I once drove a restored XKE convertible a few miles, and what you said about 6 cylinder engines having the best sound is totally correct. The Jag had just been rebuilt, and all the power was there- no oil leaks, no Lucas gremlins, just smooth torque everywhere.

I have the 2002 M roadster version and love it but wish I had the coupe like this and it is so clean. I remember when mine looked that good over 17 years ago almost 18 lol.

I wish they had a ‘kit’ to put the coupe rear and top on a roadster. I have the M roadster and it’s been fun but now 18 years later I want the coupe but I don’t want to sell mine but modify it.

Very interesting car. Looks like BMW used the Volvo 1800ES as inspiration. They could certainly have done worse. This makes me wonder what would happen if you took a Volvo 1800 ES and shoehorned in the 3 litre straight 6 from a Volvo 960. Could be a lot of fun, too.
