Infectious enthusiasm, great descriptions and no snooty attitudes! Nice! Edit: My edc for the past few years is a Milwaukee Fastback camo drop point; model # 48-22-1990, a great great knife for only $25.
Great to see a knife channel with some variety and 'different' knives for a change, beyond just the usual Spyderco/Civivi/etc. slabs of supersteel and G10, which all kinda look the same after awhile. Nicely done, thx!
Well put I said the same thing it's nice to see somebody review nice that get passed over and never looked at because they're not popular or they're not what everybody else is carrying
the folding razor is basically a mini havalon piranta for slightly cheaper, or approximately the same price depending on where you buy it. the mechanism for how the blades lock in are even identical to havalon's system.
It's nothing special on paper, but I just grabbed a Ruike 661, it's a ridiculously slick little knife and $25. It's got a great swedge and crowned spine, a nice grind, the pivot is plenty smooth, and overall it feels kind of like the ideal inexpensive EDC.
I see they make a SS 661 framelock, as well as a G10 liner lock; thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out. But take a look at the P801-SF. Pretty little knife with blue accents, and a framelock for $29! Mine came razor sharp and fires open. It’s no ZT, but you can’t beat the functionality for the price. Still like my RAT 1 D2 as the best super low budget knife, but the 801 is close.
You always know you can take someone's advice on knives when their hands show plenty of little knicks, cuts, and scratches. They've put the time and the work.
I’ve been following you for a long time I JUST STARTED collecting - have cold steel and CRKT - I will be following I love how there’s others that love blades and blade build/smithing
Just subbed to your channel. Man what I like about your channel you’re not just showing your new and I don’t know, “mainstream” knives that everyone and their dog is reviewing. You’re doing stuff that’s unique smaller companies. I like it.
Samior are the best knives for the money. Get a D2 blade with a titanium handle, $28. Great action and very small. The lock bar is not needed, it is a gentleman's knife.
Hello from the UK. We have crazy knife laws because roadmen in London like shanking each other. If you're looking for an EDC carry option which is legal, technically speaking (you still need a good reason to carry it regardless) is a Whitby Mint. Its amazing for a £25 knife. Its razor sharp, great in the hand and well made. I love whitby knives, I have a load of their less legal knives and this one is arguably better. They're great for their pricepoint.
Love your reviews! That was interesting, not boring, and not snobby! Good points and made me think about elements I wouldn’t normally think about! First time seeing ya but I’m subscribed now.
It's always very interesting to see people who are enthusiastic about anything the details they pay attention to is insane while for others like it's just a knife
Very true, some of the knives on my channel are very special and some can be expensive, and understanding the details can be important to understanding why some knives are more expensive than others or why certain ones can be expensive.
3:37 the general best practice for precision handling a scalpel type blade is with a pen grasp where you have your index finger on the spine of the knife, with your thumb and middle finger on either side of the blade, cheers!
My dads a full on knife guy, and the funniest thing is that he has so many cool knives but his favorite is this tiny little 50 buck folder he uses all the time for work.
i like that the surgical blades are sterile packed in the event you actually need to use such a knife for that purpose. would do well in an emergency kit.
When I was in Culinary school years ago we were taught to always properly shapen your knives. You don't use as much pressure on a sharp knife so if you cut yourself it won't be nearly as deep.
That makes sense. When I've slipped with a blunt knife, the resulting slip was a proper chop, and would've been pretty dangerous had I not managed to move my finger out of the way just in time.
My fav is the Samior #60 pocket scalpel. I also have the #24, shown, less useful. My urban fixed blade is K&G 7” drop point in 4 mm stock, blade only 3”. I feel like that can do almost anything with that! Nice assortment, thanks!
I have that first knife, but it's unbranded with no markings. The store that sold it to me did claim it was titanium and m390 so this video actually helped me figure out what it is!
I'd love to see a strength test of those little replaceable razors, chicken farmer here that has to do alot of fine cutting of rather tough plastic belting in tight spaces often with alot of chickens bouncing around my hands as I try to work. If the blade is tough enough it would be perfect especially with the style of grip I'd actually get enough pressure of the tip to be able to cut properly and with the size it would be small enough to minimize the concern of accidently nicking one of my flappy buddies. Would love to see a good stress test.
Blade steel is not a metric for price. Going from the absolute cheapest 440 to the M390 super steel is negligible in price. Instead of the $2 of 440 the knife would use, it would use $6.50 of M390. So an extra $4-5 is negligible even when you add in the extra $0.20 of increase in production difficulty due to its toughness, especially when a knife gets to around $100. So instead of selling the knife for $80, it has to be $84.50. Big deal. I see knife companies charging $20-50 more for a super steel, and that's nonsense, unless it's a machete that uses a ton of steel.
No more production costs because of "toughness", the same tools are used for the same period of time. Also, again 390 is NOT a "super steel" and anyone who refers to it as such doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.
@@SyndicateOperative Toughness refers to something else, not the hardness of steel but rather how much it can take before a bend break. Nevertheless a WC tool edge will take no more wear from a M390 than a 440 steel. In fact, it would probably take less wear. In fact, spring steel poses a much harder challenge since that has a higher toughness. That will wear out the tool far faster than M390 (which still isn't a "super steel").
Yeah the dapper knife that clips to ur pocket or belt with Keychain it's different now blade is different they must have changed it I'd love the 1 you actually showed in this video
Sorry for commenting on old video, but the steel insert in hinderer XM models is not an overtavel stop. although it might funtion as a overtravel stop, according to the man himself (Rick in a facebook group) it is NOT an overtravel stop. he was quite adamant about it. the LBS have that function...semantics i know.
Awesome video. I love the second knife. I'm a street artist & woodcrafter so I use lots of different knives. Lots of scalpel blades for stencils & sculpting cuts. Carving in wood, too. Love your channel! #KnivesAreInteractiveArt 🎨
That's amazing Heather, and I'm sure if you look around through some of my videos you will find more utility style blades that would work great. The Kershaw Leek comes to mind, it's an assisted knife, but an amazing one
That Samoir is amazing ! It's like a pocket samurai sword ! lol I don't think it needs a steel lock bar, it'll NEVER see heavy use. Isn't SR Sanrenmu ?
im pretty sure that scapel knife doesnt close smooth because its proabably part of a safe feature. If that were to lightly drop on the back of your thumb it would cut into it as to how sharp the scapel is. Now if it's dulled out then maybe not cut into you. But surgical scapels are sharp enough to cut skin when dropped onto or ran along. They're scary sharp!
@2:14, maybe the reason for not having a steel lock bar is to give the blade some forgiveness to keep it from braking, where the blade is so long an thin? Just a thought that crossed my mind. But then again I'd rather the blade break then for it to close up on my fingers.
love the enthusiasm. when everyone laughs at your knife obsession, its nice to see im not the only one.
