Daryl’s an absolute LEGEND… his modesty allied to his stoicism & not a bad word for anyone 🫶👊💥 Now is not a good time to be unwell in the UK, I’m so happy for him & his dearest that he’s made it to you guys in the studio where he can share it with us all ❤
Watched this in hospital recovering from leg surgery. Its comforting to see someone else has gone through it and are on the other side. You're a legend Daryl
@TheRideCompanion is quickly becoming one of my favourite mtb podcasts. Props to Daryl for sharing his story 👏 Keep it up lads, loving what your doing 👍🏻
Got me emotional. Felt like it's my exact story being (better) told - broken femur, 3.5 hr surgery, no blood infusion, knocked out trying to wee, all of it basically, to the word. So true about having to push and being proactive. Still halfway through rehab, the mental game is key. Thanks for sharing
Sorry to hear there’s more cases like this out there mate. Hopefully Daryl is giving you an extra dose of motivation. Keep up the recovery and you’ll be back at it in no time!!
I broke my neck racing MX in 2003 and I was dealing with the same sort of why is this happening and what did I do wrong? Then one day I was in a cab and I was talking about it all and he paused and said "well, the human body is designed to go 7km/h and not bump into anything" and it was one of those truth bombs that only a cabbie can deliver haha and it completely cleared my head..
Best Pod you’ve ever done. Big props to all three of you. Writing this with 8 ribs fractured and clavicle bust at BPW last week and, yes, I was on that bit of Kermit from the shops to the uplift: not going fast and can’t remember how it happened🙄 Last time I did this (other side), much the same story. I ride horses too and a # pelvis (stable, so not as bad as it sounds) happened on a trivial tootle on a back road. Just a very big thank you: I feel less of an idiot than I did 30 minutes ago 😊
Omg, I remember seeing that, way worse seeing follow cam than pov at the time. (Thanks for not showing that) Couldn’t even slow mo practice the perfect wack like that. Big up Matt for his supportive composure (first time seeing him in a not ideal situation). It happens even in my work… “oh, i’ll just do this quick “ boom world of hurt. All the best
And yet we all go again, glad everything worked out for Daryl ! Had my first injuries from mtb a couple weeks ago since starting last year, crashed on the sharkfin jump on the MSA WC track near the top (more of a slow tech rider, not quite enough speed, pulled a bit, landed a little shaky and veered off to the right off the track, OTB'ed into the boulder field hiding in the long grass). Fractured collarbone, scapula, few ribs including one that punctured my lung. Somehow didnt need surgery but needed a thorax drain. Despite that cant wait to get back on the bike :)
Best of luck with the recovery. I can fully relate. I am an ex Mountain biker unfortunately had a crash in 2013 and broke my 4th and 5th vertebrae in my neck. I am now a quadriplegic and use a electric wheelchair. Silver lining is I got to do my rehab in the same hospital as Martyn Ashton. Stay strong and get back at it🤝💪👌
Cheers guys. The most important thing is we are still alive and breathing not quite kicking haha but we live to fight another day. I now live my mountain biking days through the content of Matt Jones Pilgrim and bren dog. Hope to see you back shredding on the Channel soon🤙
Lucky he moved his head out the way or it could have been worse. MASSIVE healing vibes for DB, been following his recovery and stoked he’s back on a bike 🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌎
I really feel bad for Daryl. Its unpleasant hurting yourself. But I think it’s necessary for young guys starting to ride to see the reality of crashes. Too often you see great riders making it look easy and walking away from crashes. I’ve seen some end up disabled from normal sized jumps. Daryl gave me grief for posting videos of crashes. Said no one wants to see that shit. I think the progression of the sport means more risks and bigger jumps at higher speed. It’s losing its fun.

@@TheRideCompanion Thanks: will do 🤙🏼
Dudes got such a good mindset, keep hammering man
Keep hammering. Best quote ever.
Always remember, stunt riding is dangerous. Glad you're still here. Some aren't.

Jesus, he hit that tree hard. Glad he’s ok 🤙🏻
HARD
Sounds like the staff were😮 rubbish
I was so shocked it was Daryl that crashed, he’s usually a very in control rider.
Yeah, crazy to think really. Happens to the best of um!
Penthrox. Great stuff, we use it in hospital as needed and it's epic
