- The New Kids On The Block became the first major recording act to perform at halftime of the Super Bowl, singing during the intermission of Super Bowl XXV, which the New York Giants won, beating the Buffalo Bills, 20-19, at Tampa Stadium.

No way! The super bowl half-time show with famous musical acts actually started with NKOTB over 30 years ago? That's definitely one of their great achievements that we forget about.
I mean it didn’t start with them - MJ was the first one to ever do the half time show.

We didn't forget because it was an air during halftime it was interrupted by a special report from the war in Iraq so unless you watch it after the Super Bowl or you're watching it right now that's the only way you can possibly remember

I can't. This is from my day and I'm crying so hard. I'm not even joking. I'm 43 now. I can't even begin to tell you how insanely popular NKOTB was at that time and second, can we all just give about 100 standing ovations to *each* kid performing there? They all really killed it! Not one of them messed up! Not even the young ones and you could tell all the kids were so into it and loved being there and were so happy! WOW!
43 here too. Was turning 11 in march of this year. I so miss these days!! NKOTB were n the best. Joey was my fav!!
I've always wondered what their mania era was like because it was pre-internet so I can only imagine it was a mind-blowing time. There have been several successful boybands but only a small percentage of them get this kind of worldwide phenomenon level!
I’m 41 and it was everywhere. I wanted a poster so bad, all my friends had NKOTB bed spreads and curtains! It was madness.

WOWWWW what a show, fast forward 30 years later and ive have even to this day seen a show even half this impressive. The exhibits, kid participation, floats, man this is crazy.

The kids were so happy the group was on field you can tell they were hold back to keep from running to them. And when they starting singing the kids were even more excited they were jumping up and down, Awesome show. 😃

ABC didn't actually air the halftime show that year, they cut away to special coverage of the gulf war. Some ABC stations aired the halftime show after the game was over, which I guess is where this recording comes from

I wouldn’t put this in the top best halftime shows, but having the Disney characters made me like it a lot more than I should. Especially when you factor in this wasn’t shown until after the game due to coverage about the Gulf War.
IDK maybe it’s because I always liked anything Disney related LOL

You’re right! In fact ... CBS, which was broadcasting that Super Bowl, cut away to a special live report anchored by Dan Rather about the war at halftime. The New Kids’ performance was taped live and then shown AFTER the conclusion of the game!

Yep, and only the people that were actually there, got to see it in real actual live time. President Bush also made an announcement at that time.
Some of the New Kids didn't even want to perform with the Disney theme, and they were glad that it went someone unnoticed. They just would have preferred a more suitable setting. They weren't disrespectful about it though.

This was actually a good Super Bowl from the beginning -of the national anthem sang by Whitney Houston, the all time best performance, of the national anthem ever sung anywhere, even to this day. You could tell that it was saying with support and love and a victorious, proud, battle cry going into the war.
