OMG!!!OMG!!! Do you have ANY idea how wonderful this little car will be for folks like me? I have mobility and exhaustion issues, so I have such a hard time getting anything born. This little jewel would get me safely around to most of my errands, without causing me pain or exhaustion. The fact that this vehicle will profoundly reduce the amount of smog in cities is a huge bonus. I very much look forward to this idea rolling out in big cities.
Sandra Nelson Ive got the same mobility and chronic pain problem. Little cars like this already exist. There is even a mini (cabrio)hummer. But unfortunately they're very expensive
anfr Proliferation leads to a drop in price! Even if I could just rent one once or twice a week for a couple of hours it would make a huge difference. We both have to decide where we spend our energy, don't we?
I used to have an Isetta in the 60s and I loved it, I would definitely buy one of theses if It goes into production, I think that its biggest problem will be cost, but if they can keep the cost down so that the average person can afford it, then I think that they have a winner here...👍🏻
I absolutely love everything about this car!!! The mirrors in the headlight pods (headlight pods in general are great), the little ragtop (it almost blew open when you close the door), and you put in flannel
Iso Isetta, In 1954, Iso entered several Isettas in the legendary Mille Miglia where they took the top three spots in the economy classification. The production of this epic fuel efficiency (3l/100km or 0.79 us gallon/ 62 miles) micro-car began around 1953, in Bresso, Italy in the Isotta Fraschini plants.
@@davidlazarus67 I don't see how they get their numbers ... generally there are efficiency losses every time power is converted. Only advantage I see is that the pollution of the power station isn't generally in your neighborhood.
Ahh, I love the Isetta design; this looks really sweet. I hope the price is reasonable and it comes to the U.S. This would be a great grocery-getter and commuter car for me.
New pricing supposedly starts at 12k€. I doubt it´d come to the states honestly, the people in generaly seem just way too biased against small cars like this.
@@avdcrx5441 Actually I think it would be pretty nice for a fat person. The whole front is just one big door, so there is no problem getting in/out and if you could adjust the steering wheel to the center of seat it would be perfect for one large driver :)
It's a Go-go-mobile! I loved those things. If you're old enough you remember them from American Bandstand, and a little younger you'll remember Steve Urkel's car from Family Matters. As a teenager I badly wanted one!
or "100 regrets" in the event of a car accident... You get hit... You can't open the car door... You can't escape through an open window... If you live on 10 acres of land, then this would be the perfect car to drive around on your safe property.
This is great - and perfect Back to the Future - the guys who designed microcars in the 50s were great experimenters - the Isetta being one of the most successful. Paired up with Bosch - this has to be a winner!
This is a very smart design. I love how he said he was going to make it simple and take out all the unnecessary stuff. These cars also have a lot less mass. Which is good because they do less damage in accidents, but bad when they get hit. But as driverless automation starts to hit this smaller simpler design maybe the new Uber or cab of the future.
Love it, it's a shame we'll probably never see one here in the US. I wish more people would make cars like this, barebones utilitarian. It's JUST a car. Love it. lol
The US has more than enough "fossil" fuel better to apply this with a series hybrid like a miniature electromotive. Let someone else do the godawful batteries...as in landfill water table toxin for your grandchildren.
Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing Microlino. These little gems will be perfect for UK. I hope Wim can get investments to build and market them in EU/UK and change the colour of our cityscape. Good luck
What is really amazing is that 70 years on this design is still appropriate. Initially, it was a cheap way to provide mobility & now it's a cheap way to save the planet. Please do something about the mirrors/headlights. I can see them getting knocked off by vandals or in parking lots.
i gave my fisker karma away for a tesla model S. now i‘m waiting for my microlino as a second „car“. it feels great to be a part of the electric revolution ❤️
Love it but the plug needs a cover otherwise road salt would corrode it very quickly and there should be the option of also having a say a Tesla, Leaf or Volt plug so you could take advantage of available public charging stations. Maybe mold a phone holder / Qi charger and bluetooth speakers and microphone as an accessory. A small tow hook and cable connectors for a extended battery pack or generator trailer would be good for long trips.
I love it . Was my first car a learn to drive a long time ago here in Brazil . I have 74 years old . Fantastic idea Beni from Brazil.. I have think in Brazil will have good sales . Regards
This is wonderful! They should really put them in production. It's a cute car like the old Isettas. I'll take one any day. Just hope that the availability would increase and the price would go lower. But I love this.
I'd bet on this if I had money. He has all the right ideas. As he said two or three times 'we are not over-engineering it with things it does not need.' It's a minimalist's tool and follows the same way of thinking that leads to people like me using a 150cc scooter to get to work, which is about 45 kilometres from home. The people who decry it as being dangerous, if they are sincere, should also decry all two-wheeled machines and the like. Great idea. Great design. Coming from a 'normal' car, you'd likely find this to be extremely basic. Coming from a scooter, though, people like me would find this to be quite a luxury - as I do when I use my wife's car. I use a scooter or big bike all year round, and in winter this beats the shit out of any bike IF IT'S CHEAP ENOUGH. And there lies the point, as he also mentioned. I love it.

After he plugged it in I was waiting for charge level indicator lights on those side mirrors to come on hmm.. Good job. Nice prototype. I hope you make it to completion and market. I wish you all the very best. I would like to own one too.
I always have to smile when I see an old Isetta somewhere... And when he translated the german term Knutschkugel for it "hugging", he was prettifying it. It is more related to "Making out"
Just my two cents on the design.. Loose those big bulbous headlights and have some small but bright streamlined mirrors/indicator units instead. The main headlights could be small inset LED affairs on the main door. The back end looks high, could it not be lowered to cover the rear wheels a little more, the old BMW seems to do that. Add in a few little flairs unique to the retro-esque nature to add even more to the dinky-cute factor and it's appeal would be heightened on its aesthetic appeal alone.
Very exciting. I wish you every success. I always admired the basic design of the Isetta even though it lacked a suitable power plant, even for the day. We raise children by taking the best from the past and the present and instilling it in them, or at least attempting to. Why wouldn't the same concept work with transportation?
Hopefully, forward thinking governments will attempt to incentivise the use of these types of vehicles by taxing less and maybe even special infrastructure like EV-only traffic lanes to reduce risk for people in small fragile vehicle like this. Wonderful design. And a wonderful vision for the future.
