Hi and thanks. I use cheap Decoraters PVA from B&Q to stick the cork to the Styrofoam. To stick the track to the cork I use Febond, another PVA brand, which is more expensive but dries slightly flexible. .........................John
@@canalsidingsmodelrailway3411 I have covered my plywood baseboard completely with 3 mm cork stuck down with Copydex. Another 3 mm strip goes on top for the track. Hopefully no noise! Cheers. Pete
@@pgcroc8484 Ah! The noise question. There are lots of things that contribute to noise but in my experience you will not know how much there is until it's too late to fix it! My cork is 4mm and it's on 50mm styrofoam. The track is layed and ballasted with a flexible PVA. Is it noisey? Very!. In fact it is louder than the old part of the layout which is 5mm cork on 9mm MDF with 2x1 bracing and pinned track ballasted with cheap PVA! Mineral ballast is probably louder than softer types. Large baseboards seem louder than small ones. And of course train speed plays a big part. A silent system seems to be the Holy Grail. ..................John
@@canalsidingsmodelrailway3411 John, after reading about noise on many forums it seems that the noise is transmitted through the ballast, (especially ballast stuck down with PVA). Therefore I thought if I covered the whole of the baseboard with cork, then stuck the cork track underlay to the 'baseboard cork' with Copydex it may be quieter. The ballast will not touch the plywood. This is my theory! Never built a layout before. As the track is not finished no ballast has been applied. Time will tell. Cheers. Pete
👍
Thanks Dave. ........................John
Good video John. What glue are you using to stick down the cork?

@@pgcroc8484 I wish you well Pete. I will be interested to know how it turns out. ....................John
