    Wanted to post an update on this pedal. About a year ago it died on me. Did a hunt for something better out there, and came up empty. Sent the Mosaic to Digitech to fix it which cost me $100. I'd do it again too. It's amazing to me that there are a million pedal manufacturers out there, but only Digitech makes a good sounding 12 string effect pedal!!! Hard to believe. I recently bought a POG, and it's cool for a different application, but it does not do the 12 string chord thing well at all. If you need a pedal to get some 12 string sounds at a gig, I still haven't found anything better than the Mosaic. Just wanted to post this update. Cheers mates! Dan from Connecticut...New England.....U.S.A. :)

      It’s still the only 12 string pedal. It’s a one trick pony, but it’s the best one. Like you say, I don’t know why no one else has duplicated this. I’d expect Joyo to take a stab at it, or another China manufactured pedal.

    Wow! I was somewhat worried that Digitech would have come out with a newer version of this pedal by now. But no. I guess there's not much to improve on! I'm still using this pedal pretty much every day and loving it! It simply sounds great. They got this one right! All the best. Dan

    GREAT demo! The suggestions on pedal order is very helpful, too. More like this? Hope so. Thanks so much for posting.
    UPDATE 2 YEARS AFTER SEEING THIS DEMO!
    - Purchased the Mosaic... based largely on this phenom video.
    - PERFECT for Hotel Cali, Wish You Were Here, songs by T Petty, etc. etc.
    - Really love this pedal!

    Thanks for the great video. I really enjoyed the fact that you tried it with different effects and showed more sides of the pedal than just "yep, it's kinda like a 12-string but not."
    I think there's a lot of potential to this pedal to experiment with, like using AC-3 Acoustic simulator, some nice Reverb, maybe even two different ones, delay, etc. creating some unique and rich soundscapes.
    Maybe it's marketed as a 12-string replacement because marketing decided that it will sell the pedal better, but really, this is just a unique chorus pedal that does one kind of effect but does it really well. I wonder if engineers at Digitech sat down and wanted to come up with a 12-string effect from the start, or they just tried to create a cool vintage sounding octave/chorus hybrid of sorts. . .
    Yep, I bought mine and can't wait to try it!!

      @@stratodan27 Glad to hear you still enjoy it! I had mine for about a week, I stopped playing heavy stuff mostly and crave clean tones day and night. Though it sounds great with heavy OD in combination with light reverb when fast picking. Adds that layer of harmony, an additional stream of sound, without any noticeable noise or cracking. So when I am about to go tremolo -- I turn it on -- and then off for rhythm-type work, as it dampens low-end a bit (plus doesn't sound that great for distorted chords). Something I didn't expect at all for it to work with OD in certain scenarios!! Pretty cool, really adds originality. Take Care!

    No, you're right!!!! The Tone Press absolutely adds that little something that the Mosaic was lacking!!!!!!!!! With a brighter guitar, that might help the whole thing even more and I'm a BIG fan of Gretsch!

      In my opinion, it's the only pedal out there for a 12 string guitar effect. I've scoured the Earth looking for something better. The Mosaic is still the best pedal out there. My pedal died on me about a year ago. I think I had it for about 7 years before it died. So about a year ago I went on the hunt for another 12 string guitar effect pedal...and in the end, there is nothing out there better than the Mosaic. I actually sent my pedal to Digitech to get it fixed. Cost me about $100. If I get another 7 years out of it, I'll be happy. One of my gigs, is playing in a Beatles tribute band, so this pedal is crucial for me. Thanks for checking out the vid. Cheers!

      @@stratodan27 Thank you for the follow-up. I tried some others like custom settings in a TC sub and up and none produce the sound this pedal can with such little effort. There is definitely a sweet spot, but easy enough to setup. I bought one myself and it is now the one pedal I use when I don't want to haul the 12 string along. I like to roll off the tone knob to reduce the "organ" sound of it which many octave pedals tend to drive sound wise a bit too much. Rolling that off gets it back to a more natural string attack and sustain feeling on the octave up and tames the B and E high octaves more like a true 12 string. The organ sound really comes out in the sustain as you hold the note. Again I roll off the tone a bit more than you to tame that. Your use of the Tone Press does add to the overall tone and reaction of the Mosaic.

    Great review of this superb pedal I already own. I bought it specifically because I play a Rick 330 6 string... It works well with many different guitars in fact. I often use it as an octave effect with my mim Hendrix Strat ✌😉🎸

    There is no upper octave on the high E and B strings on a 12-string guitar -- the strings are just doubled. That's (apparently) what this pedal is doing, unlike a run-of-the-mill octave pedal.

    • @stratodan27
      @stratodan27  8 лет назад +2

      Right - unlike the Mosaic, there is no upper octave on the high E and B strings on a 12 string guitar...those strings are just doubled as you said. I talk about that in the video. The Mosaic adds an upper octave to all strings, but as I said in the video, it's not a deal breaker for me because fortunately, you can't hear the upper octave on the high E and B strings as prominently as you can with the other, bigger strings. And what you do hear on those upper strings still sounds pretty good - not weird - at least to my ears. It's really a personal thing and whether or not it sounds good to you.
      For recording purposes, I'd grab a real 12 string. But for live work when you don't want to switch guitars, the Mosaic is tough to beat.

    • @bananaforscale9687
      @bananaforscale9687 8 лет назад

      I thought the Mosaic didn't add the upper octave on those two high strings. I'm not sure I'm hearing it in your demo. If it does, then I suppose there isn't much to differentiate this pedal from the dozens of octave-up pedals already on the market, especially for the price. If it's not actually adding the upper octave, well, that's pretty cool and one wonders how they did it.

      +Banana for Scale Just got one off Craigslist the other day. It's the best octave pedal for strumming chords. Blends well when you need it to, but single notes stand out. It's really cool.

      I Love the way it shows each of the strings characteristics...than what a normal 12-string does, it gets washed out usually when you have a bad authentic 12 string, maybe because they are not tuned with the 12's i have heard......

    I play in a Beatles tribute act, and am considering getting the Mosaic. This video showed me what all other Mosaic reviews I've seen have been lacking...a clear demonstration of this pedal's suitability for Beatles songs. I needed to hear EXACTLY what it sounded like when a Gretsch Country Gentleman was plugged into the Mosaic and then a skilled player played Beatles tunes. My prayers have been answered. Well done, sir. Off topic, you mentioned on Fender Forum that you use the Gretsch for everything from Please Please Me to Let It Be. What brand and gauge strings do you find most workable on the Gretsch for all those different albums?

    • @stratodan27
      @stratodan27  5 лет назад

      Thanks Jason! Glad you liked the video. Yeah, I also play in a Beatles tribute band called Beatles Forever (Hartford, CT area). I can't remember if I mentioned that in the video or not? This pedal is still a mainstay on my board. If I could only have 2 pedals for the Beatle band gig it would be my Xotic RC Booster and the Mosaic! No question. So for my Gretsch Country Classic I use D'Addario nickel wound strings. I actually use sort of a hybrid gauge that works well for me. Since I have to play lots of leads where I need to bend the high strings, a normal set of 11's was too heavy for me on the top. (I normally play 9's on my Strats!) We play stuff like Got To Get You Into My Life where they let me rip at the end and solo over the horn parts, so there's a fair amount of string bending going on. :) The 11's were too much of a struggle for me to bend the higher strings for solos. So I then I tried a set of D'Addario nickel wound 10's, but I didn't like the lighter bass strings (A & E). So then I tried using the top 4 strings from the 10 set, and the bottom 2 strings from the 11 set.......and YES! That did the trick all the way around for me! So I buy packages of D'Addario nickel wound 10's and only use the top 4 strings (10, 13, 17, 26) and then I buy individual single strings of D'Addario nickel wound 38 and 49 for the A and low E strings. In a pinch, a set of 11's would work ok for me, but I really like this hybrid set that I've been using for years now. Works great for me on my Gretsch! Not the cheapest solution, but hey what's a few dollars in the big picture? Take care my Beatle Brother! Dan

      Oh yeah, and my biggest regret with this video is that I didn't record any video of me playing. In hindsight, that would have been much more interesting than staring at my pedal board. Live and learn. :)

      @jasonhill3514 5 лет назад

      @@stratodan27 Ah, so you've had a similar experience in feeling that the bottom strings were a bit too light. I'm a big fan of Elixirs, specifically the Nanoweb Light (10, 13, 17, 26, 36, 46), but I've been considering switching to their Light/Heavy set (10, 13, 17, 32, 42, 52). I'll see how it goes. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

    I enjoyed your excellent video on the Mosaic. Very nice guitar playing also. I have a Mosaic one my current pedal board in which I have placed a Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone compressor before the Mosaic, and a Boss BC-2 Combo Drive (to replicate a Vox amp) after it. It's a great combination. At the very end of my chain, I've placed a Keeley 30MS Double Tracker set on the "Abbey" setting to replicate the Abbey road studio settings. Great for Beatles, Byrds, R.E.M., Tom Petty & Smithereens.

      +Ron Choma, Sr. Hi Ron. Thanks for the comments. Yes, the Mosaic is a great pedal and it "plays well" with others on my board. Ya a compressor or any kind of clean boost type pedal works very well before the Mosaic. I've found a clean boost pedal also works well after the Mosaic. And like you, I put my low gain dirt pedals, modulation, delay, and reverb pedals at the end of the chain. The Mosaic allows me to play 12 string music, without lugging a 12 string to my gigs.Glad you liked the video! Dan

    Whoa, I hear another higher note that actually rings out when you turned both to 3/4, it is your amp that is making the upper octaves ring out bad.....making the sounds...sound weird, and i hear it just the same with this vid though....

    How does this sound when used in combination with a chorus pedal?

    • @stratodan27
      @stratodan27  8 лет назад +1

      Hmmm. I've honestly never tried that. Might be too "over the top" for anything I normally play. I do use a chorus pedal a little bit during our shows for certain songs, but never use both the chorus pedal and the Mosaic at the same time. Never hurts to try though...

      Robert Evans My old DOD stereo chorus broke ...but a £30 Joyo Flanger is a great effect I sometimes use after the Mosaic and you can get some very subtle chorus and also some very extreme "synthy" sounds.

      Hey Chris. By mistake I believe I left the pickup selector on the bridge pickup for the entire video. I forgot to change to the other pups. The neck pup on that Country Classic delivers the best sounds. But I play in a Beatles tribute band so most of the stuff I play (especially w the 12 string pedal) is very trebly!

I've been using it for about a year and a half now and I'm still digging it. No issues. Just played a Beatles show last week in front of 5k people.
