Danced to this EP version many times at the "all-nighter" in the middle of the night after the bullring on a Friday or a Saturday night... one of the best songs in the history of all songwriting... God bless Tom Robinson and the co-ordination of this version... seriously influenced mine and many other lives my friend 🔥
I thought I was going insane because I remember the lyrics "I don't think I could stand another ten years of this fighting All this stabbing and wounding - only getting my own back if it's really true then we're all in this together Something's bound to give soon And it sure as hell isn't gonna be me " {which I fucking LOVE }and I'd never hear them till I realized it's on the 12 inch. Just glad I found this.
When this came out it seemed like an absolute lifetime since Tom had had his last hit. Now, amazingly, 39 years later, it seems like only yesterday that it came out! This was such a great 'Tom' era, "Hope And Glory" what an amazing LP! The shows live from a Faulkland Islands petrol station, Alison Limerick on backing vocals begging Ricardo, the 'tame Argie' not to lose that number, and of course ending every show with those humble and modest words "...and here's the song I wrote with Elton!" Memories of having a heated discussion with the people sat next to me whether it really was Prince Charles that they had pointed out to me in the audience at the Dominion Theatre or not; I finally convinced my neighbours that it was, in fact, Peter Hugo when I pointed out to their stubborn arses that their 'Prince Charles' was happily clapping his hands and singing"Glad To Be Gay" in a very 'non-royal' manner! Happy days!!!
new digital version of this and album just released , this song is one of the gems that didnt get the recognition it should have just because of toms sexuality ,which at the the time this was first released was big news . real shame .
