I am 79 years young and always wanted to learn guitar but ran a business, married kids and never found time. I retired and sold out at 75. Today my wife of 50 years and I live somewhat in the country on some acreage. I have a shop where I spend every day six days a week from 12 noon until 5pm. It's more of my man cave than shop. I decided I would buy a used guitar and see if I can't learn via RUclips. I bought an old Yamaha electric that needed work. Got it stinged up and working and took it out to my shop. Your videos are plain and simple, and I am learning little by little. Thanks, I am US Army Ret. MOPH

Well done, it's Don here Reading your story, I'm 72 & have a lovely Wife- 6 children, and I'm retired now but just want to share a little thought, good choice with your Yamaha, I too play electric, but ( since we retired the Band) Iv'e been playing mostly acoustic guitar's ( get the best you can afford) and it's so much easier to just grab your guitar and play it, you don't have to bother with the amp.lead and a place to play it with out annoying someone, mind you I live in a City and you may be in the Country somewhere so no problem, but give an acoustic a try and see what you think. Regards Don, from NZ.😊

Ks for this, I normally get stuck playing the same couple of songs over and over, this will give me new ways of expanding my practice. Cheers

I love your channel- I have spent more than I care to admit on lessons but I have never gotten guidance on doodling & how it can inform your playing. Great stuff!

I always say I'm going to go play the guitar instead of saying I'm going to go practice. Practice seems like too much work and not a lot of fun.

Good stuff! I like to listen to a song and then try to find the key. Once I find the key I’ll noodle up and down the neck noodling licks.

I like to go through fingering 6 string Bar chords, than on the 5th string, than any triads I know---just kinda meandering, not "practicing" per se, just going through what I do know of those and connecting like you showed, without looking as I watch a show. If wife sitting nearby than I do the palm muting so she's not having to hear it. Thanks for the other tips.

I like the advice. Any suggestions on how to practice if traveling and you don’t have your guitar? Any travel guitar suggestions? Thanks!

There are some really cool folding guitars that are very compact, but they're kind of expensive and I've never played one. Also, there are these flip out guitar neck thingies for practicing chords, but they're meant for just positioning and not for sound. Never tried one of these either.

Great tips....yeah i think sometimes just to pick up the guitar and get a feel for it without thinking too much....i like to get the pick and just do dwn up dwn up across all strings...or even scales i like or just practising all fingers left hand 1st 2 3 4th 4 3 2 1... across all strings as you say builds muscle memory and strength. Accuracy importortant. But yeah need some structure too. Thank for the vids groque q. Do u do fingerpicking or have any basic instrucional vids planned for that? Anyway, keep grooving

Yep, I think it's really important to pick up the guitar sometimes even when you don't feel like it. I'd say with me 99% of the time, once I pick it up I'm happy I'm there. Oh, you found my weakness, finger-picking is not one of my strengths. I guess I'll go watch some RUclips videos on it.

What’s this apologising for your voice? I could listen to you for hours. You’re saying just what I need to hear. I’m going to get my guitar right now and do what I often do. Go all over the fretboard…to nowhere in particular. But I do look up and see it’s a Sunday afternoon in the Australian bush.
