Why are people so doubtful the eel was wild and real? Have you ever been outside? There are these things called WILD ANIMALS and you can find them in the craziest of places almost as if life has evolved for millions of years to fill every ecological niche on the planet.

Is it just me or is this a thrilling thing to see Gordon in lands far away “tickling” an eel and throwing it up on the bank of the river. Then practicing catch and release and letting the monster back into the water for another day. What a fantastic episode!

Eels are covered in thick mucus, which is why they are so slippery. I bet Gordon immediately regretted giving it a kiss

Haha the eel has telltale signs of bumping against the glass of a store fish tank. Well it's not surprising these catches are mostly staged.

Old records say they used to grow to 9ft and you can still find good 6ft specimens put there still.

This brings back memories of catching eels in the creek behind our house in Birdwood Road, Swanson, Auckland, NZ about 1966 ish. Put them in a wet potato sack on the incinerator (44 Gallon drum burning manuka) to smoke them. Verrrrrrrry tasty they were. 62 years old now living in OZ and miss the culture. I am a Pakeha proud and very respectful of the the Maori people and culture.
