fellow flagger.

      I love the different terms we use around the world, us Aussies just use the term Traffic controlllers but flaggers sounds more catchy
      Yes it is a thankless job and that is what still baffles me to this day about how much abuse Traffic Controlllers cop because everybody needs to be nowhere fast
      Thankyou for doing your job and doing research to better yourself in your job makes me proud to know there's people like you working the roads

    The only problem with being a traffic controller
    *The cold hand of boredom*
    Btw I'm trying to be a traffic controller but just had a weird asf question, do you usually get supplied with signs/equipment or is that meant to be self supplied? Or does it depend? Thanks in advance :)

    • @paigerrichards
      @paigerrichards  3 года назад +4

      Haha yes indeed, with the boredom comes a big respect for alone time....
      In most cases you get supplied, are you a self contractor starting up your own traffic business or are you working for a company? If you are working for a company they should be supplying you with the appropriate PPE and ute with the correct signage. If you don't like how they are running the set up there is plenty of other companies out there that will be screaming for workers. Know your worth and aim big because this job can take you places!

      Don't be scared hun, stay vigilant and most importantly be confident! This is such a great job you will do so great. Remember fruit and fresh food paired with water is the best hydration you will give your body, double up on sun protection so use a face sock and sunscreen where the face sock doesn't sit and ask lots of questions especially if you aren't sure about something.
      The best way to make the job work for you is think of the money you will receive once getting paid and don't bring you house life to work.

      @@paigerrichards To be honest, i don`t believe in telling other workers what to wear and what not to wear. as you said road workers and tc`s are completely separate. You cant tell other workers what to wear and what not to wear as a tc doesn't have authority to restrict shifts from road workers so allowing people on site that work on site is permittable, any form of recommendation or reduction of work for that day will be up to the foreman or person in charge of said individual. It is up to their boss, the company they work for and the regulations that the company follows. I`ve been a TC for 7 Yrs now ive run jobs the past 5 Yrs now.
      remember, we are the guardian angels to the workers doing the road works. we are the first line in defence separating drivers and pedestrians from road workers. It also isnt illegal but it is not preferred to keep cars waiting over 5 minutes. I have never heard of that rule in my life.
      With regards to how someones feeling on site, if someones personal life is affecting their work, they may actually be thinking something a bit more than just, life is terrible. They might be thinking this will be my last shift, which in turn, any or all aspects of a workers competency to work a shift if be negative, should be reported to the team leader on site, and the team leader will follow a structure that all TL`s will all be aware of. A lot covered here if factually true, correct, but there are a few things listed within this video that aren`t as accurate as others (obviously depending on state)
      anyway, good luck on site, be safe, aware and remember safety is our number 1, Traffic controllers have families too!

    • @paigerrichards
      @paigerrichards  3 года назад +1

      Thankyou for your feedback on my video as any viewer that has an opinion on my content is very much so valued.
      So great to hear that you have been serving as a traffic controller for so long now that is truly inspirational and amazing you are a true legend!
      I am pleased to hear of your concern about some of my comments made in my video but I am aware that what I have stated is true and alot of what I have said is coming from my own point of view and wording. So please as you have already comment any concerns of my video and we can discuss what it is you would like to hear more of from me. Each state and country does have different rules and regulations when it comes to how they do things and the holding traffic for any longer than 15minutes isn't aloud("is illegal") we like to hold no longer than 10mins but in some circumstances unfortunately there will be times when traffic needs to be delayed in order to proceed works carefully so everyone can come home alive at the end of the day. With telling other worker what to wear, I do not believe I made a statement in this video about that but I can in my next to go over how and what we are meant to be wearing in Queensland because Traffic Controllers here have a rather strict dress code compared to our Construction/Roadworkers.
