Born in Akron lived on Dayton Street in North Hill area until I was Six then we moved to Stow. Graduated in 72 then I moved to Oklahoma to go to school and I’m still here. Both my sisters still live in the area (Akron and Doylestown). Lots of relatives in N/E Ohio. I’ve been gone for 52 years but it will always be home.
I ❤ Akron, my hometown. Surprised more Akron natives have not informed you about all the reasons we still ❤️Akron. It was the most wonderful place to grow up. Your opinion is just that, your opinion. Turned off the sound and enjoyed seeing the city I love so much. Thanks for showing Akron.
Many don't know that Akron Ohio was the birth place of Alcoholics Anonymous. Every year in June they have founders day at Akron University and people from all over the world attend.
Thank you, for driving through Akron, Oh. I lived off Copley Rd. during the 70's. It has changed a lot, but I still have friends their and enjoyed seeing what it looks like today.
This old head told me back in the 60s and 80s. It was the white boys on the hilltop. The Copley Rd area that was beating up the black people. He told me they were afraid to go down Copley Rd now is this true 😂😂?
My hometown. Ohio is like a mini-America (map shape and culture). 1950s & 60s, didn't get more American than Ohio. (But then I'm biased ;-) We moved west when I was 12. I'm in L.A. now but Akron will always be special. Loved LAWSONS chipped-chopped ham, and Snyders potato chips.
27:00 I can atest that people from ohio are very difficult to work with. Absolutely miserable people. I had to quit quite a few jobs mainly because of the co workers. Wasn't worth the added stress.
In my young adult years I moved out to Youngstown ohio and I will agree with you akron is 10.times better looking than Youngstown. It's like 80% of Youngstown is completely run to the ground which is said by back.in the 50s and 60s that city was absolutely beautiful
@8:45 the area you stopped to Google an area where to go is called summit lake(lakeshore blvd) its in the southwest area of akron. It's considered a poor neighborhood. I grew up in this area myself
11:37 AJ's drive thru is a drive thru Convenient store/ A drive thru bodega. Not to lazy when it's a brisk 20°f outside snowing 😂😂 trust me it's a nice touch when it's pouring rain or snowing. Knowing your from The south you'd hate our winters
21:30 akron of course was the rubber capital of the world back then so that why we have so much structures and so many highways. Our minimum wage is $10.50 (goes up to $10.70 next year) avg rent is $1,100 in akron
4:00.. it's the old Firestone building with Berger Iron next door (attached to it)... in the 80's they were still here..Goodyear is on the East side 25:00... oh buddy..you've only been in the bad sides 😅
@28:05 the panhandling is absolutely ridiculous in akron. Just out of control. So akron used to make the panhandling by a yearly permit (think it was $20)to allow them to panhandle and if they got caught without a permit they got a ticket. Now akron doesn't require panhandling to have a permit now so they are legit every where
akron might be run down but we got a lot of hard workers. not taking no shit from a middle aged couple that argued half the time making money off some youtube videos 😂😂😂
A cute little town y'all should check out during the summer time is Chesterton & Porter Indiana. Also the good parts of Michigan City IN and along the lake going east. It will lead you to New Buffalo Michigan follow the red arrow highway! It's beautiful. Chesterton and Porter IN is right on the top of lake Michigan. Location is about an hour east of Chicago IL.
@17:38 😂😂 you saying why do people live in abandoned houses who not just get a better houses. There's two answers if the house is truly abandoned the only people living in them are homeless people or people with math problems and some of the house thar are up kept look abandoned but actually aren't blame the slum lords. On a good. A house for rent in that area is probably $800 ish (mainly because they are larger homes aka more rooms someone who might have 4+ kids)
Right here @26:13 where you was saying the guy walking in the street was doing it on purpose. The building to the left of you Portage Path behavioral (is a Facility for people who suffer from mental illnesses, drug recovery, and those types of problems) so need these to say these area gets some odd characters. So yeah, some of these people just don't give a f .
😂😂 downtown can become complicated a street that starts off one way needs up being a two way like 5 blocks down ....so if your not from the area it seems strange ta ya.
Akron once the rubber capital now the math capitol. In all seriousness Akron has rich history it was one of the first cities in the Mid west with a Mafia presence in the 20th century called The Black Hand. Akron has had a wild past even pre prohibition times lots of bootleggers, rum runners along with cop slayings all through the city. It was also the first city in the U.S with a police wagon. There are simply too many pioneer things to mention that came from Akron.
