Thank you Steve. Wonderfully educational as always. I don't know why it is, but the white color of the Cetus just totally dissuades me from getting it.
It all depends what a pilot wants to do with the drone. Since the DroneMask 1+2 on the market, this goggles transform the camera drones into fpv. I have dji drones, wanted just basic fpv, so, for me was obvious to buy a dronemask. Kinda expensive 180€ or so, but I didn't have to change anything or buy other new equipment. For indoor I have tello drones, for outdoors have a spark and a mavic mini1. These drones can't do acro tricks, but fly very stable and reliable.
Interestingly, I began in 2018 and my first FPV kit was an Eachine E013 combo kit with Goggles (yeah, cheap, but they work, still) and very cheap transmitter, and the Eachine E013 drone which I still fly indoors even today.
It is like you read my mind Steve! I was just watching some of your other FPV vids and getting sticker shock when seeing the prices here in New Zealand. This is what I was looking for potentially starting out in the hobby :D
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 After looking at their site off your link and spotting the Aquilla16, I came back and watched your video on that and now find myself seriously considering that 🤑
This is a lot like the way the R/C airplane hobby used to be back in the day. If you built a balsa/monokote kit, you'd have to read the manufacturer's recommendations and figure out how to equip/rig things as needed. It was easy to build the airplane, but building strong, straight, and pretty was a skill. In the 72 MHz systems, you had options for AM, FM, and PCM, which had their price points and pros/cons. Same with glow engines - you could go 2 cycle bushed, 2 cycle ball bearing, or 4 cycle. Electrics weren't really a thing until LiPo batteries hit the market. You could modify anything you wanted, but it was up to you to figure out if it was safe or not. Trainer cables were ok, but you needed to match your buddy's setup (Futaba, JR, etc) so most people just passed the Tx over. It didn't work out well when you were fast, close to the ground, or both. I still have an old Great Planes RV-4 with an OS .46 sitting in the closet that hasn't flown in decades.
Yeah, brushed analog tiny whoops is really the best value for getting into FPV and a hoot to safely fly around your house/yard. Another cheap quasi-fpv option for the DJI camera drone crowd is to fabricate your own "box goggles" using a single fresnel lens and your phone. You essentially end up with an enlarged and immersive view of the DJI app showing the live view of whatever drone you have. This is the only way I fly my OG Mavic pro, if I'm not flying brushless quads and tiny whoops.
Well done Captain!; brilliant overview of the entry level "FPV" hobby; I still have my Maker Fire Armor Blue Bee; its a great fun "around the house" and no wind outside flyer; the little video feed screen never ceases to amaze me regards the quality !!!; need to revisit the VRO2s as they have been out of stock for some time !!!

Captain drone. Hey thanks a lot from your Montana neighbor here I absolutely love your videos they are really helping me narrow down what I’m looking to get into I sure appreciate you. I’ve been researching fpv for around a year now. after getting really good with my cinematic drone videos I’m looking at taking it up the next level to eventually get to building my own higher quality for amazing video footage I’ve logged about 80 hours of fpv simulation I’ve started saving money to look into a first true fpv. I am a pincher but I’m torn. Pavo pico 2? If there’s a 2. Should I start with something that I could put my camera on it ?
Definitely do not begin with a drone that can handle an external camera because such a drone may be too powerful for a beginner. Get any FPV drone that is a Cinewhoop or plain whoop. Such drones have prop guards built in. Practice flying outdoors over grass & life will be good.
@@Vader965 10 year olds are used to video games, like First Person Shooters, so that means they can learn to fly FPV Drones quickly. If your 10 year old will be flying ONLY outdoors get the CETUS PRO. But if it will be INDOORS/OUTDOORS get the AQUILLA16.
Living in New Zealand means you have to do like most people in the world and buy them from the link I posted below the video. The online stores are in China and perfectly safe.
Silly question as ive only just started droning but with a dji 3 😅When you said for the last drone you have to order it with the thumb up or down what exactly do you mean?. Im looking into getting and fpv drone but kinda unsure whether or not just to build one just so I get a better idea of what everything does and is if you catch my drift. Have been told just to get a controller first but there so many and everyone recommends different things.
I've had to return 2 different BetaFPV Aquila 16 drones, both of them started doing this thing where they'd fly great for a minute or two, but sure enough they would descend to the ground, and wouldn't fly higher than a couple inches off the ground 😑 i had 8 batteries, they did this with all 8 batteries, fully charged. The first one lasted a couple weeks before it started happening, sent it back but its replacement didn't make it 2 days before it started doing the same thing. Being so new to the market, i couldn't find anything on line about what was going on with them, or how to fix it. I cleaned everything on them, including the sensor on the bottom for the auto hover feature, i finally just gave up and returned both of them and got my money back. Disappointed doesn't begin to describe how i felt..
Since you were flying in beginner mode where the drone holds the height, it sounds like the barometer needed calibration. I believe on these beginner quads you can go into the menu and have it recalibrate. The good news is that if you wish to get into the true FPV hobby there is no such thing as flight assistance and everything is up to the pilot, so if you are learning to control the height continuously during flight, you’re on your way to becoming a real FPV pilot.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 yeah I did the calibration a few times, still did the same thing. As for fpv flying, that's pretty much what I was thinking, the Aquila 16 got me to understand what it's about and I was just starting to fly in sport mode, not full acro but pretty close so I'm thinking my next FPV purchase, I'll skip the auto hover stuff and go for the real deal and just practice with it outside in the wide open, thanks for the reply, love the channel BTW
You are the one billionth person to ask 😝 In other words your question is not unique & I’d have to be a billionaire to give away something to everyone.
i have a question about the betafpv cetus pro can you help me get the osd from the drone to the cobra s goggles? when i use my goggles i have no flight osd in the goggles is there a way to get it to work
I was jest watching your video on the cetus pro and the cetus x beginner drones and I jest ordered the cetus pro kit . Trying something different because I fly jets and planes so I thought this would be fun to try out hope it goes well lol and keep making videos I love watching them
This is a great start for me. I'm thinking about the CETUS to try out and see if I like it. I do have a question I feel should have been part of the video, however. Are these light enough that they don't require remote IDs? Thanks!
I only have camera drones...may want to try FPV...question: why does the FPV video appear to have such poor quality??!! Also, what happens if u fly out of range with an FPV drone?
You do realize I’m a GPS Camera Drone Pilot and also fly FPV. In the FPV hobby you have 4 types of video (see already it is confusing). Analog video looks terrible on camera but great in front of your eyes. Digital video comes in 3 types and none are compact with the other. Digital video is what a camera drone, like a DJI MAVIC uses, so you get the same image. In the FPV hobby RANGE is determined by your battery and your video signal. As soon as you can’t see where you’re flying, well that is the end of the flight in that direction. FPV pilots know what to do when this happens on any drone.
I’ve got the frysky QS Remote I can’t find any remote receiver’s anymore?? If you can point me the right way. Everyone says now everyone is using Radiolink, RadioMaster Pocket. ?? I get out of fpv one year now it’s all new gear
Have you flown the 3D R robotics it has an AI programming system it's completely autonomous and it has a 15 mile range 7 miles high 8 miles distance it has an hr battery life with a full charge full 360 obstacle avoidance I wonder 🤔 who built it
Fpv drones have always confused me. Regardless of how much research I do I can't find some nicer quads that are past beginner level. I would like to see a vid like this but with many experienced quads. They don't even have to be kits. Just a decent set up for a price worth buying
Hello Steve, I'm so glad you took my advice and went with "grandma approved"😅😂 I see you added it was even grandma approved but it just doesn't have the same ring. Have you talked to FMS about using it in their advertising?😅😂 I love this video. For the last year I've been thinking about getting into FPV but not sure if I should get a kit like this and have to upgrade or get something better and not have to upgrade as quick. If you were buying a beginner kit would it be cetus lite or do you think it's worth it to go full "cetus"? Seems to me that bang for the buck "Cetus" is the way to go. UT is it worth $40us more? As you know living in Canada $40us is closed to $55cad😢
There is also a CETUS PRO with upgraded brushless motors, but it is over $200. For most people not sure about the FPV hobby the CETUS LITE or CETUS scratches the itch.
Unfortunately only the OLD (more than two years) Emax RTF kits are under $300, and they just don’t compare, in quality, to the ones in this vid. EMAX does have good RTF kits but they sell for more than $300.
Nice vid thnx. Sorta a side thought, I find it interesting as all get at that I can not find one video on RUclips talking about, on the camera drones, in the app the "VR" option you can push and it splits the screen then you drop your phone into one of those phone VR headsets that were everywhere and now flood thrift stores. Even my 1st $35 Temu special camera drone(brushless motors even) has this in-app ability and if and ONLY IF you don't get sick in normal computer type VR it's pretty neat in it's way. (mega ch-ch-choppy). Awesome (though possibly CCP subsidized to destroy our economy, bad) that we are at a point where a toy can do this. 4 miniature motors, receiver, case, body, wifi all shipped over the lake, I'm fascinated that at this price this is even a thing. That this can be built and shipped over the lake is kinda nuts, they cannot be more then -00.90 cents profit...like how? Bulk is one thing but damn. You see I grew up lusting after R/C helicopters in the 80's but the price to enter...no. Oh also you have to learn how to fly...a helicopter (which btw is now essentially open-air exposed upside-down whirling lawnmower with faster RPM's). I've actually ordered a few little camera's/bits that people are making videos on who put them on R/C cars. Same vid quality but able to transmit smooth video which is the major afforementioned drag, but even those vids I've yet to see someone try attaching one to one of these cheapo drones? Since you no longer NEED the cameras that come with the Temu job that can go, you could strip a bunch a stuff out that's just "cool" looking plastic shell. I get the maneuvering isn't there but I'm interested in, I'm down for just cruising up the coast. Mine'll stay up in the air for while actually AND go pretty far. Like I say I'm looking forward to tinkerin around with the solder gun and playing around for fun. Anyway rambling. WAY long way of saying I just thought it odd that even up to my bit better Contixo F23 Pro, not one mention of the feature inside the app on any single review. Actually one guy who had really nice reviews of mid range camera drones didn't know what those "two rectangles" meant lol, so I commented on it and he's like "what? no way!" I told him don't expect nothing but try it out, funny.
Yup that was certainly some ramblings 🤣 So I see your problem. It is a simple comprehension problem of defining the differences between the FPV HOBBY (which is what these drones are in) and the GPS CAMERA DRONE HOBBY which includes every drone you mentioned. In simple terms the FPV Hobby is the Advanced drone hobby and the Camera Drone hobby is the beginner drone hobby that even Grandma can fly. Watch this old video of mine explaining the differences: ruclips.net/video/jdIEHpfzlnI/видео.htmlsi=oN8Xv5_Qy8bjlne8
Crazy! The good thing is that these are so small and way under 250 grams that you can fly them in your front lawn if desired. Bylaws are for larger, noisy drones that annoy the public.

Are there any kits out there that have brushless motors? I have an inductrix, and it's OK, heavily into rc cars, so I know the diff between brushes and brushless motors lol. That's why I'm looking for an rtr kit thats brushless! Thanks in advance
Yes, plenty of brushless kits, all OVER $200
Would love to see a video with RTF FPV kits for 200- 300 bucks.
A great video for new fvp want-to-be’s. You are doing a good service for the hobby. I have the Cetus x and love it. Not for indoors, at least for me, but outdoors it is great fun. 👍👍😀
Thanks 👍
same here although im having issues with it after i replaced the frame
Some people like me want to be thrown straight away on deep water so I would love to see your recommendation of three cheapest fully professional racing drone kits :)
Only DJI makes them… DJI FPV kit and DJI AVATA kit.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 OK, so it's even better then. What would be the best and the cheapest together in your opinion, your own kit made of your thoughts... so you choose just drone, you choose just transmitter and why zorro :D, and you choose the googles.. Please think about it.
Good afternoon captain really cool reviews nice drones
How come when right when u say the stick drops it makes the mode 1 noise
Nobody wants a snap back stick especially on the throttle side it's ideal for maneuvering but not throttle control
How are you suppose to grow with it if the throttle snaps back that's literally thee most important part of raceing so if i make a mistake n let go of the throttle it snaps back n drops the drone mid race bad concept
Precision
That's key
My mom said we could buy a drone for 120 dollars and i found one it was cool but it was 250 so i found this vid and we bought the cetus lite and now im happy😊
I wanna know what the cool little quad he held up was.
Hello, is the new Cetus Aquila 16 better than the Pro kit? Thanks.
The CETUS PRO is a bit more tuned for true FPV flying which means it may be more difficult to fly then the AQUILA16 for a beginner.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 thank you, Cap. I am buying it for my 10-year old. which one would you recommend? they are priced about the same here in EU ...
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks! Appreciate your response.
Very informative video, thanks 😊👍
Why don't/can't we use a Cheaper VR Goggles, with our Mobile Phone Mounted inside it, with split screen video for Left and Right Eye?
Because sending video to a cell phone has a long lag time and in the FPV hobby you need almost zero lag
Chapter marker missing for drone #2
Love your reviews . I'm in New Zealand and there is nowhere to buy these things. What do you suggest
God Bless Captain Drone! Very useful info
Glad it was helpful!
Can you recommend an intermediate bundle kit? it's been so long, I have an OG Tiny Hawk in d8. Now with ELRS and HD everything has changed.
I’ll look at making a $200 to $300 FPV kit video. In that price range drones have brushless motors and a bit more power.
I have a question do you have any extra fpv drones you might be able to give away? For a beginner that is :)
You are the one billionth person to ask 😝
In other words your question is not unique & I’d have to be a billionaire to give away something to everyone.
Captain Can I Go For The Cetus Pro , It Has Brushless Motors , Would You Suggest It?
Yes… it is one of my picks for best kits in the $200 to $300 range
The $200-$300 would be nice. Thanks
Lots of good kits to pick from in that price range
i have a question about the betafpv cetus pro can you help me get the osd from the drone to the cobra s goggles? when i use my goggles i have no flight osd in the goggles is there a way to get it to work
Whatever you see in the FPV Goggles that came with the CETUS PRO, you will see in any other ANALOG FOV Goggles.
I see now I had to turn it on lol thanks for the info
Awesome explanation ... thanks for another great video...
Glad you liked it!
If you only can fly DJI drones buy the last drone and when your better (and if you have money) get the DJI Avata 2, its cheaper than the Avata 1.
Guys Tinyhawk 3 plus is what I have it is one of if not the best kits
But… does it sell for under $200 US for the entire kit? Nope.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 but it is great if you want to spend under 300
I was jest watching your video on the cetus pro and the cetus x beginner drones and I jest ordered the cetus pro kit . Trying something different because I fly jets and planes so I thought this would be fun to try out hope it goes well lol and keep making videos I love watching them
Hope you enjoy it!
Betafpv Aquilla 16 is the best in my opinion
Remember, this vid is about kits UNDER $200. The Aquila does not fall in this category. But, I agree, it is excellent.
I got a mavic air 2 today but the gimbal doesn’t work :( disappointing first drone :(
This is a great start for me. I'm thinking about the CETUS to try out and see if I like it. I do have a question I feel should have been part of the video, however. Are these light enough that they don't require remote IDs? Thanks!
Yes
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks!
can you wear glasses under the headset?
Not really, but if you had super small restaurant menu reading glasses, then those would work.
Hey, CD what do you do with all the free drones you get for reviews? Where do you sell them?
I made this video just for you: ruclips.net/video/c95tBIClzDg/видео.htmlsi=WaGeUyUJgArHEz4w
I'm also game for a kit in the $200 - $500 range please.
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/0qaN7sU8V_0/видео.htmlsi=t6lfg69cKwv9aTiu
Have you flown the 3D R robotics it has an AI programming system it's completely autonomous and it has a 15 mile range 7 miles high 8 miles distance it has an hr battery life with a full charge full 360 obstacle avoidance I wonder 🤔 who built it
steve a brilliant video
Thank you very kindly!
Fpv drones have always confused me. Regardless of how much research I do I can't find some nicer quads that are past beginner level. I would like to see a vid like this but with many experienced quads. They don't even have to be kits. Just a decent set up for a price worth buying
You should watch my video series entitled: CAPTAIN DRONE FPV FOR BEGINNERS.
7:04 this is where the drone counting starts
That second grandma was supposed to say grampa.lol
Good advice Steve
Emax tinyhawk brushless under 200 rtf
Yup that was certainly some ramblings 🤣
So I see your problem.
Excellent - thanks
SUPER STUFF, CHEERS.
pretty cool drones all thats missing now is where you can fly drones in Toronto hahaha by-laws are way too restrictive of rc toys
Crazy! The good thing is that these are so small and way under 250 grams that you can fly them in your front lawn if desired. Bylaws are for larger, noisy drones that annoy the public.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 super cool hahaha now i wanna get some tiny drones hahaha
02:10 Ken Heron's reference? 😂😂
Ken certain likes to fly around unsuspecting humans.
What I would do with one of those is take the camera out and put it on a Rc plane!
Many do just that, or put them on RC cars, but at 25mw you can’t fly/drive the plane or RC plane too far away.
Hey Cap. Can you tell us why you make these videos when you hardly get nothing and don't charge? I love your vids and have bought most of my drones from your reviews. Thanks in advance.
I love the hobby. Have lots of friends in the RC hobby and we have a blast, so I simply share my joy of the hobby.
Thanks Steve a very interesting subject where’s the beard gone it suited you.
It went away a few vids ago (I showed it gone in a vid). But it may return for the winter months.
Can I have one you don't want? I'm learning all about drones from you! Thank you!
