So glad that the people in charge of televised production decided to let this race be posted. This will generate interest in auto racing in general.Better late than never, I say.
Their sponsors are getting millions of hits from this race being available like this. Count how many sponsor logos you see in a single minute, multiply that by the length of the race and by the number of views, and you've got MASSIVE branding. They make a LOT of money by posting this stuff here. It's not an act of kindness. They sell our views to their sponsors when they expand their audience. It's just ordinary mass marketing. IMSA always posts their races on RUclips on the Thursday following the race. NBC Sports can make their money from the live coverage (which is appalling quality), and more people watch the race because it just happened. They haven't lost interest. And all those people who paid to watch the races on NBC Sports can see the 25% of the race that they missed because of all the commercial breaks they paid to see. Those of us who see the races in person can go home and watch the whole race, not just the parts that happened in front of our spot along the track. If you're a sponsor, that's what you'd want, a massive expansion of branding hits, and you'd pay handsomely to get it.
@@zwykyziomek2570 it's better than 2 or 3 weeks like they've been doing lol. Dont get me wrong I would prefer same day or day after, but 1 week after is acceptable compared to before.
Woo hoo!!!! Thanks massively. I've watched the first hour or so from the in car views from the #7 Toyota and the two Ferraris (at the start). Mike Conway was flying, and I won't give anything else away.
Glad this race was put on RUclips, it wouldn't make sense not to as if they didn't they wouldn't have as much recognition or viewership. Keep it up WEC, we all can't wait for Le Mans.
Now I have watched all of the 2023 WEC races. Can't wait for Fuji!! Thank you WEC for making this so accessible, I barely even knew it existed until recently, but now I am hooked! You have won me over as a fan and I will be following the series for years to come. Can't wait to see GT3 join next year as well as Lamborghini in the Hypercar class. That will really shake things up!
I love that FIA posts these. As an American I have no regular way to watch, so this is the only way I get to watch the most exciting racing series in the world.
Portimao is such a beautiful track. It goes up and down, up and down just like Spa! There's simply no boring part of the track! I hope WEC stays with Portimao.
Portimao and Spa are currently the best and most exciting tracks in the WEC. Spa has the addition of the often cold and wet Belgium weather whereas Portimao is really really hot and demands good tire management
As someone who will likely never visit the circuit, I have a different view. To me, Portimao looks very samey. When they switch cameras, I can't tell where they are. Aside from turn 5, the front straight, and the final turn, the rest of the track appears featureless when all I can see is the narrow view of the TV camera. My favorite circuits are the ones where each part of the track is instantly recognizable - Spa, Le Mans, Monaco, and here in the US Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen, Sebring, and Road America. I like the feeling that the cars are going somewhere, not just around in a hamster wheel like NASCAR. I love the changes in elevation, but at Portimao I don't get a real sense of those changes on TV other than the commentators talking about them. Martin Haven said in this race that someone was off at the top of the hill. They showed the car, but I couldn't tell where that was until they gave a few more camera angles on the location and maybe when they named the turn. At Spa, Monaco, and those US tracks, the elevation changes seem obvious on the cameras. Is it just a lack of scenic features at Portimao, like going in and out of trees or something? I dunno. I know Portimao can provide amazing races because of its challenging design and layout, but maybe that's only obvious when you're there in person?
5:03:35 ridiculous amount of brake dust from the rotors falling apart. One of the reasons I love endurance racing is watching how the teams adapt and survive when parts of the car start to fail or test their limits.
So i watched about half of this race before tapping out because i needed to sleep. glad that this is only a week later. I'll be up for the Spa race. Thanks again guys
I just finished watching the 6 hours of Portimao , incredible race!. Thank you very much WEC for uploading this video... tomorrow I will start watching Spa! 😎👍
Wadoux was incredible this race! I came to support the Ferrari hypercars but that 83 car stole the show, I was in the tower waving my Ferrari flag 🏎️😃🏁🇵🇹
Exactly what I was waiting for! I've been following all the videos releases, watched Quali and was hoping this was near behind! Thank you so much WEC 2023 :)
Beautiful track great race especially in lmp2 and GT class the hypercar class shows how much has to be learned when introducing such new technology on the scale that they have been during the last year it will be fascinating to see how each of the hypercar teams progress from the point of this race on through the remainder of 2023 and into 2024
Take note WEC; the increased participation in the top class has meant that I’m now watching all races this year from start to finish, unlike last year (Le Mans being the exception). Keep the manufacturers!!
Thank you for uploading! I reallllllly wish they would cover all of the groups instead of being super LMP focused. I may be alone but I prefer the GT cars over the the hyper and lmp cars.
I just wish F1 commentators could come close. You are one of the main reasons (obviously WEC racing which is getting better and better is the other one) why I watch the highlights and when I can full race posts. F1? I have canned it, just simply said I can't put up with the commentators, politics and toddy drivers. WRC is however where I think there is even more potential and where drivers are raciest, skilful and bravest without a doubt plus with constant changes in terrain type making WRC the most comprehensive motor racing there is around.
6:47:05 I agree. Toyota have put in so much effort and deserves respect for winning here but it just seems odd. Toyota didn't make sporty cars for years and years and years and whenever I tell friends/family that Toyota won the latest WEC race they look at me like I made a mistake. "Toyota? Really?". Toyota just do not inspire thoughts of performance, when you hear their name. I know Toyota are making a big push to change their identity with the GR Yari, GR Carolla and Supra but it's gonna take time before I hear the name Toyota and don't think of an old slow Hilux or a little economy car. I hear they are developing a new homologated GT3 car so that will be exciting to see what they come up with. Can't wait for Ferrari and Porche (and next year, Lamborghini) to get into the swing of things and start giving Toyota a run for their money.
thank you for this amazing race but i noticed that even tho the video is 1080 it looks super blocky. my guess is its resolt of pulling from tv. if possible i would love a more clear video but still a great race.
PLEASE don't post any race results in your video titles. I have to work tomorrow so I can't watch this stream live, but I will watch the entire race if the results aren't spoiled before hand.
I have news for the WEC: After the way world endurance racing has been mismanaged over the last several years, driving away every major manufacturer except one, very few of the general public even know it still exists. If you want to attract new fans to the sport, you are going to have to broadcast the races live like F1 does, and advertise to pay the bills. Casuals watch what is on, and that is F1, and it is booming in popularity. No one except the absolute die hard is going to pay your little fee to watch this until they find out whether it is decent racing again or not.

The friendship/rivalry between Ben Keating and Sarah Bovy is awesome to watch. Love both of those teams.
